Unlocking the iPhone does not Damage the Device

The distributor of the "unlocking" software for the iPhone rebutted Apple's recent claim that using the "unlocking" software damages the device. These claims by Apple came when the entity known as the iPhone Dev Team released their software that let's the iPhone use an array of cellphone networks. The team said in the statement last Tuesday that its freely available software "does not cause 'damage' as they (Apple) wants us to believe."

The team also mentioned in the statement that currently, there are already several hundred thousand iPhone owners worldwide that have downloaded the software, and "that number continues growing every day." This would ultimately mean that Apple's exclusive arrangement with AT&T is already being challenged.

All of these statements were fired back by the iPhone Dev Team when Apple warned that using iPhone unlocking software "will likely result in the modified iPhone becoming permanently inoperable when a future Apple-supplied iPhone software update is installed."

That updated software version, Apple said, will be issued in the next few days.
