In case you’re waiting for Sony Ericsson to offer you a Windows Mobile 6.5 update for your Xperia X1 then you’d be better off actually buying a new Windows Mobile 6.5 phone. Sony Ericsson will not officially support Windows Mobile 6.5 on the Xperia X1. Sure you can find a way of installing Microsoft’s latest mobile OS but that doesn’t mean Sony Ericsson will help you through the process.

I don’t think that this strategy will work in favor of Sony Ericsson. In fact some people will choose to ditch the Xperia X1 and get a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone from the competition. What do you say folks?

  • Those of you still playing with a Windows Mobile handset will be happy to know that Microsoft has decided to upgrade its Windows Mobile Marketplace. Starting today the store can be accessed from any browser not only from your mobile browser.

Other updates include enhanced security and anti-piracy measures not that we care too much about those. But the fact that the Marketplace can now be accessible from any browser and that apps can be downloaded a lot easier straight on your PC right now is definitely great news. Here’s what the official blog had to say about the new Marketplace:

While we’ve heard great feedback on the Marketplace experience on Windows phones, sometimes people just want the benefits of a shopping on a PC. Starting today, Windows phone customers can browse, buy and download applications online at the Windows Marketplace for Mobile site. The selected applications are delivered wirelessly to the customer’s Windows phone and install the next time the Windows Marketplace client runs on the device. This creates another way for customers to easily find and purchase applications and gives developers a whole new level of exposure.

How would you describe your Marketplace experience so far?

The Omnia II features Windows Mobile 6.5, a 3.7-inch touchscreen, 5mp camera, WiFi, GPS and 7.2Mbps UMTS/HSPA.

Unfortunately a release date and price have yet to be announced but we’ll keep you posted.

If you didn’t know, Microsoft is planning to launch an update for Windows Mobile 6.5 that will update the operating system to 6.5.1. Why exactly they didn’t include this major overhaul in the 6.5 release is beyond me but what we have for you above is some eyecandy showing off the new mobile OS’ features.

As you can see, Windows Mobile 6.5.1 will clearly make it easier for the average user to operate the software using nothing more than their fingers with previous versions of Windows Mobile catering more towards a stylus.

When will 6.5.1 be out? We’ll have to wait until Microsoft says anything more to make any guesses.

  • What you see above is reportedly a comparison between Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7 with 6.5 on the top, and 7 on the bottom.

As you can see, even though Windows Mobile 6.5 has just hit the scene Windows Mobile 7 makes it look extremely dated. However, this is to be expected considering Windows Mobile 7 is a complete remake of the operating system as opposed to just an update as 6.5 was.

Windows Mobile 6.5 has just been officially announced and Microsoft is already cooking up updates. We knew well ahead of the actual roll out that the new Microsoft mobile OS was not as impressive as people wished for it to be. After all, even Microsoft is looking forward to Windows Mobile 7, so why should we bother ourselves with Windows Mobile 6.5 in the mean time?

Windows Mobile 6.5 is not exactly a disappointment but it’s a mobile OS that needs more work. That’s why Microsoft has come up with Windows Mobile 6.5.1. The update isn’t official yet but you can find it on various forums already. The update is supposed to tweak the UI and make it more touch-friendly in order to improve your overall Windows Mobile 6.5 experience. In case your Windows Phone plays nice and you’re not having any problems dealing with menus or any other features of the user interface then maybe you don’t need this update after all. Microsoft is planning to launch Windows Mobile 6.5.1 in January 2010 only, which gives you plenty of time to discover any bugs that could use some sort of fixing.

So how do you find Windows Mobile 6.5 so far?

  • HTC Tilt 2 Available Now from AT&T

In case you don’t want a new Android phone and you’re rather interested in a new Windows Mobile 6.5 phone then you should go to an AT&T store today. The HTC Tilt 2 is now available for sale. The Tilt 2 will be available for $349.99 with a $50 mail-in rebate and a new 2-year contract. The phone is just a little more expensive than the CLIQ but it does have some interesting features that can’t be ignored: WVGA touchscreen display, full slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 3.2-megapixel camera and Microsoft latest mobile OS running in the background. So what do you say folks? Are you ready to purchase your first Windows Mobile 6.5 phone? Or would you rather wait a while longer until the HTC HD2 becomes available?

  • The HTC Touch Pro2 and the HTC Snap are among the first smartphones out there that will be upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5. We have been aware of all this for a few months but it’s only now that we are able to confirm it. Both phones are upgradeable, at least in theory, to Windows Mobile 6.5. However, depending on where you purchased your Touch Pro2 or Snap phone from, you might not be able to use the upgrade yet. Minor things like carrier branding or phone locking could prevent you from getting the much needed upgrade right now. If that happens then go ahead and complain to customer service about it. You should definitely be able to enjoy Windows Mobile 6.5 no matter what carrier sold you the Touch Pro2 or the Snap. After all, that’s why you purchased these phones in the first place, right?

