Vodafone has just reached a deal with the Government of Ghana. Vodafone will buy 70% of Ghana Telecom which is a top three carrier in Ghana. The price for that huge chunk? $900 million which isn’t that much at all. Vodafone can surly afford that right?

That means those 1.4 million subscribers Ghana Telecom has will be managed by Vodafone mostly from now on. Ghana Telecom is the third mobile carrier in Ghana having about 17% of the market. They do much better in the fixed line and Internet provider business. They own about 99% of all fixed lines and about 90% of the retail ADSL market. Ghana Telecom had a $290 million revenue last year which is not that bad. Vodafone will work on toping that number and they should succeed given their experience in the mobile business.
