No other than Santa himself will be leading the cast of Boost Mobile’s “Unwronged Commercials” this Holiday season showing how overpriced mobile phone plans can force people like Saint Nick himself to make cutbacks as well. A gist of the new ad shows Santa having to make cutbacks due to an overpriced mobile phone plan thus hiring a seven-foot-tall elf and donkey stand-ins to lug his sleigh. The ad started to air last November 17 and will feature the Motorola Debut i856 which we had posted here some days back. Apparently the add aims to drive in more subscribers thanks to their customer and cost-friendly plans which include a nationwide $50 Monthly Unlimited plan which was highlighted in the commercial. This same plan is likewise included for people who plan to purchase the Motorola Debut i856.

You can watch the video here.

You conclude a lot of things once you catch a glimpse of posters or photos serving as promotional materials or teasers. And while 02 Germany has already made it known that they may be unleashing the Palm Pre before the Holidays start, it seems that something definite regarding this promise is about to take place. If the image above is any indication, it looks like the GSM Palm Pre will definitely be coming out this Fall.

With only a few months away, at least this update will make the German handset subscribers happy.

  • Loopt for iPhones Approved

It looks like a new application is coming to the iPhones with Loopt. Loopt acts as a GPS-like app which runs simultaneously on the Apple iPhone with permission from the actual owner of the device. The Loopt app is designed to pinpoint the iPhone owner’s exact location through other compatible services.

The Loopt app was permitted by AT&T which would now require subscribers to pay a monthly fee of $3.99 for the new feature. There is a free 14 day trial for subscribers to try it out. The coming of this app can be useful for parents who often worry about their children when they are out on their own. It may also be a good tracker for erring husbands or wives, provided of course they approve it when they are being tracked!

Sure, Sprint may be in the process or purchasing Virgin Mobile USA to the tune of $483 million but that doesn’t mean its all peaches for the carrier.

Recent reports suggest that not only did they lose $384 million for Q2 of this year, but they also lost 257,000 subscribers. Make not that all of this happened right when Sprint took the Palm Pre under its wing.

So what is to happen to Sprint? Will they be on a steady decline or will the purchase of Virgin Mobile give them the boost they need? Only time will tell.

Verizon has yet to post its financial report for the second quarter of the year. We’ve already seen AT&T’s report but we’ll have to wait a couple of days until Big Red’s numbers will become public knowledge.

The company did however release its Q2 subscriber count. Verizon managed to add 1.1 million net subscribers which is 300k short of AT&T’s new additions number. That means Verizon currently sits on 87.7 million subscribers which is an impressive figure. AT&T is trailing behind but Verizon will keep its crown for now. We’ll be curious to see how these million subscribers translate into profits, but that report is coming on July 27 only.
