All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Want to remember the King of Pop every time you pull out your handset? Well then you should check out the ridiculously flashy limited edition Michael Jackson handset featured above.

We don’t have very many details as to what this phone is or the specs but we do know that it looks a little too much like one of Vertu’s handsets.

No idea if this will ever make it out of China but we have a hunch it won’t.

  • Despite their high price, Vertu continues to pump out luxury handsets to a market of very, very rich people. Their latest handset is the Vertu Constellation Axyta which was first announced just a few days ago as coming to the European market.

Today, the same phone has made its way through the FCC and is expected to be released in North America sometime in the near future for $10,500.

Features you ask? It probably costs just about as much as your car, that enough for you?

We got more than a blurry picture this time and a proper name too.  The Constellation F we reported on a few days is actually the Ayxta, which will be the first clamshell from the Hampshire, UK-based Nokia subsidiary.  The handset features two new services that might become regulars on future Vertu phones, the Concierge and Select City Brief services.  The Concierge gives the elite customer a direct line to a customer care rep who can address any questions or demands that are put forward, with just a single button press; the Select City Brief, on the other hand, uses the onboard GPS (?) to automatically change time to the local timezone and get the lowdown on the happening places in the vicinity.  Both these features are something we can live without and as for some real specs, the Constellation Ayxta features 3G support, a 3-megapixel camera with integrated flash, and microSD support for up to 8GB.  Available in Europe starting at $7000 apiece, which is actually lesser than some of the other Constellation handsets, but still high enough to boost a rich man’s ego.

  • We have little to go on other than a blurry picture of what is purported to be the first ever Vertu clamshell, but according to mobil.cz, the Constellation F is getting more than just a change in the form factor.  The Constellation F will also be the first Vertu handset to boast of a GPS, and will play a very expensive abode to features such as a 2.4-inch HVGA internal display, global GSM/EDGE/HSPA network support, 8GB of storage to house pictures snapped with its 3-megapixel camera, and of course, like all other previous Vertu’s in its Constellation series, it will be made of steel, leather, and ceramics.  No details on a release were available and as far as the price goes, it’s a Vertu! Need we say more?

  • It seems that Vertu isn’t the only one targeting the extremely rich/extremely luxurious crowd as Motorola too has an offering: the Ivory E18, pictured above.

Before the development of the Ivory E18 was called off, it was said to feature a 3MP and a slider with 2 positions, one for just the navigation buttons and one for the full keypad.

As for a price, well, Motorola took a hint from Vertu there too as it was estimated to be close to $3,000. This high price caused with lack of carrier interest led to the phones demise. Does anyone actually buy these?

Vertu has announced yet another luxury handset this time entitled the Ascent Ti.

The Ascent Ti’s body is made almost entirely out of carbon fiber, a material that has been known for being ridiculously strong while maintaining a low weight. While the press release doesn’t state much we’ll just assume that it has the same features of the Ascent Ti that made its way through the FCC over two years ago: a 3MP camera with 8x digital zoom, and Bluetooth.

You didn’t think this handset would be cheap, did you? Good, because Vertu has said it will be available next month with “prices available upon request”. AKA, none of us will be able to afford it.

Sure, carbon fiber matched with lack-luster features is cool and all, but does it have an App Store?

If what you needed was a new expensive phone, then we have just the thing for you. Vertu has launched the new Constellation Pure series. The phone won’t surprise you with its specs but it will make an impression on all your other rich friends that don’t have one. It’s made from steel, leather and ceramics and it will be available in white, black and silver. Vertu will only make 2,500 of each so you should make sure you are one of the first 7,500 people to order if you really want a Constellation Pure device.

    Vertu Ferrari Collection

    Vertu Ascent Ti Ferrari Rosso

    Vertu Ascent Ti Ferrari Rosso

High-end cell phone manufacturer Vertu recently announced three new editions to its Ferrari collection of mobile phones. “Reflecting the exclusivity, elegance and performance of the best supercars, the Vertu Ascent Ti Ferrari Nero” The 2009 limited edition handset is covered in black leather. The other two phones being launched – the Vertu Ascent Ti Ferrari Rosso and the Giallo–will be crafted in vibrant red and yellow.

The battery cover mirrors the distinctive bonnet detailing and on the handsets, the sides of the Ascent Ti are sculpted to reflect the louvers, found on various Ferrari cars. The limited edition collection will also feature sounds that were recorded from the engine of a Ferrari F430 and a 612 Scaglietti. The current line of Vertu Ferrari phones have an entry level retail price of just under $300 but can cost thousands depending on the features and the materials used.

  • From all the Vertu cellphones that we have reported, including the Nautilus Concept and the Ascent Ti Constellation Rococo, the Vertu Boucheron is the most strange and expensive one. Codenamed Boucheron 150, the handset is made of solid gold and has a wooden case.

To make it stylysh with strange angles and corners, the following tasks had to be performed:

    - 1,000 hours to shape
    - 700 hours to polish
    - 500 hours to build

Everything was done by hand and that is why it probably costs so much, approximately $30,000.

  • Vertu and Ferrari cellphone

It is not the first time that Vertu presents special editions of handsets, like the Rococo, but this time they joined forces with Ferrari to create a deluxe cellphone.

Also known as the Ascent Ti collection, the special & limited editions include Nero, Rosso, and Giallo. When said out loud, you could relate the names of the cellphones to soccer players, but that is just the Italian style. Thanks to the

In terms of specifications, this is what the Vertu + Ferrari phone has to offer: life battery of 5 hours in talking-mode, or 300 hours in stand-by mode, 3-megapixel camera, 4GB of internal memory to store all those photos and recorded videos, bluetooth, and being a quad-band handset (GSM/EDGE) with WCDMA 2100.

  • Vertu Nautilus Concept Phone

After creating three different Nokia concept phones, Austrian designer Tobias Hornof decided to try his creative hand at Nokia’s elite Vertu line. This new concept called the Vertu Nautilus takes more than just a page from the classic, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, and looks classy enough to join the Vertu ranks. The back is also reminiscent of something that belongs in the ocean, like a submarine’s outer shell with its rivets. We think it’s alright but will Nokia think the Nautilus has what it takes to become a reality?

  • Oh my, but what do we have here today? It looks like the FCC has a chic phone to analyze. The Vertu Signature S Design is the new model from Nokia’s luxury division. Well then go ahead and tell your boss you found out the next Vertu is available. I’m sure he is too busy to read these lines, but he’s probably definitely interested in the device.

The new phone might just have a little bit of this and a little bit of that. 3G is there via HSDPA, quad band EDGE and WiFi. Can you imagine that? It’s definitely a first from Vertu handsets. How much will it cost? We’re probably going to find out soon! (more…)

  • Nokia has finally updated what stood as an icon for money and luxury until now with a few improvements that should have CEOs and fat-walleted friends that you know all excited. But 3G is not the only improvement this richboy toy is getting as WiFi is onboard too with a few changes in its outward design. We know specs don’t matter if you are fixated on buying it, but for us less mortals, the Vertu Signature has a QVGA OLED display of 320×240 pixels with 16 million colors, Bluetooth, WAP 2.0 browser, email support, and VoIP. It also has a SIM tray allowing for easy swapping between your work and personal SIM cards with support for WCDMA dual-band 2100/850 MHz and GSM quad-band 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies. We don’t know when Nokia will decide to spit this out and for how much, but I for one will add this to my steadily growing list of cell phones I can’t afford.
