In case you’re waiting for Sony Ericsson to offer you a Windows Mobile 6.5 update for your Xperia X1 then you’d be better off actually buying a new Windows Mobile 6.5 phone. Sony Ericsson will not officially support Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Xperia X1. Sure you can find a way of installing Microsoft’s latest mobile OS but that doesn’t mean Sony Ericsson will help you through the process.

I don’t think that this strategy will work in favor of Sony Ericsson. In fact some people will choose to ditch the Xperia X1 and get a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone from the competition. What do you say folks?

  • Sony Ericsson’s first Android device, the Xperia X10, will not be available this year. But you already knew that What you didn’t know is that the smartphone is going to be available at some point in February 2010. That’s what Sony Ericsson’s online store is currently suggesting. The phone should be made available around MWC 2010 although Sony Ericsson will not confirm any firm date so far. You can’t pre-order the X10 yet but you can sign up in order to receive further information about this Xperia Android phone. Pricing details are also unknown but retailers say the phone will go for 400 before taxes as the X10 is part of Sony Ericsson’s Xperia premium phone line.

What do you say? Are you waiting for the Xperia X10 or are you more interested in other Android phones that happen to be available right now?

  • Sony Ericsson Rachael Video Leaks

Next Tuesday Sony Ericsson is going to launch its first Android device, the Xperia X3 aka Rachael. Although most people are busy pre-ordering the Droid from Verizon, they should really stop and see what this Rachael phone is all about. The teaser above has been officially leaked and the handset looks pretty interesting. Sure 20 seconds of video featuring a turned-off device isn’t enough for us, is it? But at least we know the Rachael looks better than expected. All we need now are some decent specs and a matching personality and we might just have a Droid competitor on our hands!

Sony Ericsson has been working on at least an Android phone so far and it looks like the manufacturer is ready to launch one. Whether it’s the Xperia X3 also known as the Rachael or the Xperia X10, Sony Ericsson’s first Android phone is supposed to arrive on November 3. Pricing and details aren’t confirmed at this point so we’ll return next week with all the official info.

The Rachael could be at least as good as the Droid but unfortunately for Sony Ericsson Motorola’s and Verizon’s marketing campaigns made sure that anyone interested in Android phones will want to buy the Droid. What do you think folks? Will Sony Ericsson be successful in its Android venture?

Rumors say that the first Android phone coming over from Sony Ericsson will be the Xperia X10 and not the Xperia X3 as expected. The phone should be available in February 2010 and not earlier as previously expected. That seems a little too late! In the mean time we’re going to see a lot of other Android phones which will probably steal a lot of customers that could otherwise be interested in the Xperia X10.

An insider familiar with the X10 had this to say about the phone:

The device is super flat and further the size of the screen similar to that of the HTC Touch HD. Furthermore, the device is slightly rounded, according to the two-SE employees that the new trend in SE … What had struck me as the big screen and the thickness of the device. The device is really ultrathin fact! I also do not specifically on the camera side view, but the device is comfortable to hand and is much lighter than a x1.

Maybe someone should tell Sony Ericsson that Motorola will probably launch the Droid, HTC will unveil the Dragon and Acer will start selling the Liquid A1 before February 2010. If the X10 is such a great device, maybe we should see it in the flash earlier. Let’s say before Christmas 2009?

Seems like Sony Ericsson wants to cover all the OS bases this January.  Besides the WM6.5-toting X2 that is set for a January 2010 release, MobileCrunch now reveals that the X2 successor, X3, will hit the streets at about the same time, SE’s first device with Android under the hood.  Hard to believe but looks like a great marketing ploy, considering that every other manufacturer is getting in on the Android game, and SE seems to have realized that the sooner the better.  This is yet to be confirmed, so you might want to take this news with a spoonful of skepticism, but if it is true, seeing the quality that the Xperia devices carry, we will have two great devices to choose from next January!

Sony Ericsson Xperia line is about to get a new addition. The X3, which we also know under the name of Rachael, is supposed to be officially unveiled sometime early next year. By early we mean January of course, but that still needs to be confirmed by the manufacturer.

If this all proves to be true, what phone will you go for? The Windows Mobile X2 or the Android-powered X3? Current rumors imply that both phones will be available at the same time in January 2010 and we certainly hope that actually happens. Maybe it’s time Sony Ericsson got back in the game with some hot smartphones.

It’s game time again folks and the opposing forces are the Xperia X2 and the Xperia X3. What will you choose between WinMo and Android?

Sure, the design does give us a break from the standard designs that we see everyday, but would that merit a £530 price tag? And if that’s not a blow enough, Brand Republic, a magazine, revealed that the Sony Ericsson Pureness will not travel the usual routes to the customer but make its way to stores like the Selfridges and other “design museum shops” when it is released in UK this November.  According to Cathy Davies, SE’s marketing director, the Pureness will be positioned more as an “iconic niche product, not mass-market.”  Sounds more and more like a luxury phone than a low-end candybar with a transparent display, so write us down for the €599 X2 instead.

Sony Ericsson’s latest phone, the Xperia X2 has an off contract price apparently. The device has been leaked by eXpansys UK and it will cost $1,010. The phone will be released on January 11, 2010 so if you want a brand new, unlocked Sony Ericsson phone and you’re ready to pay all that cash for it then eXpansys UK is the way to go. Should we assume that the X2 will be overpriced even when purchased with a new contract? It’s only a Windows Mobile phone after all, and there are other phones out there that are definitely more popular and a lot cheaper. Will the X2 be a success or should we wait for Sony Ericsson to launch its first Android smartphones?

