All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

October 6th is shaping up to be quite a day for Microsoft, with many WM6.5 devices lined up to be out the door from many major companies.  The newest device to join the list is the TG01, which was already launched earlier this year with 6.5’s younger sibling, Windows Mobile 6.1.  The new variant of TG01 “Windows phone” will start selling on October 6, 2009 with Windows Mobile 6.5 across Europe and for those who already own the device, Toshiba will offer an upgrade to 6.5 with no extra cost starting the same day.  Great news, but let’s hope they won’t include the virus this time around!

  • Toshiba’s TG01 phone was the first phone equipped with a 1GHz processor and it’s currently available in various markets. The TG01 didn’t get all the attention it deserves from the media but that didn’t stop Toshiba to work on a new handset, the TG02. We can’t produce any more hot photos of the device and we don’t have all the specs just yet but the phone has been confirmed by the WiFi Alliance. The TG01 follower will come with WiFi on board, touchscreen support, GPS, Bluetooth, HSPA and hopefully a lot of other hot features. We just have to be patient enough and wait for Toshiba to actually launch the phone.

  • If you love taking pictures and you also happen to own one of those fast Toshiba TG01 processors then you should know there’s third-party motion sensor available for it. The device will let you browse through a 2,000-inch picture easily, and it will connect through USB to the phone. The MEMS motion sensor was developed by the Usuda Research Institute and Systems Corp and it should be available in the near future for the T-01A (TG01) sold by NTT DoCoMo in Japan. Will we see the device appear in other markets too? How much will it cost?

Toshiba’s TG01 was released in Europe with some malware to the dismay of customers and then released again virus-free to a much happier market. However, virus or not, us Americans haven’t gotten the same TG01 love as our European brethrens.

Lucky for us, the TG01 was recently spotted to have passed through the FCC touting none other than CDMA hardware. For those of you not paying attention, Verizon and Sprint run on a CDMA network possibly confirming the phone will be coming to either carrier. Furthermore, Engadget notes that the phone was listed as a production model which means it may be closer to North American shelves than we had previously thought.

But just which carrier will get exclusivity? Sprint, Verizon, what say you?

You might already be aware of the fact that O2 is the carrier currently selling Toshiba’s TG01 phone in Germany. What you might not know is that O2 decided to stop sales of the TG01 after a virus has been discovered in various units. Sure it’s an unfortunate event but it looks like O2 has dealt with the problem. The smartphone is available again from O2’s website which is a good sign. We’re interested to see if this virus thing is going to affect TG01 smartphones in other markets. As for German customers, you’ll be able to purchase your TG01 phone in the following days. How does that sound?

  • Huge touchscreen display, check.  A-GPS, check.  Virus, check.  Wait, a virus? Yep, that’s what some of O2’s customers learned the hard way, a virus preinstalled on Toshiba’s G01 Windows Mobile smartphone, which became available in Germany at the beginning of this month.  The virus is said to be preinstalled on the TG01’s memory and although there is no information on how this affects the handset’s functionality, O2 has revealed that it affects only a few devices and not all that have been sold until now.  Needless to say, no more TG01s will be sold in Germany until the issue is resolved and current owners can contact customer service to get a clean chit on their device.  We’ll tell you more when O2 has a solution for this problem, so stay tuned.

Tomorrow, July 10, that famous TG01 smartphone from Toshiba will be available in the UK. The exclusive carrier is Orange UK and the phone will be available for free with a 2-year contract as long as you’re ready to get at least a £39.15 per month plan. The plan comes with 1200 any network voice minutes, unlimited SMS messages, anytime internet browsing and Orange Maps preloaded on the phone. And as a bonus to all that, an 8GB microSD card is included in the package.

Francois Mathieu, Director of Devices, Orange UK said:

We’re really pleased to have teamed up with Toshiba to bring the TG01 exclusively to the UK. We believe the TG01 is a prime example of manufacturer innovation, and is a device that is at the very top of its game which will allow users to make the most from their mobile experience.

Since it likes the TG01 so much can we expect Orange to bring the TG01 in other markets too? We’ll definitely keep you posted!

It seems that the highly sought after Toshiba TG01 has finally made its way onto a carrier, unfortunately only in the UK.

This doesn’t mean UK cellphone users will be able to get their hands on the phone right away as Orange’s website states the handset is coming soon. And for those who don’t know, the TG01 is just 9.9mm thick, has a 3.1MP camera, 4.1″ touschscreen, YouTube and Windows Mobile 6.1.

Just when will the TG01 be available? Well, come July 9th, we’ll probably have a more solid answer.

