All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

There is no doubt that iPhones are some of the most technology advanced phones today, but did you know that new evidence is showing some interesting new features on the horizon for the Apple phone? According to some reports, patent applications for the company include things like RFID tag readers, fingerprint identification technology as well as haptic feedback.

The haptic feedback will allow users to use their phones or MP3 players without actually using the screen, a good option for driving. The RFID reader will be added to those phones with touch screens. They will imbed these readers in the iPhone or iPod to get the phone into corporate and industrial areas. The fingerprint identification will help users to use each of their fingers to access different information on the device.

  • There is a new way to help iPhone and iPod Touch owners through the Kindle store. Amazon today launched a Kindle Store optimized for the Safari Web browser on iPhone. Now when users of the Kindle for iPhone app click on “Get Books,” the new Kindle Store tailored for the size and shape of the iPhone and iPod touch screens automatically opens in Safari.

This optimized Kindle store offers iPhone and iPod touch app users quick and easy access to the Kindle Store’s 280,000 books, including 106 of 112 New York Times Best Sellers and most New Releases that are available for $9.99 or less.

The Kindle for iPhone application was released on March 4 and within days became the most popular books app in the iPhone App Store. iPhone users can shop Kindle’s massive selection of books on the iPhone and iPod touch using Apple’s Multi-Touch user interface.

Amazon’s Whispersync technology saves and synchronizes Kindle customers’ bookmarks across Kindle, iPhone and iPod touch, so you always have your reading with you and never lose your place. Kindle customers can read a few pages on their iPhone or iPod touch and pick up right where they left off on their Kindle.

  • Since we are in the age of touch screens, here is another one that can be put to good use. Microchip Technologies announces a new solution that will allow designers to quickly and easily develop capacitive touch user-interface applications using Microchip’s 8- and 16-bit PIC microcontrollers (MCUs).

The flexible, comprehensive kit includes two main boards—one populated with a PIC16F72X 8-bit MCU and the other with a PIC24F256GB110 16-bit MCU; four daughter boards for developing capacitive-touch keys, sliders and a matrix; a PICkit™ Serial Analyzer; an easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI); and several code and schematic examples. The modular kit makes it easy for designers to try different keypad configurations, and experiment with touch-pad sizes and shapes using the mother boards.

The mTouch Capacitive Touch Evaluation Kit (part # DM183026) is available for $84.95.
