Okay so maybe the following handsets are not the all the phones Rogers Wireless will launch this summer but they will surely be among the most popular: the LG Rumor 2, Sony Ericsson C905 and Xperia X1, HTC Dream and Magic and the new iPhone. Here they are:
- LG Rumor 2 (Solo Mobile) — ETA: May 25th, outright: $160.00, 2-year contract: $75.00
- Sony Ericsson C905 — ETA: May 19th (delayed), outright: $449.99, 3-year contract: $249.99 ($299.99 without Rogers Vision)
- HTC Dream — ETA: June 2nd (limited quantity, availability will increase by June 12th), outright: $649.99, 3-year contract: $199.99
- HTC Magic — ETA: June 2nd, outright: $649.99, 3-year contract: $199.99
- Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 — ETA: June 30th (barring additional delays), outright: TBD ($649 - $749), 3-year: $299.99 (will launch at $249.99)
- iPhone — ETA: unknown (July/August), outright: not allowed, 3-year: TBD
Unfortunately there’s no clear indication as when will the new iPhone arrive. Rogers will probably launch it around the same time the AT&T will for a similar price. What phone would you choose?

The country which sees some of the best tech we envy before us seems to be the farthest on Sony Ericsson’s mind, at least when it comes to releasing its flagship Xperia X1 smartphone. SK Telecom will be the lucky carrier to play mama to this multimedia monster, but are those tech-savvy Koreans really that eager to get their hands on it, considering the kind of Korean gadgets that we hear and see in pictures from time to time? The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 isn’t available here in the States too, but who cares when have the iPhone 3.0 to look forward to, huh?

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 was probably one of the most expected cell phones from Sony but we always got mixed news about it. It looks that the X1a won’t spare us either. The phone was supposed to be shipped starting today, December 8th. That didn’t happen yet and it looks like the X1a will not arrive until January 9th. SonyStyle.com seems to have January 12th as a shipping date. Who are we to believe then? More importantly, what phone would you choose instead for Christmas?

Like the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X1a? You’ll be able to get it sometime at the end of November or early December. But it isn’t cheap. It will loosen your pockets with $799.99. Well yeah, this is the price for the unlocked version of Xperia. No carrier has mentioned anything about the prices with a plan for their brand new phone yet.
But anyways at Best Buy’s you can place your pre-order, pay the 800 bucks and start looking forward to the end of November!

The FCC has just approved Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 but hold on to your hats. You might not see it arrive that soon in your country. The FCC has approved a version X1i which is going to be released in Europe probably. The device they played with lacked 3G support which doesn’t sound that good, does it.
But since the X1i was already approve we assume it’s only a matter of time until a North American version will be given the OK. Hopefully the X1 will arrive in most markets by the end of the year. Waiting for carriers to announce it.

We would have been a bit more skeptical about this latest piece of news on the Xperia front, had it not come straight from the Japanese-Swedish mobile manufacturer. Contrary to all the rumors being thrown around about Sony Ericsson’s new flagship multimedia device, the Xperia X1 is on track for a launch on September 30 with a gradual rollout in select markets in the fourth quaerter of 2008. For now, if you are in London, head over to Tent London, Hall T4, as Sony Ericsson is showcasing the Xperia X1 to get a firsthand experience of its big VGA touchscreen display, that hidden arc-sliding QWERTY keypad, and everything else it has to offer!

Things appear to be better for the Xperia X1. Sony Ericsson has launched the SDK for it which means software creators out there can start inventing new Windows Mobile applications for the handset.
The SDK runs on visual studio so it will be quite easy for developers to start working on new apps. Testing them won’t require an actual Xperia X1 phone since all testing can be done straight on the PC where the handset is emulated.
The SDK release should suggest an official launch closing in soon. From what we know, Sony Ericsson has confirmed a Q4 release without suggesting any actual dates.

In case you forgot about Sony Ericsson’s smartphone, the Xperia X1, well we didn’t. And while keeping our eyes out we heard that 3 is going to launch the Xperia X1 in November.
There aren’t any specific details about pricing or special plans but the phone is coming from 3. Or that’s the word on the street so far. The Xperia X1 is a sliding smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard and the introduction of Windows Mobile 6.1. Quite a change from the Symbian S60 which Sony Ericsson regularly uses.

It’s been a while since we heard anything new on Sony Ericsson’s upcoming flagship device, the Xperia X1, but the device was seen lurking around at the CommunicAsia fair held in Singapore recently. I have said it already and will still say that this is one hot device that I truly look forward to in 2008. The VGA screen really stands out, even though we are just looking at pictures. Makes us want to forgive Sony Ericsson for dumping the BeiBei and Paris, doesn’t it? If you missed out on the specs from our earlier coverage, here’s what you will get when the device hits the stores:

I wish I got my hands on the new Sony Ericsson’s Xperia X1. The things I would do to it… In the mean time others have touched it and played with it and that’s simply not fair. The X1 is coming sometime in the second part of 2008 with no specific details yet on pricing or interested carriers.

Those guys over at Megawhat.tv had a chance to lay their grubby paws on Samsung’s newest touchscreen toy, the Omnia aka i900 and man is that a monster, and that goes for its size as well as its features. As we already told you, this sleek touchscreen device has a huge 3.2-inch WQVGA touchscreen display to see some of Samsung’s TouchWiz technology in full glory running on some WM 6.1 Pro sweetness and a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with dual-LED flash. It’s connections galore when it comes to Omnia with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 network support, HSDPA at 7.2Mbps, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and TV-out. The i900 will be available in two variations of 8 and 16GB but if that doesn’t suffice you, the microSD slot can fill that void for you. Ah, now that’s you’ll get when you combine a N95 and Xperia X1. The i900 will hit the stores this August, so not a long wait!
