An official online poker client for real-money games is not likely
to appear in the iTunes App Store
anytime soon. If you can settle for just playing poker for fun there are quite a few alternatives, however, and one of the best poker apps is actually Apple’s own “Texas Hold’em.”

As you’d expect from any app that comes out of Apple’s own development labs, the aptly named “Texas Holdem” looks stunning and offers excellent gameplay. It makes good use of the iPhone interface, letting you drag the chips on the screen to go all-in or tap to check and pass the action
along. You can play with up to eight of your friends over a Wi-Fi connection.

Homegame Utility: Poker Timer

To impress your poker buddies in your next homegame, install the iPhone Poker Timer from the App Store. It’s intended for poker tournaments and provides information about the current level and alerts you when it’s time to up the ante.

Not a Texas Holdem game but rather a casino poker variant much like Caribbean Stud. You play against the dealer by placing two bets and an ante on the table before you receive the cards. When the cards have been dealt you can choose to raise or withdraw the bet depending on the
strength of your hand. It’s a very simple but addictive game.

MotionX Poker

MotionX lets you play poker by rolling the dice. There are five slots on the screen that you need to fill to make a valid poker hand - first you shake your iPhone to roll the dice (which represent cards) and drag them to a slot to lock them and then roll again to improve the hand. MotionX is a novel idea with a great interface and nice graphics.
