What you see above is reportedly a comparison between Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7 with 6.5 on the top, and 7 on the bottom.

As you can see, even though Windows Mobile 6.5 has just hit the scene Windows Mobile 7 makes it look extremely dated. However, this is to be expected considering Windows Mobile 7 is a complete remake of the operating system as opposed to just an update as 6.5 was.

A little while ago we told you that Best Buy is the exclusive retailer of Nokia’s first netbook, the Booklet 3G. At that time no carrier was willing to subsidized the netbook, but all that has changed by now. AT&T is the first carrier that’s going to sell the Nokia Booklet 3G in the USA. The netbook will be available for $299 with a 2-year contract. That’s the cheapest version available with a $60 per month data plan. Other prices will also be available with cheaper monthly data plans and AT&T will also sell the device without a contract for $599. The netbook will be available in just over a week, on October 22, as soon as Windows 7 will be launched. Will you get it?

  • Windows Mobile 6.5 has only just made its official debut on October 6th and already the internet is a buzz over the release date of Windows Mobile 7.

As you can see from the above leaked slide, Windows Mobile 7 is supposedly set for an RTM release date of spring 2010.

As always, this is just a rumor until Microsoft makes an official announcement.

Don’t look so surprised by that number! Windows Mobile 6.5 is coming and it looks like there are quite a few phone makers ready to roll phone capable or running Microsoft’s newest OS. And while we’re definitely thrilled to see that concept tablet, the Courier already, we can’t say we’re similarly interested in Windows Mobile 6.5. The OS is clearly a transition platform from the old Windows Mobile 6 to the future Windows Mobile 7.

Nonetheless manufacturers out there are ready to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 phones! Those 30 new handsets capable of running Microsoft latest OS will be made by HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Acer, Toshiba and HP. The phones will be released by the end of the year and we know a few carriers are definitely interested: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo, Softbank Mobile, SKT, Telestra and Telus.

Will you buy a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone?

Remember Microsoft’s Pink project? Well it looks like the folks at Redmond are working hard on future Microsoft phones. Although Steve Ballmer did say a number of times that Microsoft will not launch its own phone line, it looks like those were just words said in order to keep everyone else that’s making Windows Mobile phones happy.

Nothing is confirmed just yet but it looks like a couple of Pink phones have been leaked, the Turtle and the Pure. The phones should be presented in a few months at CES 2010 but Microsoft will not launch them until later when Windows Mobile 7 will be ready to dazzle the masses.

And I hope you’re sitting down for this one, as there’s one more rumor that seems a lot hotter. It looks like Microsoft is preparing a response to Apple’s first tablet. Microsoft will create its own tablet. Will the gadget be revealed at CES 2010? Will we see Microsoft launch it before Apple does? Nothing’s certain so far but the future Microsoft tablet will be based on Microsoft’s Surface technology.

Here’s a pleasant surprise from Microsoft! It seems that Windows Mobile 7.0 is getting ready for beta. Here’s what the LinkedIn profile of a Chinese Senior Engineer at Motorola says:

    3. Joining Caesar product development, lead a team to do telephony feature and other applications development. Migrated relative applications from Windows Mobile 6 to Windows Mobile 7

    Language: C++
    Tools: VS2008, AKU, Platform Builder
Runtime Environment: Windows Mobile 7.0 (Beta)

Does this mean that Windows Mobile is going to be available sometime in April 2010. If all this is true you might want to simply skip Windows Mobile 6.5 phones and wait for the real thing. In the mean time there are plenty of alternatives for you to choose from if you really need a new smartphone.

Recent reports have suggested that Microsoft is planning to debut their updated mobile operating system, Windows Mobile 7, on devices starting in Q4 2010. But don’t think we can wash our hands clear of Windows Mobile 6.5 yet as the same reports say that Microsoft will support the two operating systems simultaneously.

This, in turn, will help Microsoft compete with the iPhone and Android operating system as they will have the higher end Windows Mobile 7 on the market alongside the cheaper Windows Mobile 6.5. Will it work? Only time will tell.

Well sure it’s a Microsoft phone you’ll say, it will run some sort of Windows Mobile version on it! That’s true but what I mean is that the phone appears to be Microsoft-branded. Could this Pink smartphone project be the first Microsoft phone? Microsoft denied more than once that it’s working on an own mobile device but what if that changed?

Sure maybe Microsoft will not call it a Zune phone in which case the company was awfully right when declaring that no Zune phone is going to be created soon. The Pink phone is said to run on Windows Mobile 7 and we can expect some sort of custom UI on top of the regular OS. Pink is also said to be a Sidekick-like phone and it could be manufactured by Sharp or Motorola. Unfortunately we don’t have any hot details about it!

A lot of questions come to mind but we shall leave them unanswered for now. We’ll be waiting for someone to leak that Pink-related ad campaign that Microsoft is reportedly working on.

After two photo sessions with the Xperia X2 it’s time to show you some specs of it. Unfortunatelly these features aren’t confirmed yet but they would very well fit with the pictures. So here they are:

    • 8.1 megapixel camera with auto focus,
    • VGA video recording at 30fps
    • 3.5 inch WVGA OLED touchscreen display
    • GPS, aGPS
    • 3.5 mm headphone jack
    • accelerometer
    • faster processor
    • 512 RAM
    • custom Windows Mobile 6.5
    • XPERIA Panels with innovative features
    • Upgrading to Windows Mobile 7 is supported by Xperia panels

The X2 seems a lot better than the X1, at least from where we’re looking. That Windows Mobile 6.5 OS we were talking about yesterday is there and it looks like the X2 will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 7. We’ll be looking forward for Sony Ericsson to officially mention the X2.

