Apple and Wintek have once again been cast together in the ongoing drama of the Apple Media Pad touchscreen tablet. First named back in March as a supplier of 10-inch capacitive touch-panels for an unknown product from the Cupertino company, additional sources, this time notebook-related IC designers, have reconfirmed that Wintek has indeed won the panel order from Apple.
This latest round of leaks adds in the news that the Apple device is an “e-book form factor netbook product”, which matches with the recent talk of a handheld touchscreen slate-format device. It is anticipated that it will slot in-between the iPod touch and a normal Apple notebook, the Media Pad will prioritize internet access and VoIP, and have integrated WiFi.

According to a recent rumor, Nokia is apparently working on a new high-end handset which will come with a Synaptics touchscreen integrated circuit. The new phone should be available by the third quarter of the year so we should definitely have more details by then. The phone is not the N97 which we’re all expecting to go on sale starting with June.
The rumor is based on the fact that Wintek, the supplier already bringing resistive touchscreens to Nokia’s 5800, has received orders for capacitive touchscreen from Nokia.
