Vitendo Delivers Industry's First UMA Softphone

|

Vitendo vFone 4.0

Vitendo Systems announced the release of vFone 4.0, a UMA-based Softphone for PC applications. UMA, or Unlicensed Mobile Access, is a component of Fixed-Mobile Convergence strategy for worldwide cellular operations, allowing mobile operators to offer their services using existing broadband and WiFi infrastructure. Identifying the need for FMC-enabled cellular operations, Vitendo's UMA Softphone will allow cellular operators to compete with P2P offerings.

With looks and features similar to that of a mobile phone, the vFone 4.0 allows end-users to make and receive calls as well as send/receive SMS messages. Other features include:

  • Standards compliant with GSM/IPSec
  • Interoperability with existing UMA deployments
  • Zero install architecture allows on-the-go deployments on USB flash drives and SIM card holders
  • Skinable UI so OEMs can customize the look and feel of the vFone

vFone 4.0 is now available now for Windows 2000, XP and Vista.
