TeliaSonera is said to develop the first commercial 4G wireless networks. The carrier has Ericsson and Huawei ready to deploy it in Stockholm and Oslo.

Lars Klasson, CTO and Vice President of TeliaSonera said:

We have chosen Ericsson to deliver the initial 4G city network in Stockholm and Huawei for the initial 4G city network in Oslo. Now, TeliaSonera continues the evaluation of suppliers to deliver 4G networks in the Nordic and Baltic countries.

The project will launch officially in 2010. Hopefully by then we’re going to have other carriers ready to deploy 4G networks in other countries too. And while we’re at it some of them should really improve their 3G networks before getting to the next level.
