We’ve read numerous reports about various carriers going out of iPhones around the globe. Most of them come from the USA where lots of AT&T stores are waiting for new Apple shipments to arrive. Don’t be surprised if AT&T personnel will greet you this way:
Welcome to the new AT&T, we’re currently out of iPhones, how can I help you?
A lot of AT&T stores ran out of both 8GB and 16GB versions and they are desperately waiting for new ones to come in. Wonder what other carriers are doing this time of year? I mean if they don’t have busy Apple days like the ones we’ve just witnessed.
If you are waiting for AT&T to replenish store then why not simply order one. Pay for it and you will be contacted when your iPhone arrives. It will take between 10 to 21 to get one at this moment.
Apple stores on the other hand might still have enough phones to go around. But not everybody is that lucky to have an big Apple store just around the corner after a 10 minutes drive. There more than 1,000 AT&T
stores and about 188 Apple stores to choose from.
Apple has to deal with this iPhone shortage problem and find a way to produce more handsets and restock all stores faster. Let’s not forget the 3G iPhone is supposed to come out in 70 countries by the end of the year. And similar shortage reports are coming in from other countries too: Germany, New Zealand, and the list can go on…

One Response for "Worldwide 3G iPhone Outage"
June 18, 2009: iPhone 3G and Edge network went completely down at approx 1:00 AM EST. I called AT&T Support first thing this morning (approx 9am EST) and they reported being UNAWARE of any issues but would call me back shortly after investigating. I received a follow-up call at approx 10:30am EST and the support tech admitted to a “WIDE AREA OUTAGE reaching all over Northern Florida”.
There is much suspicion amongst iPhone 3G users that AT&T purposefully disengaged service to allow greater service response from iPhone 3GS users … thereby showing off their new “2x faster” network.
Interestingly, my fellow colleagues who are also on AT&T’s 3G network … using a non-iPhone device … still have uninterrupted 3G service all the while.
What say you?
