All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Every time a partner like TruPhone announces something related to Apple’s hit products, it has to cover the bond between two gadgets. Normally, we would see a software made for the iPhone and the iPod and if only one should be covered, expect the remaining one to get its own software of the same nature.

Such is the case for the Truphone 3.0 for the Apple iPod Touch. Initially, Truphone had launched one for the Apple iPhone and while only some noticed, the iPod Touch now has its own major new upgrade to its mobile VoIP application. The new version dramatically builds upon the success of previous versions of the VoIP application for the iPod, enhancing users’ instant messaging and account management experience, faster than ever before, and delivering a new standard for call quality.

“Following the successful launch of Truphone 3.0 for the iPhone we were keen to follow-up as quickly as possible for all our iPod touch customers. That’s what we’ve done to ensure that they can take advantage of all our new improvements: improved UI, account management and call quality. We believe Truphone 3.0 sets a new benchmark in terms of quality and performance”, said Geraldine Wilson, CEO Truphone.

Truphone 3.0 for iPhones Launched

The Truphone 3.0 was officially launched for the iPhone today, promising a better mobile VoIP application for the Apple handset. The Truphone 3.0 dramatically builds upon the success of previous versions of the iPhone’s first ever VoIP application, enhancing users’ instant messaging and account management experience, faster than ever before, and delivering a new standard for call quality.

Among the many improvements in Truphone 3.0 are increased ease of use, speed of function response, intuitiveness and simplicity – all designed to enhance the users’ experience. Further, Truphone has improved voice quality making the app for the iPhone better than it’s ever been before.

Using Truphone’s integrated messaging tool that unifies all IM communities in a single place, users can now simply manage all their IM communication from a single page within the application, eliminating the need to constantly jockey between different applications or even different pages within an application. IM services currently supported include Skype, MSN Messenger, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger and Google Talk.

For all Blackberry and mobile phone owners, Truphone Business promises to give a cost-efficient way of making international calls at wireline services. Truphone’s global infrastructure means that these savings are available for calls made from the U.S. to every destination globally, while never compromising on call quality.

Moreover, Truphone Business is entirely invisible to end users who simply dial an international number as usual, without noticing that the call is being connected by Truphone.

Truphone Business is quick and easy to provision, being pushed to each device via the Blackberry server, instantly activating the service on every BlackBerry device. Specifically designed for business use, the service also offers centralized monthly billing with itemized and departmental reporting.

Truphone Business works alongside existing wireless operators. Users dial a number as usual and if the number is international, Truphone intercepts the call and connects it to the international destination via the Truphone global platform. Companies only pay for the local call to Truphone (which is usually included in their wireless package) and the international leg of the call, at wireline rates.

Truphone Business will be available from BlackBerry resellers throughout the U.S.

Any form of bargain or scheme that can aid most consumers today is certainly welcome. And one aspect is that of lowering communication costs. With the launch of TruPhone’s TruUnlimited program, people around the world can now call more places, both landlines and mobiles, more often - all for one, low, fixed price.

Using TruUnlimited, customers enjoy the freedom to make calls around the world, at any time of the day and on any day of the week, without worrying about mounting call charges. The customer is also always in control: TruUnlimited plans do not require customers to enter into long-term contracts and may be cancelled at any time.

TruUnlimited for Landlines
For people who need to communicate regularly with colleagues, friends or family around the world, the TruUnlimited for Landlines monthly plan gives unlimited calls to landlines in 38 countries for just £10 per month. As a bonus, the plan also permits calls to mobile phones in some top destinations such as the USA, Canada, China, and Hong Kong at no extra charge.

TruUnlimited for Mobiles
For people calling mobile phones more frequently, the TruUnlimited for Mobiles monthly plan provides subscribers with unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines in 64 countries for just £25 per month.

Both plans are available immediately both to existing Truphone customers and new subscribers via the easy installation of the Truphone application software. This is available as a free download for iPhone and iPod touch, and for certain Nokia N-series and E-series devices. Truphone Anywhere is available on the Google Android G1 and on Blackberry smartphones.

The new TruUnlimited plans are not replacements for other popular Truphone programs. Customers that do not need a Truphone Unlimited plan can still make great savings on Truphone’s standard rates.

One thing about owning a phone and making calls is the scope of coverage. Normally, your service provider limits calls to local vicinities and should you want roaming services, this will mean additional cost and services. If that should be the case, the best you can do is avail the best one there is and Truphone Local Anywhere is most certainly it.

The introduction of Truphone’s multi-country, single-SIM service will change the current experience of people with an international lifestyle. Their mobile experience is currently characterized by frustration, brought on by constantly having to juggle multiple SIM cards and mobile phones in order to minimize their mobile costs.

Truphone Local Anywhere Benefits include:

  • Number portability of existing mobile and landline numbers to Truphone;
  • Full service multi-language customer support;
  • Ability to manage their Caller ID (CLI);
  • Competitive rates on domestic calls, SMS, and data in home country;
  • Low cost international calling to the world from any Truphone Local Anywhere-supported country;
  • Up to 80 percent savings on roaming charges when visiting other countries;
  • No roaming surcharges to receive calls in most major destinations;
  • TruFriendsTM – providing even lower calling rates to call to other Truphone Local Anywhere customers;
  • Additional “virtual” country mobile numbers to seem ‘local’ in another country so friends/colleagues can call at local rates.

    Two weeks ago we mentioned the Truphone VoIP for iPod Touch, but the good news is that the application is now available for the iPhone as well. This addition means that iPhone users can make calls threw Truphone when there isn’t WiFi access. In other words, instead of paying normal rates, iPhone users will make a call via a local connection, and afterwards start using VoIP - Voice over IP.

    In the end the costs of international calls are pretty low, like $0.6 per minute.

    The new Truphone application got another aditional feature named “presence” that lets iPhone users know when their Truphone buddies are online.

    Geraldine Wilson of Truphone, comments:

    No-one likes big mobile bills, and they don’t come any bigger than for international calls. But for iPhone users, that no longer needs to be the case. They can choose either to pay standard international call rates, or to reduce them to as little as 3 pence or 6 cents per minute. It’s as simple as that, no catches.

    Have an iPod touch but don’t want to spring another few hundred dollars on an iPhone? The Truphone for iPod touch may be for you. The cool application essentially turns your music player into a VoIP phone - which means free calls when using your home internet connection.

    And the application lets you call not only other iPod touch owners but also users of Truphone’s Internet telephony service and your Google Talk friends. (I am not a huge fan of GTalk, but that’s another story). Upcoming features include calling to landlines (at a cost, bummer), IM/call capability for Skype and MSN users and additional facilities for interacting with Twitter and Facebook, two of the social networking hotspots on the Internet.

    Download the Truphone for iPod touch from the App Store. There’s also a Microphone adaptor accessory that goes with it, and is available from Apple’s iStore.
