Dell’s slimmest laptop so far, the Adamo XPS, has posed again for the camera. We still don’t know if Dell is ever going to launch the laptop officially but it would be pretty interesting to see it in action. We’re still curious to see what kind of battery Dell would fit into a case that’s just 9.99mm thick. Who would want a laptop with a poor battery just because it’s the slimmest in the world? Would you buy a Dell Adamo XPS if you had the chance? Or would you go for the MacBook Air instead?

  • The stick you see in the picture here is not a stick but it’s a future Dell laptop. The teaser picture has been released yesterday but it’s no wonder people missed it since everyone was thinking iPod thoughts. There are no details about this MacBook Air-like computer as Dell wanted to tell the world about it precisely on 09/09/09. It must have something to do with the fact that this Adamo is only 9.99mm thick. We’re not going to go into the whole numbers and their signification. After all nobody wants to turn those 9s into 6s and start thinking unholy thoughts.

Getting back to the laptop in the picture, we can expect it to cost a lot more than we would normally want to pay for a laptop running laptop and we can expect it not to impress us in any way. What do you say Dell? Can we be wrong?

  • In case color is important for you then you should know that Dell is ready to offer you both the Studio XPS 13 and 16 laptops in white. Dell has brought the color back after discontinuing it a while ago. If you’re ready to pay $40 for an “Arctic White High Gloss” hue then go ahead and order your new Dell Studio XPS laptop now. In case color is not that important then I’m sure you will be able to invest that extra $40 in something more useful.

Future buyers of Dell laptops will have the possibility to add a 256GB SSD to their chosen configuration. Dell will offer the new SSDs to those buying a new XPS M1330 or M1730. The upgrade will cost you $400. If you want a smaller SSD, say the 128GB then that upgrade is also available for just $200. In case you’d rather get a regular HDD, that’s available too and you can choose a 500GB version. Other Dell laptops are going to receive these two storage solutions in the future so keep an eye out.

The Core i7 processor from Intel is something I’d want to test as soon as possible. It might not be as hot as some people say, but it’s certainly the processor we’ll be using in the future.

Dell has decided it was time it inserted it in some of its desktop systems. And let’s take a look at the first two, the XPS Studio and the XPS 730x. The Studio XPS desktop base model will get you 3GB memory, 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 GPU and a 500GB HDD for $949. Willing to pay more? $1,499 will get you 6GB of RAM, a 512MB2 ATI Radeon HD 4850, a 750GB HDD and a 24-inch S2409W Flat panel monitor.

The XPS 730x is gaming-ready. It can hold up to 6GB DDR3 memory, an updated thermal monitoring system and chasis and a choice between ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB and NVIDIA GeForce GTX280 1024MB. The 730x starts somewhere around $2,599 and no matter what hardware you choose, Vista and i7 will be there.

What do you think? Waiting for the Core i7?

Are we getting new XPS laptops from Dell? Well it certainly looks that way. According to leaked images, the two new machines, the Studio XPS 13 and 16 are supposed to come out in November.

The new laptops are said to come with Intel Centrino 2 processors, with hybrid SLI support, slot-loading Blu-ray drives, edge-to-edge glass displays with LED backlight, WiMAX and UWB and backlit keyboards.

    Dell to Downgrade XPS Line?

It appears that Dell’s XPS line will be demoted. Don’t worry, it will still be there to chose it when you buy a new Dell computer but not as a separate line. Whenever you will purchase and Inspiron or Studio product and you will opt in for the high end choice you will find the XPS to be exactly that ultimate product you were looking for. (more…)

    Dell XPS M1730

After the spotting of the Dell XPS m1330 a couple of months ago, the folks over the Engadget report the sighting of another Dell, this time the Dell XPS M1730. The XPS M1730, an apparent heir to the M1710, features a large 17″ display and the info being passed around Dell’s Round Rock, Texas headquarters indicate that the M1730 will be nothing less than a beast underneath, packing a punch with an Intel Core 2 Extreme X7800 mobile processor. The X7800, if you missed out, is targeted at gaming/video editing and other CPU intensive applications.

Starting models will come with a 256MB Nvidia GeForce 8600 GS card and go up to a 512MB GeForce 8700M GT. System memory will be topped at 4GB (although you can’t really see all of it in Windows XP and certain versions of Windows Vista), and you will also have Bluetooth 2.0 on your hands for your wireless/mobile/PDA needs.

No word on the pricing, but it may be coming out of the Dell labs on August 27, 2007.

  • m1330-dell-laptop.jpgFor everyone that’s been holding their breath and waiting, the good news arrived this morning. Dell has finally started the large-scale production of the Dell XPS M1330. The XPS M1330 will be shipped beginning this week to all regions.

Earlier, there has been some issues concerning the Dell XPS M1330 specially with regards to its LED display that added time to the estimated ship date.

The shipment for the XPS M1330 was delayed for several reasons. This includes the time it took to ramp production on the new product, issues such as part shortages, technical glitches, simple cosmetic issues, and other unanticipated issues that can arise when mass production starts.

But now, the wait is over. The M1330 that was clearly built with an emphasis on good looks and clean lines is finally on its way. It will be sporting a 13.3-inch screen, configurable with a LED backlight. It gets its muscle from its Core 2 Duo processor Santa Rosa chipset with up to 2.4 Ghz of power. Additional specs are its 4GB DDR2 SDRAM and an external video memory coming from NVIDIA GeForce Go 8400M GS which generates up to 128MB dedicated memory.
