You have to admit it, the video above is a work of art. Sure it’s a commercial / viral video made by Vodafone NZ but it’s still amazing. This Symphonia experiment uses 1000 cellphones that are syncing 53 different ringtone alerts from 2000 sent messages. The final result is the 1812 overture from Tchaikovsky which makes this endeavor all the more interesting.

In case you loved the whole show then you can go ahead and download it from Vodafone New Zealand’s by following the link below. You can get the full track of Symphonia but you can also get the 53 ringtones used to create the overture. Although we do advise you not to try to recreate the experiment at home if you don’t have 1,000 phones yet.

Are you looking for an unlocked HTC HD2 already? The phone will be out in Europe in the following months. First O2 will launch it in the UK this month while Vodafone will launch it in Spain in December. U.S. customers are only going to get it at some point in the first quarter of the next year but that doesn’t mean you have to be waiting that long to get it.

The HD2 will be also available off contract starting with November 11. The unlocked phone will sell for around $740 in the U.K. which is not a bad price considering what the HD2 can do.

Yes, you can purchase the phone and use it in the USA but you will have to settle for EDGE connectivity only. The unlocked HD2 will not be able to offer 3G connectivity if you decide to use it in the USA. Therefore, if you want a 3G HTC HD2 you’ll have to wait until 2010 to purchase one.

  • Don’t look so surprised by that number! Windows Mobile 6.5 is coming and it looks like there are quite a few phone makers ready to roll phone capable or running Microsoft’s newest OS. And while we’re definitely thrilled to see that concept tablet, the Courier already, we can’t say we’re similarly interested in Windows Mobile 6.5. The OS is clearly a transition platform from the old Windows Mobile 6 to the future Windows Mobile 7.

Nonetheless manufacturers out there are ready to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 phones! Those 30 new handsets capable of running Microsoft latest OS will be made by HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Acer, Toshiba and HP. The phones will be released by the end of the year and we know a few carriers are definitely interested: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo, Softbank Mobile, SKT, Telestra and Telus.

Will you buy a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone?

Vodafone has added yet another label to their music download service which is DRM-free, and this time we’re talking about Warner music. In case you don’t remember, Vodafone already has agreements with Sony Music, EMI, and Universal Music Group.

Thanks to this addition, the number of DRM-free tracks that can be downloaded via the Vodafone service passes the 1 million mark. On top of “normal” music tracks, Vodafone and Warner will work together to bring more material, like multimedia content and others.

    Vodafone representative comments:

The response to the DRM-free offering in all the markets where it has launched has been incredibly enthusiastic. Our customers love music and they love the flexibility that DRM-free on mobile gives them.

  • That’s right folks, the phone in the picture here is LG’s first Android phone. The Etna has been spotted in Germany at the IFA trade show so we can already take a look at it. The phone will offer you a generous 3-inch touchscreen display, a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera and Bluetooth connectivity. From the looks of it the phone will be available in Europe from Vodafone but we don’t have any availability dates yet. We’ll be waiting for LG to properly launch it and reveal all the hot details about it. It’s too early to choose but what do you like best? The HTC Hero or the LG Etna?

  • Vodafone is ready to up the ante when it comes to mobile broadband. The company will launch a new 14.4 Megabit mobile broadband service in the UK which is quite impressive, at least on paper. What that means for the average consumer is that the probable top speed will be somewhere around 10.8Mbps while the usual speed will average between 1Mbps to 4Mbps. The major cities and surrounding areas will be among the first to receive the new service although nationwide 14.4Mbps has been mentioned.

Are you waiting for that new BlackBerry Storm 2 smartphone? Well we have some updates on that Berry although there’s nothing official just yet. It seems that the 9550 is the phone that’s going to be called the Storm 2. Here’s what we can expect from the 9550:

Nokia N97 Mini on Its Way Soon?

We heard earlier this week that Vodafone Ireland could sell a different N97 version dubbed as the Mini. The phone should be cheaper than the already launched N97 and you can expect it not to have the same cool features. That means a smaller screen, less memory, slower processor. But we can’t guarantee any of that since Nokia isn’t telling us anything yet. The Mini will arrive later this year and should match the current prices of T-Mobile’s G1. Vodafone hasn’t denied the rumor which means there’s a chance for Nokia to actually launch the Mini soon. The Irish Times is saying that “O2, Meteor and 3 Ireland all said they intend to sell the N97 but none was able to provide a launch date or expected pricing.”

What would you choose between the N97 and the Mini version? How much would you be willing to pay for it?

Well folks I’d hate to be an Italian customer walking in a Vodafone shop for a new iPhone 3G S. People say that the iPhone 3G S will be really expensive and we can expect prices of 719 Euros for the 32GB version and 619 Euros for the 16GB version. The prices are incredibly high and we can only assume they will apply to customers not qualifying for a subsidized price. We’re expecting Vodafone to come clean and announce the subsidized prices soon.

We all love a good rumor from time to time and we have stumbled across quite a few Vodafone-related rumors for you. First off it seems that there’s a Nokia N97 Mini which will be launched by Vodafone sometime soon. The Mini version should be cheaper but the truth is that there’s no official news yet about such a phone.

Besides the N97 Mini, Vodafone is said to also sell the BlackBErry Storm 2 later this year and as for the Palm Pre it seems that a different carrier will pick this phone up exclusively.

The Samsung Jet was officially unveiled yesterday and it has already made an impression with Vodafone. The carrier will sell the Jet in the UK and those of you opting for a new two-year plan of at least £20 per month will get the phone for free. In case you already forgot or got your facts wrong, the Jet will offer you a 800MHz powerful processor which you will surely find a way to put to good use.

June 19 will not only bring lucky customers the iPhone 3GS and the Nokia N86 but also Nokia’s flagship phone the N97. That’s all happening in the UK and while no U.S. carrier is going to sell the the N97 for a subsidized price, Vodafone will do just that in the UK. The phone is available for pre-order and Vodafone is prepared to offer a free set of speakers worth £25 for every N97 and if you get the phone online then you get extra minutes which is certainly a good incentive. The phone will cost you £150 if purchased with a less than £40/month 2-year plan and it will be available free of charge if you’re going to get it with a £40/month (or higher) contract.

  • In case you are not familiar with the term EOL well then we’ll explain. EOL means End of Life and that’s what Brighthand, Vodafone’s 16GB iPhone 3G provider, uses to currently classified the phone.

A leaked email confirms the story and it looks like Brighthand will have only a few weeks stock available. Should we understand from all of this that Apple will indeed launch the new phone on June 8 at the WWDC? Other signs also point to an iPhone release on June 8 although there are those rumors saying that Apple is prepping a special July event dedicated to the new iPhone.
