Toshiba Batteries Recalled
After recalling their batteries last month, Toshiba, again, issued another recall this time for Satellite A100, A105, and Tecra A7 model batteries. The description of the recalled product is stated by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC); and is particularly familiar: "Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries containing Sony cells used in Toshiba notebook computers."
Toshiba's larger recall in late July affected 10,000 batteries was also related to the use of Sony cells in the affected batteries. In both cases, Toshiba is replacing the affected batteries for free and has set up a page with additional information on the battery recall program.
If you own one of the affected laptops you should send in your battery immediately. Proper care and maintenance don't offer protection against the type of flaws behind the recalls Toshiba and Sony have announced, but the way in which you care for a system battery can have a significant impact on its longevity and ability to maintain a charge.
