26 Sep 08 What You Didn’t Know About the Chinese iPhone 3G with No 3G and No WiFi

One of the most weird news I got to deliver this month was China Mobile’s request to Apple to strip down 3G and WiFi support. Like I said earlier, the WiFi seems rather a harsh method. Communism in the purest form? Well not exactly! But certainly weird.

It’s understandable that a regular Chinese has no 3G support from its carrier. But to refuse WiFi is what I don’t digg. And Apple is going to listen to China Mobile’s request. After all China does have millions of mobile customers ready to get an iPhone, no matter how crappy it becomes.

A report from Daiwa Institute of Research says Apple will get an iPhone version with no 3G or WiFi ready for the Chinese market. It’s a worse first generation iPhone for China Mobile. And by the way Apple did sell about 400,000 first-gen iPhones with WiFi support in China already.

China Mobile wants its users to use only their TD-SCDMA network and nothing else. I say you shouldn’t buy one if you are in China. Get a tank and protest in front of it!
