Vitendo Delivers Industry's First UMA Softphone

Vitendo Systems announced the release of vFone 4.0, a UMA-based Softphone for PC applications. UMA, or Unlicensed Mobile Access, is a component of Fixed-Mobile Convergence strategy for worldwide cellular operations, allowing mobile operators to offer their services using existing broadband and WiFi infrastructure. Identifying the need for FMC-enabled cellular operations, Vitendo's UMA Softphone will allow cellular operators to compete with P2P offerings.

With looks and features similar to that of a mobile phone, the vFone 4.0 allows end-users to make and receive calls as well as send/receive SMS messages. Other features include:

Standards compliant with GSM/IPSec

Interoperability with existing UMA deployments

Zero install architecture allows on-the-go deployments on USB flash drives and SIM card holders

Skinable UI so OEMs can customize the look and feel of the vFone

vFone 4.0 is now available now for Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
