Microsoft have substantiated that the upcoming Zune HD touchscreen PMP will use NVIDIA’s high-definition capable Tegra chipset. Official Zune Insider podcast, product team member and show host Matt Akers disclosed that the rumors about the use of Tegra’s chipset were true and described the Zune HD with the NVIDIA chipset as “like a mini laptop in your hand.”

Akers also shared that there is “much better battery life” and graphics acceleration, both advantages of Tegra by NVIDIA. The chipset offers 1080p video output thru an HDMI port, together with multiple power-saving features and hardware graphics acceleration. We’ll have to wait until September, when the Microsoft Zune HD is rumored to launch.
