The Toshiba G450 is exactly what I would buy today. It’s an all in one device. It works as a modem, phone, MP3 player and USB memory stick. Plug it into your computer and enjoy the element you were looking for.
Toshiba had me at modem and phone. That’s what I need for my mobility. The stick is also good and the MP3 player could also be very useful. It has a battery which will get you extra life when you most need it. The battery gets juice every time you connect it to your computer. You need a SIM card from your favorite carrier to make this stick work. The G450 is bigger than your regular stick. It has a screen and two rotary keypads. You can make calls and sens SMS messages.
The stick offers only 160MB of storage space so you won’t get that many songs on this MP3 player. The price you ask? Only £140 in the UK but I say it’s worth it.

Back in June, Toshiba unveiled the first laptop with a 128G solid-state drive which is called R500-S5007V. More recently, a couple of days ago, another unit was added to the Protégé line, the A605 that costs close to $1,400.
In terms of performance, the 12-inch A605 sports an Intel Centrino 2 Duo processor, the SU9300 to be more specific. It has 3GB of RAM memory, a Serial ATA hard-drive with 250GB, and a Mobile Intel graphics 11 Media Accelerator. Sadly it has Windows Vista as the operative system,
Other features included on Toshiba Protégé A605:
- DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) with Labelflash(TM) drive
- Built-in webcam and microphone (more…)

Samsung decide to break up from SanDisk despite the fact they weren’t in fact together. I guess Samsung heard about SanDisk going out with Toshiba and that’s simply unacceptable. In response it has withdrew the initial buyout offer. The $26 per share is history as of today. Below you will find the break up letter itself.

So it’s Toshiba the company SanDisk chose to strike a deal with and not Samsung whom we all suspected. Toshiba will get 30% of SanDisk’s manufacturing capacity in $1 billion deal. The two companies will continue their 50/50 partnership in the remaining 70% of their joint factories. Toshiba will get 65% of the production capacity but I guess that’s what 50/50 means in their language.
Samsung is angry probably. Are they going to up the ante and still go for the complete buyout of SanDisk? They’d have to outbid their former $6 billion buyout offer which was rejected about a month ago. Their royalty arrangement with SanDisk will expire in August 2009. We’ll probably going to see some action by then!

Somehow we missed the good news for Japan last week, because Toshiba has launched a new series of Dynabook Satellite laptops, named PXW. At the moment there are 2 models on the shelves, more specifically the 55GW and 57GW.
The price difference between each is €130 ($174), and that is only caused by the different processor and graphics card. The low-end model 55GW has an Intel Celeron 575 at 2GHz and an Intel GL40 Express chipset, while the high-end laptop features an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 at 2.26GHz.
All the other specifications, such as the 15.4-inch LCD screen with a 1280×800 resolution, standard 2GB of memory that can be expanded up to 4GB, the DVD Super Multi Drive, Wi-Fi, and multi-card reader, are present in both models.

The Canadian department of Toshiba has added a new notebook to their website. Also known as the Tecra R10, the useful laptop costs $2,000 and has everything you can ask for.
The processor on the Tecra R10 is an Intel Core 2 Duo SP9400 that runs at 2.4GHz and makes use of the Centrino 2 technology. The RAM memory can be expanded up to 8GB, but the standard is already good at 4GB of DDR2 at 800MHz. The hard-drive is a S-ATA of 200GB and the system includes a DVD Super-Multi Double Layer Drive.
On the display screen department there is a 14.1-inch WXGA TFT, with a resolution of 1280×800 and 16.7 million colors. To make everything smoother, the graphics card is a NVIDIA Quadro NVS 150M.

The Toshiba E105 was announced a few days ago, and it is already available for pre-order online at BestBuy for $1,200. The laptop has a reasonable price and fair specs, but there are a few details that could be improved, maybe we’ll see that change in the next model.
Anyway, the Satellite E105 is a 14.1-inch laptop with a hard-drive of 320GB, a DVD burner and a card reader that supports various formats. The technical stuff includes an Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics, which will surely make the 1280×800 resolution a good one. The processor is a 2.26GHz Core 2 Duo, and the RAM memory is pretty good at 4GB of DDR2.

The future is at Toshiba… well, the future of laptop charging, that is! The company has showed off a prototype of its fast-charging SCiB battery designed to charge laptops to 90 percent capacity within 10 minutes. Astounding? Yes. Readily available? Sadly, no. The technology is still quite some time away from making its way to computers.
Interestingly, this technology will last longer and endure more recharge cycles than your average lithium-ion batteries. They are also safer than the aforementioned batteries, featuring a higher level of thermal stability and whatnot.
No release date or price for the SCiB laptop batteries was set.

