256GB SSD aren’t available just anywhere. Micron and Toshiba have their own models and Samsung has launched its own. The SSD follows the 128GB SSD release and at this rate who knows where Samsung is going to stop. The drive will get you 220MB/s read speed and 200MB/s write speed. Not as fast as Microns’ drive but faster than Toshiba’s. We’ll let you know more about prices and availability when we have those details too!

In the inside you can find an Intel Atom processor at 1.1GHz or 1.33GHz depending on what you need, and the memory RAM can go from 512MB up to 1GB of DDR2. The new entry-level MacBook Air is not available for shipping just yet. The thin Apple laptop is going to arrive in your home some time after Thanksgiving, and that’s official:
Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship your MacBook Air by the date originally quoted to you. We now anticipate shipping the item by 11/24/08 and delivering by 11/29/08.
In case you ordered one already, you may change the order or cancel it, if you don’t want to wait it out. It looks like the problem is the HDD. All 1.6GHz models equipped with a SATA hard drive are pushed back 2-3 weeks. A 1.6GHz or 1.86GHz Air with a SSD drive will ship as expected within 3-5 days.

Yesterday we mentioned the new Luxio USB Flash Drives presented by Super Talent, and today the news are related to their fresh SATA-II SSD drives, which will become available for purchase later this week at reasonable prices.
The codename of the new SSD Drives is MasterDrive LX, and its capacity can either be 64GB or 128GB. According to Super Talent, the devices are resistant to shock + vibration, and unlike others this unit works in silence. In terms of technical specifications, we have NAND flash, SATA-II 3Gpbs interface, and a great speed of 100MB/sec on reading mode, or 40MB/sec on write mode.

The DosPara Prime SSD-RAID is probably one of the most expensive desktop computers you’ve seen in recent weeks, thanks to the $9,300 price tag and the use of a SSD-RAID system.
By using six units of an Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB SSD drive, the total storage capacity goes up to 480GB, and the reading speed hits the top at 1119.73MB/sec. On top of the high-speed read/write speeds, the (close to) $10,000 PC boasts an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 at 3.16GHz, 4GB on the RAM memory, a normal SATA2 Hard-Drive with 80GB, and a NVidia GeForce 9600GT.

And the world moves one step closer to a hard drive-less existence.
Seagate has announced that it will enter the market for solid-state drives next year, slowly replacing hard drives. The company is defensive of the move, stating that it will take things slowly, first targeting corporate customers. Once it has won over cubicle commandos, it will then target consumers.
Despite all this, the company comes late to the party, as Intel has already started shipping SSDs for both enterprise and consumer markets, and Samsung is now the current consumer market champion. However, Seagate is a big company and a major player in the HDD market, so let’s see how well things play out for them.

MLC technology or multi-level-cell technology has been included in the new Toshiba SSD drives. These come in 8G, 16GB, 32GB and 250GB. What happened with the gap? Nothing in between 32GB and 256GB? Netbooks and desktops/laptops versions right? (more…)

Don’t surprised that Intel know how to make other PC components besides their usual chips and motherboards. They have new SSD ready to ship and they are going to be pretty expensive. (more…)

I don’t know if this cuts cake or not, but Toshiba’s Portege R500-12Q, rebranded for US as the R500-S5007V, still remains the first laptop to have 128GB of SSD sweetness, while being thin and light at the same time. There is no word on when it will become available, but at $3000, I would give the MacBook Air a pass any day over this.
Here is what you will get if you pony up $2,999:

Toshiba have released their smallest hard drive so far to pack such a punch, proving that it’s not the size of the HDD that actually matters.
The new 1.8 inch HDD from Toshiba, called the MK617GSG, will be available in their line of laptops starting this August. Curios about specs? This Toshiba packs 80 or 160GB and spins at 5400rpm. This is basically a step forward since similar sized hard drives in the past wouldn’t go past the 4200rpm barrier.

Samsung will be selling this brand new 256GB SSD starting September. SSD drives slowly make their way into our lives and hopefully they’ll get cheaper and cheaper. While we don’t yet have a price on this piece we can tell you this MLC-flash DATA II drive will have speeds of up to 200Mbps read and 160Mbps write.
