Samsung has a new mid-range device for its home turf, the SCH-B900.  Resembling the Star in its form factor and basic design, the B900 goes for a different navpad instead of the square that we see on the Samsung Star.  The specs are a bit toned down compared to Samsung’s other touchscreen devices, but for a mid-range device, the B900 seems properly loaded with a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display, TouchWiz UI, T-DMB mobile TV receiver, EV-DO network support, a 3 megapixel camera, GPS, a microSD slot, and Bluetooth.  Nice little package, but unless you are living in South Korea and subscribe to SK Telecom, we are pretty sure you won’t be able to get one.

  • No, it’s not the Windows phone that made news back in February but a slider model numbered SCH-W820/SPH-W8200 that’s prettied up by Giorgio Armani.  But the W820’s features more than make up for the lack of WM6.5, with a 3.1-inch AMOLED WVGA touchscreen display, a 5-megapixel camera, HSDPA network speeds, Bluetooth, and a T-DMB tuner and tells the world that it is an Armani phone with the designer’s logo slapped prominently on to its bezel and a gold side plate to complement the whole package.  The device seems headed for a place on South Korea’s KTF and SKT carriers, but there are no details on what it costs or whether this will ever break out of the Korean realm.

Going back to the those good old days of the RAZR yet again, Motorola has announced a new handset, the MOTO Titan, for SK Telecom in South Korea.  The same flip phone form factor shows either Motorola’s undying love for the design or may be its feeling that it hasn’t milked the RAZR cow enough just yet, even after they have started exploring other greener vistas.  The Titan doesn’t have much new to write home about, but Motorola has crammed in a lot of features in a body as thin as 50mm. The clamshell features WCDMA2100, GSM 900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps network support, SKT T-map GPS navigation, Video on Demand service support, an mp3 player, a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 connectivity, and microSD support that can take storage up to 4GB. The internal display is made of a 2.2-inch 262k TFT LCD while the external stays satisfied with a 1.6-inch 120×160 65k LCD with touch-sensitive controls. We don’t know when it will start selling in other parts of the world but the MOTO Titan is already available in South Korea with an undisclosed price tag.

Samsung has just announced that their SCH-W8300 handset is now available in South Korea on the LGT, SKT and KTF carriers.

This device features a 2MP camera, spring loaded flip design and a special external display capable of producing a “variety of illumination and light effects”. Other specs include GSM/3G HSDPA support, preloaded games and gesture control.

When I say gesture control I mean you can turn your phone face down to ignore a call. Pretty cool right?

No word on a release date for the new phone yet.

Samsung has recently announced that their AMOLED touting YP-M1 PMP has officially been made available in South Korea.

This device, other than a 3.3″ AMOLED touchscreen display, features 8, 16, or 32GB of internal torage, a DMB TV tuner, and support for just about every type of media file you can think of.

Unfortunately no word on a worldwide release but as always, we’ll keep you posted.

The tech industry is full of copy cats; touchscreen phones, netbooks, you name it, one company comes up with the idea and are then copied shortly after. Don’t get me wrong, this is just how business works and is good for us consumers because it means cheaper prices. However, it does make the fact that Samsung is debuting their SNE-50K eBook reader a bit less surprising.

The SNE-50K will feature a 5-inch touchscreen, 512MB of storage and no WiFI or 3G connectivity. However, the device shipping in South Korea will be just 9mm thick and weigh 6.5 ounces and will be able to grab books from Kyobo Bookstore. Think South Korea’s Barnes & Noble.

Anyways, there’s no pricing or worldwide availability on the SNE-50K but we’ll keep you posted.

When Motorola’s original RAZR hit the scene it effectively took the world by storm. Consumers near-and-far were attracted to its sleek design despite it not featuring any ground breaking features.

Well here we are years later and the RAZR is still popular enough that Motorola has releases a LuK Hot Pink version for the South Korean market. Technology has progressed a bit, and so has this phone. The LuK Hot Pink RAZR will feature 7.2Mbps HSDPA, video call capabilities and Bluetooth.

Of course, it’s ~$400 price tag probably wouldn’t spurr up much interest here in the States but perhaps the Korean market will take to it better.

What’s the best Internet connection you have ever used? If you live in South Korea, that connection seems ready to receive a significant upgrade. According to a proposal made by the Korea Communications Commission, broadband internet will become ten times faster by 2012.

The sum required to make all that possible? $24.6 billion. The government will pay a third of that while the rest will come from telecommunication companies.

My laptop battery can give me just under 3 hours of juice, which is far under my needs. But it looks like that might change in the future. Some smart researchers at Hanyang University in South Korea have new Lithium batteries that can last eight times longer than current models.

How did they do it? By using cathode materials in the batteries and replacing the less-efficient graphite with more-efficient silicon. Does that mean I am going to get a 24-hour battery? Well I certainly hope so!

Pantech has launched another mobile phone under its Sky branding, the IM-S380K. This new slider is HSDPA capable, so KTF users can be sure that they will be able to stay connected at pretty good speeds at any given time. There’s a front-facing camera for video calling and a dedicated button for quick email access, but otherwise, the features are pretty usual with an FM radio, music player, Bluetooth, electronic dictionary, and memory expansion. Look for it to show up on KTF, South Korea, in colors of white, pink, and black during the coming months for 400000 KRW (approx. $355).