This is one of the weirdest Sony Ericsson you will ever see. And it has one of the weirdest names which happens to replace an even weirder name. The phone in the picture has been officially released by Sony Ericsson and we shall refer to it as the Xperia Pureness even if it doesn’t have anything to do with the Xperia line of smartphone. At least we’re not calling it Kiki anymore!

Sony Ericsson didn’t reveal any specs. All we know so far is that the Pureness is a candybar phone with a transparent screen. The phone will be available in November so we have plenty of time to see if it’s worth buying.

  • When will Sony Ericsson officially launch the Xperia X2? More and more details are emerging and they are available around the web and more pictures have appeared. But the company is not announcing the handset yet.

And here’s a quick recap of specs:

    • 8.1 megapixel auto-focus camera,
    • VGA video recording at 30fps
    • 3.5-inch WVGA OLED display
    • GPS
    • 3.5mm audio jack
    • Accelerometer
    • Faster processor
    • 512 RAM
    • Custom Windows Mobile 6.5
    • XPERIA Panels
    • Upgradable to Windows Mobile 7

How much would you pay for the Xperia X2? There’s no word on pricing just yet so we might as well speculate on it.

We can definitely see Sony Ericsson pairing its interesting Xperia design with an Android OS. In fact that’s a more than good idea. An Android Xperia could be the killer phone we’re expecting from Sony Ericsson.

But the Sony Kiki concept isn’t bad either. For one thing, this phone is really green so should we expect it to be really eco-friendly too? It’s so green it doesn’t even have any keypad. So how would one be able to interact with it? Simply press your finger against that glass right? That seems pretty logical but we have no official news from Sony Ericsson regarding this phone.

And what about the screen of the Kiki? Is it projected on the glass surface? It would certainly seem so:

The display seems to be made of glass, and the screen image appears to be projected onto this glass surface. It makes it possible to create a sort of depth in the screen image, and it looks rather exciting. We’re very much looking forward to seeing more of this.

Again, there’s no official Sony Ericsson position on the Kiki just yet but our interest has certainly been piqued.

At this point we’re not sure how much merit you should put into this rumor, but take it as you will. A Danish mobile phone site, Mobil, has recently gotten their hands on what they are calling internal documents showcasing an Android powered Sony Ericcson XPERIA reportedly codenamed Rachael.

According to the documents, this phone will feature a full 1GHZ Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 8MP camera, HSPA and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Other than that, no details were spoken of. However, if this handset is truly set to hit the market sometime we can expect a statement from Sony in the coming weeks/months.

X1_Front.jpgBetter late than never right? That seems to be Rogers‘ policy concerning the Xperia X1. While Sony Ericsson is getting ready to launch the X2 at some point in the future, Rogers is only ready to sell the first version of the phone.

The phone will cost $249.99 with a 3-year contract and at this point in time it wouldn’t be that wise to get one. You’d be better of getting some of the new phones available or simply wait for the Xperia X2 to be launched. What say you, Xperia X1 phone fans?

We’ve already seen the Xperia X2 twice so far and we have an idea of what features to expect from it when it arrives. Today we get to see it in Silver and it certainly looks better. And a lot thinner I might add although at this point we’re still guessing. If the phone has been already leaked to everyone why isn’t Sony Ericsson do the honorable thing and announces it? Will any carrier be ready to pick this Windows Mobile 6.5 carrier up?

After two photo sessions with the Xperia X2 it’s time to show you some specs of it. Unfortunatelly these features aren’t confirmed yet but they would very well fit with the pictures. So here they are:

    • 8.1 megapixel camera with auto focus,
    • VGA video recording at 30fps
    • 3.5 inch WVGA OLED touchscreen display
    • GPS, aGPS
    • 3.5 mm headphone jack
    • accelerometer
    • faster processor
    • 512 RAM
    • custom Windows Mobile 6.5
    • XPERIA Panels with innovative features
    • Upgrading to Windows Mobile 7 is supported by Xperia panels

The X2 seems a lot better than the X1, at least from where we’re looking. That Windows Mobile 6.5 OS we were talking about yesterday is there and it looks like the X2 will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 7. We’ll be looking forward for Sony Ericsson to officially mention the X2.

We have just told you about the next Xperia smartphone from Sony Ericsson and it looks like more pictures of the X2 have been leaked. The Xperia X2 seems more and more certain and it even has a codename, the Vulcan. This Xperia will be black and it will run on Windows Mobile like its predecessor. According to the pictures it will also sport an 8 megapixel camera with flash. We’ll be waiting for the official Sony Ericsson announcement for more specs, but it might take a while since the phone could be launched only in 2011.

    Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 Revealed?

The Xperia X1 was definitely one important phone for Sony Ericsson and it should be only logical for the manufacturer to work on a follower. Is this the one? Is this the X2? From what we can see in the picture it’s definitely a Sony Ericsson phone. It has an X Panel button and a Windows key so it definitely qualifies as the next Xperia. The handset offers a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard which is also consistent with what we’d expect from the next Xperia. Anyone interested in a potential X2?

Here’s a Windows Mobile phone we thought we wouldn’t see by the end of this year. But it looks like Sony Ericsson has outdone themselves and the cell phone will be soon available in more markets. Right now we know it has landed in Sweden and we have proof of it.

There’s no point in telling you about the touchscreen or the slide-out full QWERTY keyboard right? And you already know it’s got GPS, WiFi and a decent 3.2 megapixel camera. We did talk about the Xperia pretty much right? Now I’d be more interested in what Sony Ericsson is going to offer next. There are rumors about future Xperia versions. Some people would say such versions will be based on Android OS. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Enjoy the pictures while you wait for your X1.
