All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

The popular and long-waited BlackBerry Storm2 is officially available online, at the Verizon website, for a mere price of $180 after the mail-in rebate of $100 and after signing a 2-year contract.

The Verizon BlackBerry Storm2 9550 only has one problem when comparing it to other BlackBerry devices, which is the exclusion of Wi-Fi… Taking in consideration the early news that 409 million devices feature WiFi, I guess there won’t be many more smart phones on the future that don’t have WiFi.

Anyhow, for BlackBerry lovers this latest model will surely please them thanks to the improved processor, memory, and other details.

Verizon hasn’t announced the BlackBerry Storm 2 although Vodafone did. What’s more strange, Verizon seems to want to start selling the BlackBerry Storm 2 on October 28 which is precisely the day when Big Red and Motorola are going to unveil to the world the Motorola Droid.

Will the BlackBerry Storm 2 live in the shadow of the Droid? The phone will be available for $179.99 after $100 mail-in rebate with a 2-year contract. 1-year contracts will also be available but the price for the Storm 2 will go to up to $249.99. The smartphone will also be available without a contract for $539.99 and it all starts on October 28.

The following question is pretty obvious, so here it goes, what are you going to purchase on October 28? The Motorola Droid or the BlackBerry Storm 2.

The Motorola Droid is the next number one Android phone which is already very well known to consumers. And the fact that the Motorola Droid is coming in the very near future is again, very well known. But Motorola still seems confused about actual arrival dates.

How else could one explain the mysterious appearance of the Droid on Motorola’s website? Everything looks official enough but it’s way too early. Shouldn’t we at least wait for Verizon to make the phone official? It appears not and we can only assume that both Verizon Wireless and Motorola officials will be really annoyed to see the screenshots all over the Internet.

So what do you say, Verizon, aren’t you going to launch the device already? Everyone knows it’s coming! And while you’re at it you could also consider unveiling the Storm 2!

Earlier this month we told you that BlackBerry Storm 2 dummy units were expected to hit Best Buy retail locations on October 25th. Well, it seems that someone jumped the gun or we had faulty information as it was made known that the dummy units have appeared at both Best Buy and Verizon stores.

Other than the fact that this means the device is almost definitely going to launch soon, you can head to your local store and check out the dummy unit to get a feel for the handset’s physical design. Of course, nothing will work on it so don’t get too excited.

Sure, Verizon may have yet to officially announce the BlackBerry Storm 2 but that hasn’t stopped them from hinting at it, unofficially announcing it and just generally letting us know that they are definitely getting it at some point.

To add further kindle to the fire the device itself has actually appeared on Verizon Wireless’ website today only to be quickly pulled down. Luckily BGR got the above screen shot as proof for you nonbelievers.

I bet you’re really excited about the new Storm 2! We’ve seen the videos, we’ve heard the stories, and now we’re looking forward to see Verizon Wireless launch one of the most interesting BlackBerry smartphones created so far. BlackBerry lovers will have a tough time choosing between the Storm 2 and the Bold 2. But if they’re looking for a large touchscreen display with a totally redesigned tactile feedback then the Storm 2 is the way to go.

In an interview with the New York Times, Verizon’s CEO, Lowell McAdam has spilled the beans on the Storm 2. It looks like the smartphone will be launched at some point this week which means we’ll have all the Storm 2 details ready for you in the following days. Let’s hope that this time around the new Storm will not disappoint us like its predecessor did a year ago.

We’re not surprised to see stuff leaked from Best Buy and this time we have some details about the company’s upcoming holiday releases. And there are quite a few phones there ready to capture your imagination, but also a netbook we’ve seen in the news lately:

  • Nokia Booklet netbook - October 25th launch (AT&T activation)
  • Sprint HTC Hero - October 11th
  • Sprint Palm Pixi - launch date TBD
  • Verizon Storm II - launch date TBD
  • Verizon Android device - launch date TBD
  • T-Mobile CLIQ - launch date TBD

We’re particularly interested in that “new technology which doesn’t exist today” mentioned in the leaked documents and we definitely want to hear more about those BlackBerry and multiple Android phones which will also be available from Best Buy soon. We’ll be back with official prices and release dates so in the mean time you have plenty of time to decide what phone to ask from Santa this Christmas!

Those of you waiting for RIM’s BlackBerry Storm 2 should head to Best Buy stores on or around October 25. That’s the date when the Storm 2 dummy phones will be available in Best Buy phones which suggest the fact that we’re getting closer and closer to the actual release date of RIM’s newest flagship phone. After all there’s no point sending those dummy phones to retailers if the real version won’t be available soon. There’s no official news from Verizon or RIM to support all that but we shall keep our eyes wide open for more Storm 2 leaked info for you.

The Storm 2 is certainly coming and Big Red is trying to get rid of its current BlackBerry Storm stock. In case you’re still interested in the “old” Storm then you can get it now for just $50 from Verizon’s online store. You get a $100 online discount and you’ll have to get a 2-year new contract. And since the buy-one-get-one deal is still available you might end up getting two BlackBerry Storms for just $50. What do you say?

In case you’re curious to see what makes that brand new touchscreen of the Storm 2 work then take a look at the picture here. We’ve seen a couple of videos which explained in detail the new piezoelectric technology and how it’s being used in the BlackBerry Storm 2 and now we’ve come across this image. What we can clearly see in it are four buttons placed in every corner of the screen. And I thought there is no button under the screen this time around! It seems that we will need buttons for “multi-press” actions. Exactly the kind of actions you’d normally do on a regular keyboard by pressing multiple buttons at once. RIM hasn’t officially given any explanation for this new touchscreen technology so we’ll have to wait for the Storm 2 to be launched before we can find out more!

