The video above shows everyone how the Palm Pre has already been hacked in order to make it work with a Verizon Wireless SIM card. It’s not exactly an unlocked device since the hacker only managed to get voice and SMS working on Verizon. Data is still a problem:
Only problem is that I can’t get data to work. Apparently webOS is checking to see if the device is provisioned or not before allowing a data session to take place. So my next step would be to somehow bypass this provisioning check.
So hackers around the webOS world, it seems that a full unlock of the Pre is just waiting around the corner. Or you could always wait for Verizon to start selling the Pre, which should happen sometime next year.

People have calculated the full retail price of the Palm Pre when Sprint launched their Pre contest. As expected an off-contract handset will cost over $500. That’s $549.99 to be more precise. The price has been revealed by a Sprint’s customer service representatives. The Pre won’t be offered unlocked for that price so you will have to find a different way to unlock your future Pre handset. So what will you do? Will you get a new 2-year contract or will you pay the full price?

Jailbreaking your iPhone 3G might be cool and all, but it would be more fun if you are doing it without voiding your warranty. Sadly, Apple doesn’t agree with this and is always ready to unleash its wrath upon those who dare to do it, but with MacWorld - and hopefully a new iPhone - looming in the near future, times sure seem to have changed. Buy.com is now offering up 16GB “never-locked” iPhone 3Gs that come with genuine Apple-certified warranty and what’s more, these devices can be updated to the latest firmware without the fear of being locked down by the company. But freedom always comes with a price and Buy.com is demanding a hefty $799.99 for it. Wonder what AT&T has to say about this.

Apple has issued a new firmware update for your iPhone and iPod touch. You can get it right away but it won’t get you any spectacular features. Version 2.2.1 improves stability and fixes some bugs. But here’s a list with the most important updates:
- Improved general stability of Safari
- Fixed issue where some images saved from Mail do not display correctly in the Camera Roll
- Fixed issue that caused some Apple Lossless (ALAC) audio files to skip during playback [iPod touch]
Just bear in mind that unlocked and jailbroken phones shouldn’t get nowhere near this update yet. Who knows what might happen?!

Let’s forget the Pre for a second there! We have one more hotter than hot phone due to come out this year. It’s the Nokia N97 from our favorite Finnish phone manufacturers. The phone didn’t get all the attention it should have and with all the buzz surrounding the Pre, the N97 could be neglected even more by the average consumer.
Is this why the phone seems to be arriving on March 31st? That’s what Play.com is saying right now. The unlocked and SIM free N97 will cost around $707. Not to bad for probably the best phone Nokia has created so far. Rumors say that the U.S. version is set to arrive just after the European version so April might be definitely a good month for Nokia.

A few weeks ago on November 10th we talked about the unlocked Nokia cellphones N95 and E71 at BestBuy, remember? Now it’s time for the Nokia N85 to hit the Amazon shelves, and also unlocked.
At this time the N85 costs $555, while the list price has an incredible value of $1,200, which means you save close to $600. Amazon says it takes 2 to 4 weeks to ship the mobile phone, and if it is intended to arrive after 24th of December, it gets free shipping.
Check some of the details of the Nokia N85 to refresh your memory.

The HTC Touch HD is available at expansys already. The phone costs £534.99 which is quite a lot. Considering the phone comes unlocked and with a free 8GB microSD card the prices seems better all of a sudden. At the time I am writing this up I’ll have you know there are about 100 units left in stock and buying more than 5 will get you some discounts as sell. Too bad is available in the UK only for now. So what say you people? Order one now or let the carriers subsidize it?

Apple seems to be ready to sell the iPhone as an unlocked device. All that is happening of course in other countries. Apple’s Hong Kong website is announcing its customers that they can purchase unlocked iPhones 3G and use it in any network.
iPhone 3G purchased at the Apple Online Store can be activated with any wireless carrier Simply insert the SIM from your current phone into iPhone 3G and connect to iTunes 8 to complete activation.
The unlocked 8GB will cost about $700 while the 16GB will sell for about $800. That’s about twice the price paid for any of the iPhones versions bought with a two-year plan from 3.

Does Apple have a surprise for us? According to word on the street future Apple customers will be able to purchase an iPhone without a contract and activate it at home. Does this mean Americans will get the option of finally buying a contract free device? According to Apple Store retail employees a new option appeared on their EasyPay system. When making a sale they can choose Home now besides the previous four options which were: upgrade/swap existing iphone, new to AT&T starting a single line, new to AT&T starting a family line and add a line to existing account. But the Home option isn’t working for now.

If you happened to walk by a Best Buy store today and saw a line of people waiting for something but didn’t bother to check out what it was well then I’ll tell you. It was the iPhone 3G, which starting yesterday, is available from Best Buy too.
Let’s explore this a little bit. Best Buy is advertising the iPhone 3G with “regular price” and “instant savings” showing. Is this all a lie?
Well Best Buy has posters which will show you an iPhone 3G 8GB which costs only $199 after instant savings while the regular price is $599.99. The 16GB version will cost $299 after instant savings while the regular price is $799.99. In order to get the cheaper price you’d have to activate the phone. Guess who’s the carrier then?
I wonder if you can get any iPhone version for the regular price. That would make it an unlocked iPhone, wouldn’t it? If that’s not an option then why buy the device in Best Buy locations? One could simply go to an AT&T store and have the handset for the same price.
Any Best Buy customers who have purchased the iPhone 3G? Tell us how it went!

Well it seems that unlocked 3G iPhone solutions keep popping up everywhere. While the Frech version is really expensive, Union Camera Ltd might have a better deal for you. The Hong Kong based supplier is taking orders and ships the handsets the same day they receive payment.

Like everyone else you probably want an unlocked, possible jailbroken 3G iPhone don’t you? And for the subsidized price right? Well you can either wait for iPhone Dev Team’s Pwnage Tool 2.0 to be released to manually hack your iPhone or you can head to France and order a prepaid 3G iPhone. Sure the price isn’t that great but at least you won’t be tied to a 2 year agreement.

We thought the iPhone 3G will be unlocked, but within a week of its release and in Brazil, where it isn’t even available yet, that’s something we didn’t expect. Seems like Brazilian company, DesbloqueioBr, has managed to do away with the chains giving users a chance to have a go on other carriers and it has a video to prove it. Just a simple firmware alteration and a special SIM card add-on should do the trick, according to the company, albeit with a drop in connection quality. But don’t expect it to come cheap as DesbloqueioBr is thinking of snatching up to 375 of your greens before you go scotfree with your second-gen iPhone. Time to rev up your engines and push that firmware update out soon Apple!

I was telling you yesterday how the iPhone Dev Team managed to unlock and jailbreak the 3G iPhone already. They are preparing their Pwnage Tool 2.0 which will have support for Firmware 2.0.
It’s not available yet and it won’t be released over this weekend, but in the mean time you can enjoy the video above. Next step should be trying to get out of that plan you have already purchased. No matter where you find yourself at this time.
Again, Apple, what are you going to do?

The 3G iPhone isn’t that available yet and its software appears to have been already unlocked and jailbroken. What do you think Apple? Back to the drawing boards for the next OS versions? I mean you certainly weren’t expecting no one to succeed in hacking it right?

If you are still tethered to your least favorite carrier just because your beloved Centro is available on it, we have got news for you. For $299, you will be able to enjoy the Centro and the reasons that made it successful without the hassle of a carrier plan and the freedom to choose the network you want. The specs will remain the same as the AT&T’s version with quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/900 Mhz network support, EDGE speeds, Bluetooth, and instant messaging, but the liberated version will get a gray number pad instead of AT&T’s green.
