All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

This is not the first time we hear that Creative might launch a smartphone based on the Zii platform but it looks like this time we might be right. A Zii Android phone is said to be coming this December. In fact creative has a special event planned in which such a device could be announced. The Zii EGG is apparently the smartphone in question:

The Zii EGG is an energy efficient handheld StemCell Computer based on the powerful ZiiLABS ZMS-05 media-rich applications processor. Besides its multi-touch 3.5-inch LCD screen, it can also output HD video at up to 1080p. The ZMS-05’s 24 floating-point processors deliver up to 8 GFLOPS of raw processing power, while the StemCell Computing’s flexible architecture allows stunning display of 3D graphics on a small handheld battery powered device. Release to end user will be around the October time frame.

We’re past October and we’re still waiting for the EGG. Will we see it soon? Naturally, we will be all over the Zii Android phone once it comes out of its secret shell, so stick around!

For some reason eBook readers are more and more popular these days. After the Kindle we’ve seen Sony’s reader, Barnes & Noble’s Nook and Plastic Logic’s QUE. Asus is also working on a few eReaders and it seems that Creative decided to make one of its own. Dubbed the MediaBook, Creative’s eBook reader might be based on the Zii platform and it’s said to come with some very impressive features like a color touchscreen display ready to let you read all the eBooks you want and support for videos and pictures. Although this MediaBook did get leaked there are no leaked pictures yet. And it’s way too early for pricing details and release dates so we’ll all have to wait for Creative to announce the reader until we get too excited about it.

There’s a new PMP in town and it’s coming from Creative. I am not talking about that hot Zii EGG but about the newly announced Zen X-Fi2 player.

The X-Fi2 is going to offer you a touchscreen to control it as there are no more buttons in this version. The PMP will sport a 3-inch touchscreen display, built-in microphone, FM radio, RSS reader support and microSD card support. It will be available in three versions: 8GB, 16GB and 32GB and it will cost you $129.99, $179.99 and $229.99 respectively. The X-Fi2 is available for pre-order so go ahead and do it if it fits your needs!

  • The Zii EGG is finally out in the open officially and starting today you might have your unit shipped to your door. As you can see in the hands-on videos above and below the Zii EGG is working perfectly. According to the lucky owner the screen compares “very favorably” with the S Series Walkman and the Zii seems to bring “the bet sounding Creative player” so far. What do you think? Would you buy a Creative Zii EGG or are you going to wait and see what new iPods are going to be launched in September?

According to the FCC, Creative is on the verge of launching two new MP3 players, the Zii and Zii EGG. Anyone having a deja-vu feeling? These players look similar to the iPod touch and the Zune HD. Which one would you choose?

We don’t have all the specs yet but it’s clear for everyone that these new players will come with HD cameras. This also powers up the rumor according to which iPods are going to get cameras themselves. The Zii and Zii EGG will also come with 802.11b/g WiFi and the Zii system-on-chip.

So what do you say Creative? When are you launching the new players?

Remember that Zii we were waiting to see a while ago? Well it looks like it has finally started to come up with solutions for the mobile world that we might be interested in. ZiiLabs is going to present HD video playback for the Android platform at MWC. So if you are in Spain starting with Monday, February 16, go check them out. ZiiLabs will use the ZMS-05 CPU previously displayed at CES 2009 to make this all happen. We’ll be waiting to cover their glamorous success or utter failure in a few days.

    And the Zii Is…

Lots of important announcements today guys and gals. We’ve seen Sony unveil some of its upcoming products and now we have Creative telling us all about its hot Zii Stemcell Computing thing. And apparently “Zii is a super computer in nano size”. And it’s not a Wii gaming concept is it?

Creative has a ZiiLabs ZMS-05 SoC or System on a Chip. Creative’s new chip is really small. It’s 100x smaller, 100x cheaper and 100x greener than a typical super computer. As for Stemcell Computing that must mean that you could link an unlimited number of chips to do the job for you.

Now we need a product to pack the Zii so we can see what it can actually do. Until then it will be just a great concept.

    Creative Fires 2,700 People

By now you are definitely use to seeing the buzz around Creative and its Zii Steamcell Computing. Right now we’re wondering how that whole new thing will be possible with the recent layoffs. The company has decided to fire about 2,700 people which is almost half of its current workforce. Last year was one of the worst financial years for Creative as the company had a net loss of $19.7 million. With all that in mind, how do you suppose that the Zii thing will work out for us? Is it really a product that will blow our minds considering the current economical crisis?