Take a gander at this new Windows Phone ad that has been going around. Yes, it is disturbing to see gigantic humanoid versions of apps in this poor guy’s home, and I’m certain that if I saw those, I would run from my home screaming. The last thing I would be doing is holding up my Windows enabled Mobile phone and have them jubilantly come with me.

Yes, it is disturbing and confusing. Many have pointed out that there really isn’t a Windows phone, but a phone that supports Windows. The fact that it has the HTC Pure label on it is adding a little more confusion to the mix.

Toshiba is planning to launch a bunch of new phones Windows Mobile 6.5 in the near future. After we’ve seen the TG01, one of the most interesting phones launched this year, we definitely want to see what new phones Toshiba will imagine next.

The K01 is supposed to be a QWERTY slider smartphone that will offer you a 4.1-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 1GHz processor and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

The K02 is a clamshell phone that will come with an internal 3.5-inch resistive touchscreen, a secondary, external LCD and a full QWERTY keyboard on the inside.

The L01 is more of a tablet-like device. It will come with a 7-inch touchscreen but there are not that many details about it. The L01 and K01 will be unveiled by the end of the year while the K02 will only be revealed sometime next year.

  • Microsoft has today released the above Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade guide letting users with Windows Mobile handsets know if they can or can’t upgrade their device.

As you can see, those with a Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 are outta’ luck as there will be no 6.5 upgrade for them. Those with a Windows Mobile 6.1 phone aren’t in a much better boat as only some devices with 6.1 will be able to get an upgrade.

So in conclusion, if you have a Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6.0 cell phone you cannot upgrade to 6.5 and if you have a Windows Mobile 6.1 device you might be able to upgrade if it is available.

  • Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5

Microsoft has launched today a new version of their operative system also known as Windows Mobile 6.5. This latest version will be launched with a couple of devices, such as the Ozone, Samsung Intrepid, Imagio, and the HTC Pure.

In terms of new features there is a premium package made for the people that tend to lose their cellphones a lot of times, it comes with a few interesting details such as locating it via GPS; deleting all the personal data; displaying a “if found” message on the screen; and make it ring loudly (even if in silent mode). The Marketplace for Windows Phones is another addition that many people will enjoy, because it gives the chance to buy applications made by registered developers. Lastly the Microsoft My Phone service is dedicated for backups.

About a month ago we told you that the HTC Tilt 2 would be made available for AT&T on October 6th. Well, it seems that BGR dug up some dirt on the phone and have found out that it will in fact be shipping on October 8th.

So, those of you who are looking to access that newly launched Windows 6.5 Marketplace you now have another option to choose from. Of course you’re going to have to wait until Q3 when AT&T pushes out that free Windows Mobile 6.1 - 6.5 update.

  • HTC Touch HD2 specs released

Rumors of the HTC Touch HD2 have been floating around for some time now but they have been more focused on the software side of things and not what we can expect to see under the hood.

Today, further rumors have surfaced that give us a look at the specs which are a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, 7.2Mbps HSPA, a 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen, FM radio, 5MP camera, Bluetooth 2.1, and a 3.5mm audio out jack.

Unfortunately, there aren’t any solid dates for when we will be seeing the HTC Touch HD2 but rumor has it we will be seeing the device hit T-Mobile UK at some point in the non-too-distant future.

  • Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s App Store wasn’t schedule to go live until tomorrow October 6th but it seems that the guys over at Redmond have jumped the gun launching the Marketplace today, one day early.

Make note that the only phone currently available that is able to access the Marketplace is the HTC manufactured AT&T Pure which runs Windows Mobile 6.5. Everything else, you’re going to have to wait until the coming weeks where more Windows Mobile 6.5 powered phones are expected to be released.

Sony is really riding the wave on its brand new PS3 Slim. The game console is selling like hot cakes all over the place so it’s no wonder that a 250GB PS3 Slim model has also been developed. The bigger model has apparently arrived in stores and retailers are waiting to sell it to the angry mobs gathering in front of their stores. Ok, maybe there’s nobody lining up to get this model yet as the 250GB PS3 Slim should officially be available starting with October 6. But then again, there’s at least one store that’s selling those boxes in the picture here.

On a different note it looks like October 6 is a day when everyone wants to get noticed. It is definitely not going to be a day dedicated to Microsoft related events like the big Windows Mobile 6.5 launch after all as both Sony and Motorola have apparently big plans scheduled on the very same date. So what will you do on October 6? Follow Microsoft’s launch, grab a 250GB PS3 from Sony or attend Motorola’s MOTODEV event?

    AT&T Pure Available for Sale?

What do you know folks, it looks like AT&T has quietly decided to start selling the Pure with a couple of days to go before Windows Mobile 6.5 goes official. In case you forgot the Pure is HTC’s Touch Diamond2, one of the first phones announced to run Microsoft’s latest mobile OS. Notice the date on the phone in the picture here and feel free to run to your closest AT&T store to get it. Of course, you could always reconsider and wait for a different Windows Mobile 6.5 to arrive. I hear there are 30 phones ready to run the OS by the end of the year?
