UK Mobile Phone Users Find Friends' Locations via Upingme
A free service which would be of great use for friends and family alike is upingme.com, a web site based in the UK. The service is touted as the first of its kind. We're all familiar with various GPS services which allow us to find people via triangulation of mobile phone towers. Upingme, however, is another story altogether. All you and your friends need to do is to subscribe for Upingme's free service.
It works a bit like social networking web sites such as MySpace or Facebook. Basically, you can broadcast where you are via texting your location to the number 41793816010. A news feed, much like an RSS, is then sent to all users which subscribe to your location information. Users can also log in the web site and query someone's location, which will be displayed on a Google map. There's no limit to the number of subscribers so you can have not only friends but also groupies subscribing to your feed. The only problem one can think of is the probability of having a stalker but the service itself is kickass concept, a lot of dynamic individuals would love.