That extraordinaire handset made by Toshiba, the TG01 has been launched in Japan last week and it looks like the phone is going to the UK next. The TG01 will be available starting with July 9 and next week we should have all the details for you. And this Snapdragon-powered phone deserves all the attention it can get. After all it’s not every day that you get to see a 9.9 mm thick phone packing an impressive 1.0GHz processor inside and offering you a 4.1-inch WVGA touchscreen. What do you think, are you ready to trade in your iPhone for a TG01?

Formally announced back in February as the TG01, Toshiba has recently announced that a rebranded version of the phone, the T-01A, has made its way to Japan today.

If you’re not familiar with this phone, it clocks in at a ridiculously small 9.9mm thick and features Qualcomm’s ridiculously fast (for a cellphone) 1GHz Snapdragon processor. Additionally, the TG01 T-01A features a 800 x 480 4.1-inch WVGA resistive touchscreen and support for HSDPA, GPS and WiFi. Software wise you’ll find the T-01A running Windows Mobile 6.1. What, were you expecting Android?

Let’s hope that Toshiba hurrys up and releases this phone worldwide.

There’s still no word on when Toshiba’s 9mm thick touchscreen TG01 handset will hit the states if ever but those in Japan and Spain will be seeing the phone as early as next month.

This information comes to us from DOCOMO and Telefonica. DOCOMO being the Japanese carrier who will market the TG01 as docomo PRO series T-01A while Telefonica will market the device in Spain as the TG01.

Just a quick reminder, Toshiba’s TG01 features a 1GHz procesor from Qualcomm, a 4.1″ 800 x 480 WVGA touchscreen and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional customized with a 3D user interface. Additionally it will a have support for GPS, WiFI, HSDPA along with a microSD. Let’s just hope it finds a U.S. carrier soon.

Nokia N97 to Offer You a Weak CPU?

The N97 looks great and until today I bet that lots of people were getting their budgets approved in order to get it. But today is a sad day for all those of us that fell in love with Nokia’s new flagship phone. The handset seems ready to disappoint us with a weak ARM 11 processor running at only 434MHz. That’s only 65MHz more than the 5800 XpressMusic and surely not enough for our mobile needs. The N97 comes with an impressive price tag so we were expecting a much better processor. Let’s not forget that the Pre clocks at around 600MHz or that the BlackBerry Bold launched last year has a 624MHz processor. I won’t even mention the TG01 which will be dazzling us with a 1GHz processor. Whoops, I just did! So let us hear the defendant speak! Nokia?

Toshiba’s future lineup has been leaked recently and now we have some pictures to match those names. The TG01 which we are already expecting will be followed by two new sets the TG02 and the TG03. The shots aren’t exactly clear but we’re so familiar with blurry leaked pictures that we’d be surprised to see the new handset any different. Now that we have the leaked images we’d like more details about actual pricing and availability dates.

Toshiba’s TG01 isn’t even available yet and we got wind of a new handset ready to arrive from Toshiba. The FCC has received the paperwork for the TG01 which contained all the right pictures but the actual documents covered a whole new phone, the TM5-E01. This one should be a clamshell phone which will have the following features:

    • Tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900), UMTS2100 connectivity
    • QSD8250 CPU (Snapdragon), 256 MB of RAM, 512MB ROM
    • Windows Mobile 6 Professional OS
    • Primary display: 3-inch 800 × 480 WVGA touchscreen
    • Secondary display: 0.8-inch 96 × 39 black & white OLED LCD
    • Camera (unknown resolution)
    • Wi-Fi
    • aGPS
    • Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR
    • miniUSB
    • microSD memory card slot
    • Dimensions: 117x 64×19.8mm, 183g

Are we to expect it soon since the FCC is already checking it out?

  • While there’s still a long way to go until we’re going to see the TG01 from Toshiba, O2 Germany has made sure it will be the only German carrier to sell it. That’s right, the TG01 will be available exclusively from O2 for an undisclosed yet price.

The TG01 will be the first handset to bring us 1.0GHz processor speed thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD2850. It will also be one of the thinnest phones at only 9.9 thickness. And that 4.1-inch TFT touchscreen will certainly come in handy. The handset should arrive with Windows Mobile 6.1 on board and we have no idea if we’re going to be able to upgrade it to Windows Mobile 6.5

    Toshiba TG01 Spotted on Video

I bet you didn’t see this one coming. A Windows Mobile 6.1 slick handset able to compete against the iPhone or the Storm. We’ve shown you the device yesterday in pictures and today we have a video of it along with more details.

The TG01 will have a 4.1 inch screen and a thickness of only 9.9mm. A heavy duty Qualcomm 1Ghz SnapDragon processor will make everything run smoothly. You get a 3.2 megapixel camera, 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth, and Toshiba customized version of Windows Mobile. Check the video to actually see how all that works. The phone will be launched later this summer and we’re counting on it to fight well against the Pre.
