  • iPhone 3G S Out of Stock!

As far as Apple is concerned, running out of stock as far as the new iPhone 3G S is not really surprising. Reviewed and seen to be ransacked by people aching to have the new version iPhone, the new device follows the footsteps during the Summer of 2008 where the iPhone 3G ran out of stock as well. Now, a widget has been released, the iPhone availability widget, which was last seen and used during that Summer which should guide aspiring iPhone 3G S buyers when and where to get one.

The shortages are all over the lot, but Apple seems to be having a particularly hard time meeting demand for the entry-level white iPhone 3GS. In Texas, the 16GB model is sold out in all but three of the state’s 15 Apple Stores. It’s not clear whether demand for that model is unusually high or if Apple just isn’t making enough of them.

Well, of the two claims, it seems that the demand for the new iPhone 3G S seems sensible enough to believe. Apple under-producing the iPhone? Highly unlikely. Besides, if there was a conservative number of iPhones produced this time around, you really cannot blame them. With the hard times upon us, Apple is making sure that they are making the right numbers as far as production is concerned. Also, doesn’t that sound like a great marketing gimmick? Running out of stocks due to demand?

  • Associated Press Goes Mobile

Associated Press timed it perfectly as it has announced the availability of the AP Mobile News widgets, preloaded or made available for download on the new Nokia N97 mobile. For the record, the N97 starts shipping today.

Similar to online browsing, Associated Press presents an easier way of getting the latest news and photos right on your mobile phone. Consumers can scroll through stories and AP photo galleries as well as watch AP videos. The widget is available in English, French, Spanish and German languages.

“With just a single icon on their touch screen, we are giving Nokia N97 users access to multimedia versions of their world, national and local news,” said Jeff Litvack, AP’s general manager of mobile and emerging products. “One year ago, when we launched AP Mobile, our goal was to be the news button on the most popular smartphones. Having our AP news widget preloaded on the Nokia N97 is a fantastic start.”

The rollout of the Nokia N97 follows the May 26 launch of Ovi Store by Nokia, where AP News, www.apnews.com, was the No. 1 U.S. mobile news app for the opening.

Musician are expected to benefit a lot from this new app available for the iPhone. iLike, the leading social music discovery service, today announced a suite of new features for musicians, including integration with Twitter, YouTube, and MySpace, as well as a turnkey system for any artist to quickly create and distribute their own custom iPhone app.

These integrations expand on iLike’s existing syndication model and enable more than 300,000 artists who use the iLike Artist Dashboard to save time and reach more fans via these new channels.

The new content syndication destinations announced today, described in detail at www.iLike.com/manage, include:

    • Twitter: Artists can now link their iLike and Twitter accounts, bringing their “tweets” to more fans via the iLike music feed, the artist’s iLike profile, and the artist’s page on Facebook. Likewise, when an artist posts a new song, video, or concert listing, iLike will notify fans via Twitter.
    • YouTube: Artists can now sync their YouTube channel and iLike account. Every video an artist posts to iLike will be automatically posted to their YouTube channel, and vice versa.
    • MySpace Concert Listings: iLike now lets artists enhance the concert listings on their MySpace pages, via a widget that adds prominent buy-links and allows fans to “RSVP” to a concert and see who else is going. Artists can also configure their iLike Artist Dashboard so that any blog, bulletin, or video they post at iLike is also posted on their MySpace page.
    • Facebook Pages “Music” Tab: Artists can now add the Music tab to their Page on Facebook. The Music tab, by iLike, features the artist’s songs, concerts, videos, bulletins, blogs, and tweets.
    • Artist dot-com Websites: The iLike Artist Dashboard now allows artists to manage the content on their own official dot-com websites via embeddable javaScript widgets.
    • Ticketmaster: Songs, photos, and videos posted to the iLike Dashboard will also appear on the artist’s page on Ticketmaster.
    • Artist iPhone Apps: iLike today announced a turnkey system to enable any artist to rapidly create and distribute their own iPhone app featuring the artist’s concert dates, photos, blogs, bulletins, and videos. A self-service system allows artists to customize the look and feel of their app and submit it to the iTunes App Store.

In addition, iLike continues to syndicate artist content to more than 45 million music fans across the iLike network, including iLike’s leading music applications on iGoogle, Facebook, hi5, Bebo, Orkut, and iLike plugins for iTunes and Windows Media Player.

When it comes to logging on to social networking sites like Facebook, subscribers just seem to want to log on and showcase images and some excerpts according to them. When they are away from their PC, the nearest device to use is the mobile phone on a limited capacity. But not anymore!

GoTV Networks, Inc., the industry’s largest mobile media network, today announced the launch of LiveFromYou, a new personal media application for mobile phones and social networks.

LiveFromYou is a mobile and web product that enables users to share the stories of their lives in pictures, videos and words with friends and family on their social network page. LiveFromYou automatically organizes pictures, videos, and other media for easy and instant sharing via an application widget loaded onto a user’s Facebook or MySpace page.

LiveFromYou curates and organizes media, whether it is currently present on the user’s social network page or ready to upload from a collection stored on a desktop PC, digital camera or mobile phone. Media is automatically presented in chronological order, either individually or grouped in user-defined albums on the innovative LiveFromYou timeline. When geo-code data is present, the media items or albums are also viewable on a map.

LiveFromYou is now available for Facebook and MySpace. In one easy process users can load the application to their personal page. The LiveFromYou application widget automatically imports the media from a user’s social network profile.

    Key Features:

    • Multimedia Sharing
    • Easy Access
    • Instant Media Uploads
    • Map/Geo Tracking

It looks like Acer is looking beyond the standards Windows platform for its smartphones. Acer is planning to produce smartphones running on platforms besides Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS by the end of the year, the company confirmed.

Acer representatives in Taipei, Taiwan, confirmed that they will launch handsets running on alternative platforms before the year is out, but declined to say which operating systems the phones would use. When Acer launched their lineup of smartphones at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, company officials hinted that Acer was thinking of launching phones using Google’s Android platform.

All of Acer’s phones run on a widget-based version of Windows Mobile 6.1. Acer has said it plans on releasing phones later this year, most likely in the third or fourth quarter, running on Windows Mobile 6.5.
