18 Jan 09 Windows 7 Beta Beats Vista at SSD Performance

We haven’t tested Windows 7 on an SSD yet but from what we’ve seen so far, the OS is far more dependable than its predecessor. Sure it’s still a beta and things might improve and sure you will still get that blue screen of death from time to time, but over all, Windows 7 beta is doing better than Vista.

And speaking about that SSD performance it looks like Windows 7 runs better on SSD than Vista. You can expect better speed, better access times and lower CPU usage. And since Windows 7 and SSD are going to be surely part of your immediate future, it’s good to know that Microsoft is finally doing its job.\\

Any actual numbers to back up this baseless assertion (yieled, I might add, in a self-contradictory article wherein you begin by stating that you haven’t tested 7 on SSD but then go on to state – in the very next paragraph – that 7 is faster than Vista on SSD)?

[...] Windows 7 is around the corner so we might as well get used to its particularities. And look what we have here for you! It looks like Microsoft has designed a totally new logo for its new OS. And this flared logo is a concept totally different than what we have been seen so far from past Windows version. Truth be told, we don’t need a better logo. What we need is a better Windows version. [...]

But that doesn’t mean Microsoft isn’t already building the next computer OS. Google has just announced its Chrome OS which takes a totally different approach to the way we imagine computer OS. Will Microsoft’s future Windows version be influenced by Chrome OS? It’s too early to say especially since Windows 8 is only supposed to arrive at some point in 2012. Of course, Redmond hasn’t officially announced any details regarding its next operating system version which means that we’ll have to keep on guessing until Steve Ballmer, or anyone else from Microsoft, is ready to announce future plans for Windows.
