Hacker ports Linux to Kindle 2

It was only a matter of time before this happened — A hacker by the name of Jesse Vincent has successfully been able to get Amazon’s Kindle 2 to run Ubuntu 9.04.

Now you may say, who cares it’s just an eBook reader, but perhaps this will unlock some Kindle 2 functionality that no one knew about before. Exactly what, you ask? Well, your guess is as good as mine at this point.

It should be noted, however, that Usplash and audio aren’t working at the moment, but everything else seems to be humming along just fine. If you’re looking for the step-by-step guide of hooking your handheld up with a real-deal OS, give that read link a long look.

  • Is it a netbook? Is it a laptop? No! It’s Dell’s Inspiron Mini 12.

Previously the Inspiron Mini 12 was a Vista only machine but thanks to a recent update from Dell, that is no longer the case. You can now order the Inspiron Mini 12 with either Ubuntu Linux or Windows XP, a sigh of relief for those looking to order the device.

Starting at just $499, the Ubuntu Linux version of the Mini 12 is the cheapest, with the Windows XP version starting at $549. Of course, with all the added do-dads and what not, you’re sure to be paying above those prices.