    AT&T LG Monaco

One more slider is coming to AT&T and that’s the LG Monaco. Its specs include a 3.2-inch WVGA touchscreen, a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera, a full QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, microSDHC support and HSDPA connectivity.

The Monaco sounds a lot better than the Pantech Aladdin doesn’t it? And the Monaco will come with a Pico projector and it will run Windows Mobile 7. That means you’ll probably have to wait about a year to get your hands on it.

  • Microsoft Pink Comes with Features

We’re still recovering from that earlier Zune phone news and now we have to deal with another Microsoft project, the Pink, which, from the looks of it, it’s a smartphone. Now the Pink has some features available. The phone will have a 3.5-inch or even larger multitouch display, an ARM v6+ processor, OpenGL ES 2.0-compatible graphics, 256MB of RAM and 1GB or more of storage. We can also expect a 3 megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, a compass and an accelerometer. Think we’re done yet? We have even more leaked details for you! NVIDIA’s Tegra platform is also going to be part of the Pink project. TI’s OMAP 3 platform and Qualcomm 8k are also listed. Will Microsoft use all three of them?

That’s how Windows 7 Chasis 1 smartphones will look like but we can’t say for certain how will Microsoft bundle all those specs. According to previous rumors the Pink is not a phone but a project meant to bring Zune software and services to Windows Mobile. Should we assume that Windows Mobile 7 will come with lots of Pink features inside? Let’s hear it Mr. Ballmer? What will it be?

    Windows Mobile 7 Pictures Leaked

Windows Mobile 6.5 isn’t even here yet and we have already started to see alleged screenshots of Windows Mobile 7 here and there. Sure we’d like to believe version 7 will be the Microsoft mobile OS capable of making a name for itself in the mobile business but it will be a while until we’re going to see it in action.

Until then we’re left to admire this screenshots here and imagine a better Windows Mobile OS for our phones. And we can’t say yet if any of these pictures represent the real thing or if they’re the result of someone’s bored imagination.

Steve Ballmer’s at it again and this time he sets his focus upon Windows Mobile 7. While we originally learned from a Motorola exec that Windows Mobile 7 probably wouldn’t hit the market until 2010, Big Bad Ballmer cleared that up for us; Windows Mobile 7 is officially set for a 2010 release date.

Ballmer then went on to say, in a Strategic Update Meeting, that a Zune branded phone will never hit the market. Microsoft currently has no plans to produce their own cellphone hardware and will leave that up to the pros.

  • It seems we have arrival dates for both Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7. Windows Mobile 6.5 should be presented in all its glory at the MWC. Microsoft will release it then in Q3 and sources say that means September. Windows Mobile 7 on the other hand might not be presented at the MWC but early beta versions of the OS might be available as soon as November 2009 with an official release of Windows Mobile 7 in April 2010. Are any of these Microsoft OS going to successfully battle Apple, Android or Palm?

Well what is this Microsoft? Are you really not going to launch Windows Mobile 7 this year? I mean sure you can always use version 6.7 for now but is it good enough to keep up with the competition?

Motorola’s CEO Sanjay Jha said after revealing Moto’s disastrous Q4 2008 performance that Windows Mobile 7 isn’t going to arrive until 2010 at the earliest. Was he referring to Motorola Windows Mobile 7 devices or to the worldwide expected release date? Did Mr. Sanjay Jha just confirm that Motorola will still be rolling out Windows Mobile handsets in the future?

Microsoft might clear up all this nonsense at MWC unless it will only focus on Windows Mobile 6.5.

The video above is too long but it’s Microsoft opening keynote at CES. In case you were dreaming about a Zune Phone or a Windows Mobile 7 then let me just say these aren’t happening just yet. There was no Zune Phone announced and as for Windows, Microsoft insisted on Windows 7 and the beta that has just become official. Window Mobile 7 is nowhere near ready yet and the only worthy announcement regarding Microsoft Mobile’s OS was the integration of Netflix. You will be able to manage your Netflix queue from your Windows Mobile phone in the near future.

While we don’t really want a Zune Phone (or do we?) we are interested in the future of Windows Mobile. Every other OS out there is going through significant changes which Windows Mobile is bound to loose some of that market share it still holds.

Remember when we were talking about Motorola’s CEO conference call in which he spilled out the beans on a so called Windows Mobile 6.5. Well Ballmer has just confirmed that those beans exists and we’re actually anxious to see a phone working one Windows Mobile 6.5.

The new mobile OS will arrive sometime next year. I hope the 6.5 version will keep us busy until number 7 will hit.

Windows Mobile 7 Delayed to Mid 2009

    wm7leakold
The mobile space now has a couple of major players, what with Apple and Google entering the fray with their respective platforms. Microsoft may be losing relevance in the market, and the greatly delayed release of Windows Mobile 7 isn’t helping things either.

CNET reports that the company has informed some of its partners that it has had to delay the mobile operating system to the second half of next year. It was previously expected early next year.

The current version – WinMo 6.1 – has become so outdated that companies like HTC and Sony Ericsson are having to patch things up to release devices powered by it.

WinMo7 is said to be a dramatic improvement over the current version, featuring advanced gesture recognition, among other things.

Microsoft is working on their next mobile OS, Windows Mobile 7 which is supposed to hit some time next year. And guess what else is Microsoft working on? An application market like Apple’s App Store will be developed. Skymarket will have the same purpose. Users will be able to download applications for their Windows Mobile device.

So what say you Apple and iPhone haters? Did their stupid App Store inspire Android Market and Microsoft’s future Skymarket or what?
