Verizon has announced it will release a new femtocell network extender on January 25th that will allow users to create their own 5,000 square foot CDMA network using their internet connection to move calls and data back and forth. Up to three individual calls can be active at any single time but the Verizon Wireless Network Extender will demand a GPS puck be attached to make insure the device is not being used outside of the US.
The femtocell is built on the same Samsung Airwave base that was used for the previous Sprint application, and like that one will enable users to make calls in areas that previously had no Verizon coverage. The Verizon Wireless Network Extender is expected to retail for right around $249.95, and may or may not require additional monthly service fees. For users who live in hard to reach areas, the device will provide welcome access.
