Sanwa’s waterproof iPhone case

Sure we’ve seen the iPhone 3GS take a plunge all the way to the bottom of a pool and still work perfectly but it’s probably not the smartest idea to bank on that case. Luckily, for those who want to get their iPhones wet, without actually getting them them wet, Sanwa has recently launched a waterproof case.

As you can see above, the device can be completely submerged in water using this case without any worries of water damage. Features include a clear screen for touchscreen access and a 3.5mm jack for use with waterproof headphones.

Want one? You can pick it up now for around $34.

LG GD900 Swims with the Fishes

When we say that the LG GD900 Crystal is swimming with the fishes we don’t mean that the phone has been discontinued all of a sudden. We mean that the Crystal is literally swimming with some fishes in a glass in the video above. That’s right, this new LG phone which you will remember for its crystal clear slide-out keypad likes water. In case you have also purchased the device, keep in mind that the phone in the video above has a custom-made waterproof case. In other words your regular GD900 won’t swim with the fishes more than once, if you catch my drift. So don’t try to use your LG GD900 to take amazing pictures of the reef!

  • Nokia 3720 Classic

Nokia has officially announced the 3720 Classic. As we have already seen last week this phone can handle quite a lot. It is waterproof, dustproof and shock resistant. The 3720 is made of very durable materials and the interior is sealed tight so nothing can interfere with the electronics inside.

Markku Suomi, vice president, Connect devices said:

Whether using it at the beach or in a dusty construction site, the Nokia 3720 classic has been specifically engineered to withstand the splashes, bumps and drops that come with the terrain. While the Nokia 3720 classic is tough on the outside, it is equally functional on the inside - a perfect choice for people who want a long-lasting and reliable mobile phone for any environment.

The phone will come with less than remarkable features like a 2.2-inch display, a 2-megapixel camera, a 1GB microSD card, preloaded Nokia Maps, a long-lasting battery and a LED flashlight. But then again this phone is made to withstand outrageous conditions so smartphone-like features will not be found in the 3720 Classic.

The phone will be available for around $175 when it will begin shipping this summer. That’s the full, unsubsidized price so you will probably get it for a lot less.

  • Nokia 3720 Likes Beer

We have already told you that Nokia’s 3720 is a more than resistant phone. It’s waterproof and dustproof and it will surely withstand a few shocks. And as you can see in the picture above it has no problem dealing with bear too. The 3720 likes beer and will pass any testing after being sunk in a pint. Sure it will not be able to walk in a straight line, although it probably would if it had any feet, but it will keep doing its business. The phone will come in September but we still have no idea how much it will cost. What we do have is a specs list for you:

    • Water and dust resistant (IP54 certificate)
    • Battery life: over 2.5 weeks standby time
    • FM radio
    • Integrated flashlight
    • S40 OS
    • 2.2-inch QVGA display, 16M colors
    • 25MB internal memory
    • MicroSD card slot
    • Bluetooth
    • 3.2 megapixel camera

How much would you pay for the 3720?

  • We’ve seen yesterday that the Nokia N97 is not exactly a waterproof phone although it can deal pretty good with water. If you want a waterproof phone you should wait for Nokia’s first, the 3720 which is coming out this September. The phone is dustproof too which makes it suitable for almost any environment. And if you’re wondering the 3720 is shock resistant too so you can go ahead and drop it anywhere and it survive easily. We don’t have any specs and pricing details just yet but we’re not expecting this 3720 to surprise us with smartphone features.

Is Nokia N97 Waterproof or Not?

This is exactly the kind of experiment we wouldn’t encourage anyone to try at home. Especially with a hot new gadget like the Nokia N97. Better let others do it and just watch the result. That’s exactly what the guys at N97Geeks.com did and the N97 somehow survived. The screen seems to be working although it still has water underneath it 2.5 hours after the water immersion.

The Nokia N97 is not officially waterproof but it can handle it pretty well if you let it dry properly. Just make sure you only drop it in water by mistake and you should be fine. And if you’re purchasing a $700 phone you might consider some insurance plan for it.

  • Freestyle is a rather unknown manufacturer of MP3 players, but they have released a waterproof device entitled Soundwave. The audio player can go under water with a maximum limit of 10 feet, and if anything bad happens it will float to the surface.

In addition to the protection against water, Soundwave is also shock resistant and has a combination of design + materials used that can make it last (almost) forever. With a flash memory of 2GB, it can hold approximately 600 songs be it MP3 or WMA files.

Soundwave can be used as a storage device instead of only being a MP3 player, and is compatible with computers and Macs. The extras include almost everything, from subscription music services to FM radio, and a battery of 18 hours playing music non-stop.

  • Fujitsu F705i Phone

    Fujitsu-FOMA-F705i.jpg

The Fujitsu F705i tries to proves beyond a doubt that “waterproof” and “slim” is a good combination. It is the latest in its “FOMA i series” of waterproof phones headed to NTT DoCoMo conforming to IPX5 and IPX7 waterproof standards and measures a scrawny 13.7 mm. Waterproof up to 30 minutes at 1 meter depth, this phone features a 1.3-megapixel camera, Super Clear Voice and Super Clear Mic for in-call adjustment of volume to surrounding sounds, a 2.7-inch QVGA LCD screen, and Quick Zoom for increased visual accessibility. This cell phone also has another notable feature, which is a buzzer that can be set off in case of an emergency alerting people in the proximity.

The Fujitsu F705i will be available in three colors of snow white, dark blue, and light pink, although my Japanese doesn’t permit me enough to say when.
