WiPower charging mat is wireless power, againBy Mark Rollins - 12/15/2009 2:44:44 PM |
I’ve seen wireless chargers like the Powermat before. These devices allow the user the opportunity to simply lay their wireless devices on a charging pad instead of attaching a charging cord. I believe that Duracell also has similar model.
I suppose what makes the WiPower different is that “it can power up to four devices at once, regardless of their position”. I’m not sure what that means, but most of the aforementioned wireless chargers usually require an adapter in order to work. For example, the Powermat has a Powercube that you have to plug in your device, or a special attachment for the battery. If the WiPower can do what my source says it can, then that Powermat and Duracell wireless chargers will be as archaic as rotary phones.
Sadly, this tech is only available to “manufacturers who are looking to integrate the technology and the built-in commercial applications like cafe tables, counter tops or desks in school libraries”. There is no word about it being available in the typical consumer’s home.
