12 Mar 09 Virgin Mobile Launches Two New Kyocera Phones

If you’re a Virgin Mobile faithful client then you’ll be happy to know the carrier has two new Kyocera handsets for you, the JAX and the X-tc. Don’t expect any wonders from them. They are entry- to mid-level phones but they’re good enough if you’re looking just for a simple cellphone.

The X-tc is the better from the two with a full QWERTY keyboard, QVGA display, 1.3 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth and preloaded Facebook and MySpace applications. Is that all worth $100?

I would be very careful with getting Virgin Mobile phones. They have less and less support and if you purchase their phones you are stuck without local support.

I was speaking with a local dealer at our mall in Washington DC and they do not have any Helio Ocean 2 phones and each week they keep delaying and saying that it should be delivered next week.

Go with a strong company with good local dealers that you can actually go to for support like Boost Mobile and with their $50 unlimited plan you really can’t go wrong.

    To “Jamie Snijan” who wrote;

    Go with a strong company.

Apparently YOU haven’t had much experience with one of those “Strong” companies.

The ONLY thing one of these “Strong” companies can do competently is EMPTY YOUR WALLET.

But Hey, if you got money to burn, and you don’ t mind being lied to and shafted, then by all means go join; “The Network”. Head to your local Mall, and go talk to the clowns.

I have the LG aloha, a very common phone. I wanted to get a new one so I looked around and I LOVE the ocean and ocean 2 but the plans are MUCH more expensive! I wish that VM would come out with a new qwerty keypad helio phone for regular plans. I don’t like the menu for virgin mobile phones…too simple.

the phone is worth $80 because its on sale at target, and if they dont have it in stock, bring in the flyer to walmart and they will match the price! pic/text, camera, internet, and it is a good solid phone, on sprints coverage map (virtually everywhere) for $50 unlimited plan per month, u cant beat that with a bat

Boost Mobile sucks, dropped calls, no service, text messaging features, and their phones are big and bulky

I’ve had my x-tc since june 09′ and it was very much worth the 100 dollars. I can’t tell you how many times i’ve dropped this phone on concrete, it’s a very tough phone. I was driving a big rig for awhile and one day back in the summer i had my door open in the truck and i was leaning out and my phone slipped from my hand and it dropped 5ft to the ground concrete i might add and it came away with a couple of nics. I love this phone, rock solid.

    Ian,

Glad you like your X-tc and it is working out for you. Continued good luck with it and thanks for the kind words!

I have the X-TC and something spilled near it after the first few days I had it, so i’ve already had to replace the battery. I want to make sure tho (since its still real new to me) you can use an ear piece, blue tooth or use the speaker phone to talk with it but you CAN’T simply put it to your ear and talk right? I want to make sure there isn’t anything wrong with mine….

    Mary,

if you are using a Bluetooth, wireless headset, you need to register it with your X-tc, so simply putting the Bluetooth headset in your ear won’t work with the phone. You need to follow your headset’s directions to pair it with your X-tc.

Now, if you are using a traditional wired headset (like iPod earphones), they should work immediately.

    I hope this helps.
