Say what you will but the financial crisis isn’t affecting everyone similarly. As opposed to others that revealed important losses for the first quarter AT&T managed to bring in loads of cash during the same period. The revenue for the first quarter came in at $30.57 billion and the most impressive earnings came from the wireless and U-Verse services. AT&T Mobility brought in 1.2 million new subscribers and it activated 1.6 million iPhones during the last three months. Wireless data revenue grew 38.6% to $3.2 billion and operating income margine grew 26% compared to 2008.
AT&T also added 284,000 net U-Verse TV subscribers, twice as much as it did in Q1 2008. As for wireless broadband subscribers AT&T added 471,000 subscribers and now it has 16.7 million total broadband users.

AT&T is ready to spread it’s U-verse to customers all around the States. The mobile carrier has signed agreements with Circuit City and Walmart which will help it sell the service in over 600 locations. AT&T seems ready to do what it takes to promote its video on demand service. Will people choose it instead regular cable or satellite services? Will they choose AT&T over Apple TV? That would be a fun fight to watch between the two partners in the iPhone business.
