While the iPhone 3G hasn’t been unlocked yet, the G1 has. The G1 managed to survive for only a week and what a week it was. Now the open-source Android phone is open-carrier too. All you need is $22.99 and a G1 to work on.
The unlocked G1s have been reported to work in other networks but not everything is going as smooth as you might have suspected. Calls and SMS messages go through without any problems but logging to Gmail isn’t possible. That also means there’s no Android Market either. What do you think? Will you unlock yours? 3G Baseband Tool from iphonedev on Vimeo.
The iPhone Dev Team is closer to unlocking the iPhone 3G. They have cracked the baseband which means the unlock we always wished for it’s coming.
Unfortunately we can’t say when the full unlock will arrive. The baseband will give you control of the phone’s telecomm via hacked code. A small step for iPhone Dev Team, a big step for all those people that want an unlocked device.

If the service you’ve bought with your Nokia cell phones has got you grumpy in light of the recent price drops in various American cell phone networks’ call plans, then the No-Key Nokia X-SIM can help you out. The No-Key Nokia X-SIM can unlock your DCT-4 or BB5 Nokia phone in a jiffy. And we’re not talking about tinkering with your phone such that it voids your warranty. You simply insert the No-Key Nokia X-SIM with the SIM card of the network provider of your choice, and your phone is good to go. This works because based on a locked phone’s mechanism, when you insert another SIM inside the phone, it won’t work because its identification system would indicate that it’s another network provider. However, the No-Key Nokia X-SIM can totally bypass this identification system, allowing you to use any network of your choosing. You can buy the No-Key Nokia X-SIM here for US$31.69.
