  • I bet nobody in Redmond expected this but Sony has decided to adopt Google’s Chrome as the default browser for its future Vaio line. Google and Sony have reached an agreement according to which future desktops and laptops will come with Google Chrome on board. The browser will point to Google for homepage and search queries but I guess that was more than logical wasn’t it? Google will probably approach other manufacturers soon which isn’t such a bad thing after all. This move will surely annoy Microsoft on one hand and all the other developers in the Internet browsing business which will only lead to improved browsing solutions in the near future. What browser do you currently use?

We’ve seen several touchscreen offerings from PC-makers far-and-wide who utilize the updated capabilities of Windows 7, but never from Sony.

That’s soon to chance as a Sony exec was recently quoted to say that there would be touchscreen Vaio laptops close to or on Windows 7’s release date (October 22nd). To avoid confusion, what is pictured above is not one of the touch-screen laptops but one of Sony’s other offerings.

That’s not all though as Sony reportedly hopes to allow their Vaios to download content from the PS3’s Playstation Network. If this is true it would include movies, TV shows and potentially even games.

In case you are waiting for possibly one of the most expensive netbooks to date, the Sony Vaio P, then we have some more details and pictures ready for you.

The Vaio P is the first netbook from Sony which will feature an Atom Z250 processor running at 1.33GHz, 2GB of RAM, an HDD with SSD upgrade availability, UMTS connectivity and GPS. We’re probably going to have even more specs to analyze when they become officially public. The price is of course as high as you would expect it to be. The Vaio P will be available for about $970 so I advise you to think twice before actually purchasing it.

  • We already know that Sony has a new Vaio ready to be launched. After Sony’s New Zealand teaser site, the Japanese version came up with a new teaser that has Vaio New mobile written all over it. This teaser shows you a woman with a think envelope. Inside there should be the netbook we’re waiting for. Unfortunately the envelop reveals only a link to a sign up page for more information. January 9th is still the date Sony has marked in it’s calendar for revealing the new Vaio.

  • Not exactly the most portable devices, all-in-one PCs come in handy. They will save you some desk space and they will always be ready to go. Sony has launched three new all-in-one Vaio PCs which we’re going to inspect.

The Vaio JS, in the picture above, is a huge desktop. It has a 20.1 inch screen which has a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution. There’s a webcam above the screen and a speaker bar below. The Vaio JS has a 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo E8400 processor, 4GB of RAM, an integrated Intel GMA 4500HD graphics card, a 500GB and a standard DVD burner. The PC will cost around $1,000 if you’re interested.

The Vaio LS has a floating mirror design which resembles the Vaio LT19U. It has a 24 inch display which can deliver a 1,920 x 1,200 resolution. Inside you will find either Blu-ray or regular drives, up to 1TB of hard drive space, and an HDMI input. Pricing starts at $1,600 depending on what you choose.

The last PC is Sony’s Vaio RT. It’s an even bigger model. It has a 25.5 inch LCD and inside it has an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, up to 8GB of RAM, a 512MB GeForce 9600M GT graphics card and up to 1TB hard drive. A Blu-ray drive comes as standard and the RT has a pair of TV tuners and both HDMI in and out.

  • Sony went ahead and launched their new Vaio laptops on Monday evening as we’ve told you before. And they are all special notebooks. The four new Vaio notebooks are the 16.4 inch Vaio FW, the 15.4-inch Vaio BZ the 13.3 inch Vaio SR, and the 13.1 inch Vaio Z. Let’s take a brief look at these Centrino 2 powered new Vaio lines.

The Vaio FW is a 16.4 inch laptop. Weird size you say? We might see it more often. This screen size will get you that 16:9 aspect ratio for HD Blu-ray content. This laptop weighs a little over 6 pounds which is quite remarkable given the bigger screen. The FW will be available later in July with prices starting from $1,000.

The Vaio BZ is a 15.4 laptop designed for business. It weighs a little under 6 pounds but it offers some smart business solutions. You get a hard drive shock protection system, a spill resistant keyboard and a magnesium-alloy case. The BZ will be the only Vaio to include Intel’s vPro management software and the Vaio Care support package. The pricing will start at $1,000 and you will get one by the end of July

The Vaio SR is a 13.3 highly portable laptop. It comes in five colors and weighs about 4 pounds. There’s a backlit-LED display, a webcam and microphone and a hard drive shock protection system. You will get one starting from $1,400 by the end of July.

The Vaio Z is a 13.3 laptop. It must be even more portable than the 13.3 inch SR model. It weighs a little over 3 pounds and features hard drive shock protection system, a fingerprint reader, the Trusted Platform Module and a password protected hard drive. All you need is a password protected sleeve that might perfectly fit into the password protected bag of your choice. Optionally you get an 128 SSD, WWAN, Blu-ray drive and HDMI-out port. The prices start at $1,800 or $2,300 depending on whether you chose the SSD or not. The Vaio Z is going to be customizable from August, if that’s what you want.

Creativity Explored enthusiast and well-known artist Maya Hayuk recently created two new graphic designs for Sony’s VAIO Notebook computers. Using an advanced industrial design technique, Maya’s cutting edge graphic designs “Grow” and “Never Stop” have been placed on a limited edition of Sony VAIO Notebook computers.

Hayuk conceptualized and painted these designs for Sony concentrating on the colorful and symmetrical imagery that she is known for. These new styles transform what was already a stunning PC into a functioning work of art, beautifully blending cutting-edge images with a sleek design.

The “Grow” edition captures the feel of an organic forest with deep green, blue and purple flower-growing wildly across the top of the notebook while “Never Stop” is a colorful, kaleidoscopic design that is decked in interlacing lines and spherical shapes.

The VAIO Graphic Splash Maya Hayuk Edition notebooks go for about $2,500 and will be available at www.sonystyle.com this month.
