While the US had the Samsung m540 aka Slyde available for purchase for quite some time, the cellphone was launched in Canada very recently, thanks to Telus.
The slide-out QWERTY keyboard is one of the best features on the m540, but the included software - My Email and Messenger 2.0 - is also a good bonus. Phone details include GPS, a 2-megapixel camera, and a 2.1-inch screen.
The Samsung m540 is available in black or pink, and depending on the plan you pick it can cost close to nothing. With that being said, here are the plans:
3-year: $0.00
2-year: $49.99

It looks like 3.5G networks are being developed by various carriers out there. Canada’s Telus makes no exception. The company has announced the arrival of their 3.5G HSPA network. It is scheduled to be launch in early 2010. By that time Telus will be working hard on getting it fully functional in Canada.
Telus is going to work side by side with Bell. That two carriers will finish developing the new network faster and cheaper than if they worked alone. Telus is expecting to pay around $750 million for the upgrade in 2009 alone. HSPA in their 3G networks? This piece of news seems more … www.mobilewhack.com/att-to-deploy-3g-before-the-iphone2-gets-released”>HSPA upgrades might cost even more in the years to come. It’s not just Vodafone and Verizon that are getting the Storm when it will finally hit. Canadians are in it too. Bell and Telus are the carriers that have already announced the Storm for their Canadian subscribers.
I’d be surprised to see Rogers roll out a Storm. After all they have the iPhone to suck the blood of its customers with. So I guess we have to wait for official pricing and particular plans right?

Great news Canada! Here’s one more cool device coming your way. Telus Mobility appears to be first North American carrier to bring the HTC Touch Diamond in Canada. Verizon and Sprint are rumored to deliver the HTC Touch Diamond in the USA, but that’s not confirmed yet. Telus will launch the Touch Diamond somewhere this summer.
The Canadian HTC Touch Diamond will be a CDMA handset in Canada, with EVDO Rev. A support. The HTC will get the Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro, GPS and a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera. There’s WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 and 4GB memory inside.
As this HTC will be a CDMA version, the chosen design will be the standard design of the CDMA version, not the regular diamond shaped battery cover. You will get this HTC for $149.99 with a three year agreement and for $449.99 without a contract.

Well, I think love is really in the air. At least love for pink that is. After conquering Verizon in the United States, the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 in its all its pinkish glory is headed up north towards Canada via Telus. But this time, there is also a humanitarian side to this fashionable smartphone as Telus will donate $25 to Rethink Breast Cancer on every piece sold. Get it before the big day on a three-year contract for $99.99 from Telus. I won’t bore you with the specs again, but head over here if you are still interested.
