WiFi N Will Be Finally Approved

We were expecting for this for quite a while and now it looks like it’s finally going to happen. The 802.11n WiFi standard is going to be approved. The IEEE 802.11n draft has been sent to the Standards Review Committee where it should be made official by September at the latest.

Here’s what Bob Heile, the chairman of the IEEE 802.15 said:

On other fronts, 802.11 was granted unconditional approval to forward 11n to RevCom. After a bit of a rocky period on getting acceptable coexistence language included in the draft, I was pleased to support this approval. Congratulations to Bruce for his patience and perseverance in getting this done. This was an extremely complex project.

It has been a 5-year long road for the n draft and its favorable stars have finally aligned. Let’s see what happens next! After all there are still plenty of letters in the alphabet.