Another day passes, and another notebook is presented by Toshiba. This time the glory goes for the new Dynabook NX series.
The 12.1-inch LCD screen features a black light LED so you can see better, and a WXGA resolution of 1280×800 pixels – not too bad for a small notebook.
In terms of performance it is well equipped, with an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 processor at 1.20GHz, standard 2GB of RAM memory that can be expanded to 3GB, and a DVD Super Multi Drive.

MLC technology or multi-level-cell technology has been included in the new Toshiba SSD drives. These come in 8G, 16GB, 32GB and 250GB. What happened with the gap? Nothing in between 32GB and 256GB? Netbooks and desktops/laptops versions right? (more…)

While the size of the hard drive may not be very significant, it’s the physical dimensions that attract attention: Toshiba has announced a 1.8 inch 250GB hard drive that spins at 5400 rpm. Even more interesting is that it features SATA support, offering up to 3Gbps bandwidth for disk intensive applications.
The 8mm thick drive will surely make its way to ultra portable laptops, and will also replace a similar 240GB 1.8 inch hard drive that was announced some time ago, though it was stuck with a slower PATA interface suitable only for portable media players.
The drive hits mass production in November and will be part of the MKxx29GSG series.

There’s another netbook from Toshiba ready to enter the already over saturated market. It’s the Toshiba Satellite NB105 from Toshiba Mexico. But don’t worry, it’s basically the same computer we’ve gotten used to under a different name.
The Toshiba NB105 features:
Surprisingly there’s no Linux version available yet. And we don’t know anything about prices yet but they should be in the usual range.

You won’t find any precious stones on this latest addition to Softbank’s ever growing lineup of Toshiba products but the Toshiba 824T has features that could make anyone forget jewels. Measuring in at just 50×103x17.8 mm, the 824T has an expansive 2.8-inch widescreen QVGA display, an integrated 2-megapixel camera, built-in GPS, Bluetooth, and a microSD slot with 2GB support. Looks like the Japanese need more TV and less connectivity as this clamshell has a 1Seg TV tuner included but WiFi fails to make it with just Bluetooth and 3G/W-CDMA network support. No word on when or for how much this will be available, but when it is, users can get the Toshiba 824T in pastel pink, pastel blue, pastel purple, and the ever popular vivid pink.

We’ve seen our share of really small projectors and it’s Toshiba’s turn to release one. Their Pico projector is scheduled to be released sometime early next year. The official announcement is expected at the next CES. Toshiba’s Pico projector will be able to project a 60 inch screen despite being as big as a cell phone. You’d want one of those wouldn’t you?

What will this netbook from Toshiba offer? Here it is:
a 5.6″ touch screen display
the Microsoft Vista operating system

a GPS chipset
an Intel Atom processor

Slowly but surely we’re going to connect through everything to the Internet. Laptops and desktops, mobile devices and smartphones, GPS device, they are all able to go online at any time. I’ll be waiting for my toaster to get WiFi support but in the mean time Toshiba might have a DVD player that would also surf the Internet. Kind of a laptop you mean?
Apparently this DVD logo released by the DVD Forum started this rumor. Toshiba decided earlier not to go Blu-ray but instead to develop more and more affordable DVD players which will feature enhanced image scaling capabilities. Besides working on image quality Toshiba will introduce some sort of Internet connectivity to all their new DVD which will be branded with DVD Download/DL logo
It’s yet unknown how these new DVD Download/DL are supposed to be working with the Internet. There’s no news on future models so I guess we just have to sit and wait for more details.

We’ve shown you a powerful gaming design yesterday, the Qosmio X305 and we have another Qosmio, the G55 under scrutiny today. It’s rumored that this laptop will go in sale somewhere in July for no less than $1,550.
Here’s what we know so far about the Qosmio G55 from Toshiba:

A few years back I was looking for powerful gaming laptops only, to suit all my needs. Now I turn to smaller and smaller devices to get me working while on the go, but I sure miss the times when I had more time to play games. Toshiba on the other hand has plenty of times for playing games on their new Qosmio X305.

Toshiba have released their smallest hard drive so far to pack such a punch, proving that it’s not the size of the HDD that actually matters.
The new 1.8 inch HDD from Toshiba, called the MK617GSG, will be available in their line of laptops starting this August. Curios about specs? This Toshiba packs 80 or 160GB and spins at 5400rpm. This is basically a step forward since similar sized hard drives in the past wouldn’t go past the 4200rpm barrier.