Although it’s still the weekend, we’ve seen lots of leaked stuff these days and we’re about to see some more! It looks like Verizon Wireless has decided to leak release dates for the hot phones that are going to be available from Big Red at some point in the future. And here are some of the hottest handsets which you can expect from Verizon in the following months:

  • Motorola Sholes – October
  • Nokia Twist 7705 – September - $230
  • LG Chocolate Touch – October- $230
  • HTC Razzle/Blitz 2 – October
  • Samsung Intensity – September - $130
  • BlackBerry Storm 2 – October
  • BlackBerry Curve 2 – November

We’ll just have to wait for the carrier to officially announce these phones and more but at least we have an idea of Verizon’s roadmap for the following months.

Remember that BlackBerry Storm 2 video that described in great detail the new Storm? Well we have another one and this time the video will show you how the touchscreen really works. It looks like the Storm 2 will use piezo electronics to detect pressure on the screen. The screen’s surface seems to be more rigid while the phone is locked and spongy-like while the phone is turned on. The video above has all the secrets of the Storm 2 and there’s even a comparison between the Storm 2 and the original Storm 1.

In case you’re not going to wait for the BlackBerry Bold 9700, then maybe the Storm 2 9550 is the next BlackBerry in your life. And the phone has decided to star in a brand new video.

Check out the video above and you’ll see for yourself that the phone is a lot better than its predecessor. Sure we like the backlit buttons, the metal battery door and the chrome but what we really like is the SurePress screen which will only respond to your touch when the phone is in use. And the Storm 2 seems to be a pretty fast device especially since the OS in the video is not the final version. You have lots of memory to play with, great speakers, a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and BlackBerry Messenger.

The Storm 2 looks better and better and while we don’t want to presume it’s going to be an iPhone killer we sure expect it to be quite popular among RIM fans and not only. We’re just hoping that the phone in the video is the real thing. After all, why shouldn’t it be?

Verizon has apparently decided to drop most smartphone prices down to only $99 when customers choose a new two-year agreement thus matching that AT&T $99 iPhone pricing. That means phones like the HTC Touch Pro, the BlackBerry Storm and many others will now be available for $99 with new contracts. The BlackBerry Tour and the Samsung Saga will still cost more than $99 and the upcoming Touch Pro2 and Storm 2 are definitely going to be a little more expensive too when Verizon will officially launch them. What $99 smartphone are you going to choose?

It looks like Verizon is gearing up to bring the fabled Storm 2 to market as they have recently announced a price cut for RIM’s original Blackberry Storm.

As you can see above, the price has been cut to just $99.99 after a 2-year contract from it’s previous $199.99 debut price point.

I don’t know about you guys but I was never a fan of the clicky-touch-screen but if you’re into that kind of thing now is your perfect chance to pick up a Storm.

Verizon means business when it comes to the BlackBerry Storm 2. The phone has been spotted in Verizon’s inventory system and as you can see the Storm 2 is indeed the BlackBerry 9550 which we have shown you already. Unfortunately the device listed isn’t a fully functional one. It’s just a dummy unit but we can easily assume the real thing will be coming soon. And someone from RIM or Verizon will probably leak that info so all we need to do is wait it out.

Are you waiting for that new BlackBerry Storm 2 smartphone? Well we have some updates on that Berry although there’s nothing official just yet. It seems that the 9550 is the phone that’s going to be called the Storm 2. Here’s what we can expect from the 9550:

  • CDMA 1xRTT/EVDO Rev. A
  • Quad-band GSM/EDGE
  • Single-band UMTS/HSDPA (2100MHz only)
  • Wi-Fi b/g
  • 3.2 megapixel camera
  • 360×480 resolution capacitive screen
  • OS 5.0

As you can see, the 9550 comes with WiFi support and we should expect Verizon and Vodafone to launch the phone by the end of the year. We’ll be looking for more information from RIM concerning the future of its touchscreen smartphones. Anyone excited about the Storm 2?

We all love a good rumor from time to time and we have stumbled across quite a few Vodafone-related rumors for you. First off it seems that there’s a Nokia N97 Mini which will be launched by Vodafone sometime soon. The Mini version should be cheaper but the truth is that there’s no official news yet about such a phone.

Besides the N97 Mini, Vodafone is said to also sell the BlackBErry Storm 2 later this year and as for the Palm Pre it seems that a different carrier will pick this phone up exclusively.

Remember that rumor saying that AT&T is going to sell the Palm Pre soon? Well it looks like Verizon Wireless is going to launch the Pre too. And Verizon has a date for it. In the following six months Verizon Wireless will get the Palm Pre and the BlackBerry Storm 2. It looks like Verizon is going to be hotter than ever in a few months. The carrier will also receive some Android handsets for its customers to play with but we’ll give you more precise details once we get them ourselves. Sprint should better make the most of the Pre as it looks like its exclusivity deal is going to be much shorter than expected.

Is Verizon in a hurry to launch the BlackBerry Storm 2? When Verizon launched the first Storm not everything went exactly according to plan. We all remember the software glitches and that feeling that RIM could have use a few more weeks of actual work on the device.

According to rumors coming from inside Verizon, employees are already training for the BlackBerry Storm 2. The phone could arrive as early as this month even before the Tour. Will anyone choose the Storm 2 over the Pre of the new iPhone? Will the Storm 2 launch go flawlessly this time?
