Fujitsu U820 or the U2010 received the FCC okay about two months ago. Despite that the new UMPC wasn’t available for U.S. customers yet.
It looks like all that is going to change. The PC showed up in the support section of Fujitsu’s American site. The U820 appears in the drop-down selection list already and there seems to be a BIOS update from July 31st for it. (more…)

Netbook manufacturers must have been really happy when they heard Intel is finally ready to ship those new Atom dual core atom chip or the 330.
The 330 Atom chip is just 45-nanometer big and it will have the same 1.6GHz bus speed like the single core version. It will carry 1MB of level 2 cache and it will support DDR2 667 memory. We’re expecting it to have it fully working in netbooks starting… tomorrow?

Fujitsu Lifebook U2010 is certainly one of the most expensive tablet-UMPC out there. No matter what it packs inside the hefty price of $1,300 will make you want to buy a new Mac instead. (more…)

The simple word Commodore brings back good memories for lots of grown ups. Well in case you want a modern Commodore gadget in your home, look for the Commodore UMMD 8010/F netbook.
And now get ready for the Eee deja-vu part. The Commodore netbook spotted at the IFA in Berlin will have a 10 inch display, a 1.6GHz Via C7-M processor, an 80GB HDD, 1GB or RAM, a 1.3 megapixel camera 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth. Well not exactly a deja-vu here, but the numbers in those features are similar to so many netbooks currently available. The pricing is rather high as this one will cost $610. I’m guessing we’re paying for the name more than for the actual specs there.
In case you’ll be needing desperately a Commodore netbook, go look for Dutch company Yeahronimo Media Ventures as they are the ones that own the name and the device.

Looking for a new MID? How about the i1 from Wibrain. The device looks interestingly enough, although it seems like I’d have a hard time typing from souch a device. The i1 will pack either a 1.1GHz or a 1.3GHz Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 30GB or 60GB HDD or a 8GB, 16GB or 32GB SSD. This MID will have various Internet connectivity options like tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GPRS/EDGE.
Like always the device, spotted at IFA, doesn’t have a price or a release date yet so go to Wibrain and ask around. Maybe they’ll let you know more.

Fujitsu seems ready to launch the Lifebook M1010 netbook. We were expecting Fujitsu to start having impure netbook thoughts sooner or later. This netbook will also be a tablet which is a bold move from Fujitsu. I’m actually interested in an Eee that has a touchscreen too. There’s no pricing or release dates yet only some specs. (more…)

Archos launched two MID, the Archos 5 and the Archos 7. The difference between them is about two inch and a few GB of storage. Can I make any phone calls with those? It would be just too good wouldn’t it. (more…)

In case anyone was waiting for the IdeaPad U8, Lenovo has just launched it. What better period of the year for this MID to be released than the mid Olympic games in Beijing?

Dell hasn’t officially announced the Dell Mini E and while we’re pretty much guessing about it, Fujitsu Siemens seems ready to roll out their Amilo Mini.
There’s a scheduled event to take place on August 28th at the IFA show in Berlin and all the signs and rumors point to an official Amilo Mini release. According to rumors this netbook will be priced from $600 to $800. The only innovation this Mini brings is the changeable face plates which isn’t something I’d be looking for in a portable computer.

We’re still waiting for the official Dell Mini E announcement but all we get is rumors. The Eee-like PC is going to be called Dell Inspiron 910 but we’ve seen that already. Another rumor has surfaced in Taiwan. Apparently Dell has ordered about 1 Million Dell Mini Es which it plans to sell in the following months. Well Dell, enough already. Tell us when the E is coming, how much it costs and whether or not we’re going to have multiple models.
Back to waiting!

It’s only fair to look at Samsung’s competition after we’ve seen their new Q1 Ultra UMPC versions today. I am talking about Wibrain and their updated L1 UMPC.

This isn’t a next generation Q1 Ultra here but we do have two new UMPC versions from Samsung. Released today, the Q1U-CMXP has an HSDPA 3G integrated cellular modem , and the Q1UP-V which is an Ultra Premium Q1 with preinstalled Vista Business. I understand the need for new. I don’t understand the need for Vista.

The battle in the netbook world is tougher than ever wouldn’t you think? After all, with so many companies creating Eee-style mini-notebooks, it’s no wonder that not everyone has the same success. Even Eee is adapting and adjusting their products to maximize sales. And on that note, HP is going to redesign their Mini-Note to make it cheaper and more competitive. Are we to understand that their 2133 Mini-Note isn’t selling as good as they would like?

This is not just a tablet I’m about to show you here. It’s more than that, it’s a mini notebook tablet. Personally I am getting tired of all these Eee-like UMPCs and MIDs popping up day after day. Some are at least trying to offer something different while some of them are not going to make it in this tough world.

I’ve been making a little fun of small laptops all day. Sure they are small, they are affordable, they are really mobile, they are pretty fast, but they are small. Here’s something that made me reconsider their power. An MSI Wind has been hacked and tricked into believing it’s a Mac when in fact it isn’t.

I know 3K might not sound familiar at all to you because 3K is just a small Florida based builder. However you might be interested in their new UMPC, the Razor 400 which is available for just $299.
I have two questions. Why Razor? Couldn’t you come up with any other name? There are so many Razor things out there. Why another UMPC? Aren’t there enough already? Do we need more startup companies trying to pitch their mini laptop idea? Apparently I have more than two questions…

Computers these days are getting smaller and smaller. At this age and with todays technology, all these innovations are now possible. Computer are popping out everywhere in small sizes while maintaining many of its robust features and a little something more. Sharp has joined the market with its Sharp WS016SH, otherwise known as the Willcom D4.
It’s one of the first UMPCs to have an Intel Atom running at its core with 1.33GHz speed. Other specs include a 1GB RAM, 40GB HDD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Windows Vista. All of these are housed in an ultra-compact 84×188×25.9mm body that weighs only 470g. It makes use of a 5-inch 1024×600 touch screen and has a slide out full QWERTY keypad for text input. Akhibara News got a chance to play around with the smallest Vista-toting UMPC, the D4 from Willcom, which is based on Sharp’s WS016SH. The MID has a slide-out keyboard and a 5-inch touchscreen, good enough to watch OneSeg digital TV available in Japan. Akhibara come out feeling satisfied about the device, albeit the 1.33GHz Centrino Atom proved a bit too slow to handle Vista Home Premium, but given that it was only an almost ready prototype they were testing, there might be a few changes to solve this issue. With 1GB of RAM, 40GB HDD, and a 2-megapixel camera, there is also WiFi, Bluetooth, and mini-USB completing its connectivity options.
The Willcom D4 is set for a release in the second quarter of 2008. No price details are available yet. Go ahead and take a look at the video after the break.
