Sony should work harder on that PSP phone! If they don’t then everyone will soon start purchasing iPhones and iPods to play cool games while on the go. The new iPhone 3GS is definitely a better gaming platform than its predecessors and games like the Quake trilogy will be easily adapted for it.
Quake 1, 2 and Arena are said to be available soon for the iPhone which means you’ll be able to enjoy once again a game that you’ve played for hours when you were younger. Besides Quake you can expect to play other similar titles like Wolfenstein RPG, Doom 2 RPD and Doom Classic on the iPhone 3GS. Would it be too much to ask for multiplayer modes for some of these games?

There’s good news for everyone charging their phones in Europe. It looks like there’s a phone charging standard coming to all those European handset owners. The European Commission has received today confirmation for that micro-USB charging socket from the most important names in the mobile business. Nokia, Sony, Ericsson, Motorola, Apple, LG, NEC, Qualcomm, RIM, Samsung and Texas Instruments are all going to play ball and we should expect them to launch devices ready to be charged via a micro-USB charger sometime next year. On the long run the micro-UBS standard could be adopted by other markets too since CTIA, OMTP and the GSM Association also support it. Can’t wait for the day when I won’t hate myself for forgetting a certain phone charger! What are your thoughts on this?

Most mobile phones have taken a different route. Ideally, phones would integrate games with the standard mobile device we use today. But as far as Sony is concerned, it is the other way around. For their Sony PSP, a gadget that is familiar to us as a gaming device, rumors are flying around that it will be made as a mobile phone as well. Wise decision?
Some may like it while others may not. But it does make you wonder, bulky as the PSP may be, how would it fare compared to the slimmer and portable types such as the iPhone? Are we going to see a new PSP design soon?
If Sony is dead serious on this niche, well, one thing we can look forward to is the design outcome. We may soon see a slimmer and lighter PSP it all pushes through. But now, the next challenge awaits and a big question comes into mind; Is it worth turning a successful gadget into another niche where is may find itself crawling back to the top?

There’s nothing certain just yet but we may see Palm’s webOS on gadgets other than Palm’s. In the latest quarterly results conference call, Palm’s CEO Jon Rubinstein and CFO Doug Jeffries said that in the future, licensing that marvelous OS running on the Pre to third parties will not be “a religious issue”.
Palm has shared its previous OS with Sony for the Clie PEG-NZ90 so we might see that happen again. Sony Ericsson could definitely use webOS on one of its hottest phones, right? Unfortunately that will happen sometime in the distant future as there are “no plans at this time to even talk about” webOS licenses. What we’re really more interested in are future Palm handsets with webOS running in the background. Unfortunatelly none was yet unveiled in said conference call.

This is a nice but unexpected surprise! In case that there still are PlayStation 3 lovers out there, they should know that Sony might finally drop the price. According to rumors such a move will be made at the same time EA Sport will release the next Madden version this fall so you’ll still have to wait a while before getting a cheaper Playstation 3.
Considering that the PS3 has been trailing behind the Wii and the Xbox 360 for a while now, Sony should definitely charge less for it. Or can we go ahead and speculate that a new PlayStation console is going to arrive soon and therefore the price cut is absolutely necessary?

Google’s Android will have a bright future in the gadgets’ world. And it’s not just cell phones anymore. Android is getting ready to be used in netbooks and tablets and, from the looks of it, in Walkmans too. That’s right people, Sony is considering the Android platform for its future Walkman line. In fact the company might develop a common platform for MP3 players, mobile phones and Internet devices which will be entirely based on Android.
In a world dominated by the iPod, an Android music player capable of other tricks than just playing music would definitely stand out in the MP3 players crowd. We have no confirmation from Sony that indeed this is the way to go, but we can always hope that the next generation X-Series Walkman will come with Android inside.

Considering the apps that have come out at the Apple app store, you can bet that Apple has carefully taken that into consideration as far as conceptualizing the highly anticipated next iPhone. And while we all know that the iPhone has many uses, it seems Apple is planning to transform this mobile device into a gaming device as well, equipped with more features to complement the 3D graphics that is expected to highlight it as well.
As well as an improved 3D graphics chip for better visuals the phone will have better Bluetooth support for add-ons like game controllers and a higher-speed network suited to MMO games like World of Warcraft, which was earlier spotted on an iPhone.
This new features are to be expected. Today we see a lot of iPhone users going crazy over the apps they can get and a lot of them have come from familiar game consoles and platforms. The move is likewise seen as the incremental penetration of Apple into the gaming market so don’t be surprised to see Nintendo and Sony studying the moves of Apple from hereon.

Not long ago we told you how people say Ericsson is interested in leaving Sony for good and Sony is trying to come up with the funds required to buyout its partner. It looks like that was all a rumor as s Ericsson isn’t going anywhere. A new report from Dow Jones is confirming that Ericsson “has no plans to abandon its joint venture Sony Ericsson.” I guess we don’t need more confirmation than that. Although Sony might indeed be thinking differently about the whole issue.

No official statements have been made yet so we’re still looking for confirmation for this one.

Sony Ericsson’s Idou is a 12 megapixel camera phone which might make an impression once it arrives. The handset will be a great tool for both mobile entertainment and fast communication and it looks like Sony Ericsson has prepared a Stylus which seems destined to go with the handset. Sony Ericsson hasn’t made it clear if the stylus will be bundled with the Idou or if you will have to get it separately. But it’s good to know that we’ll have an alternative to our fingers to control this device.
