  • Wistron Firstbook

Here is a great new device that techie people will love. If you are envious about the Sony Vaio users, here is an alternative mobile computing device you can consider getting. It is the Wistron Firstbook.

The Wistron Firstbook will have the ARM Snapdragon processor running within, and also holds the distinction of being the first Linux-based netbook. The Firstbook shares some resemblance to a Sony Vaio P and features the following:

    • integrated 3G WWAN connectivity
    • 11.1″ widescreen display
    • Bluetooth
    • Wi-Fi support

It remains to be seen though if the Wistron Snapdragon netbook will make it to the masses, or is just a demonstration platform for ARM.

    Sony Vaio VGN-SR390 Laptop

When you talk about laptops, the Sony Vaio is certain to be among the tops brands one would think of.

The Sony VAIO SR390 can be one of the least expensive of the company’s ultraportable laptops but it also lacks the performance that can be found for less from other companies or with more features for the same cost.

It comes with a LED backlit display that provides some excellent color without producing too much glare from the glossy coating. The keyboard design is also very comfortable and easy to use.

The big problem with the VAIO SR390 is its cost. While it is relatively affordable for a Sony laptop, there are offerings from other brands that offer a similar level of features that cost less or provide even more features and performance for the same price. This makes the Sony really only a strong choice for those looking for a system with a very strong display or just have to own a Sony laptop.

  • Sony went ahead and launched their new Vaio laptops on Monday evening as we’ve told you before. And they are all special notebooks. The four new Vaio notebooks are the 16.4 inch Vaio FW, the 15.4-inch Vaio BZ the 13.3 inch Vaio SR, and the 13.1 inch Vaio Z. Let’s take a brief look at these Centrino 2 powered new Vaio lines.

The Vaio FW is a 16.4 inch laptop. Weird size you say? We might see it more often. This screen size will get you that 16:9 aspect ratio for HD Blu-ray content. This laptop weighs a little over 6 pounds which is quite remarkable given the bigger screen. The FW will be available later in July with prices starting from $1,000.

The Vaio BZ is a 15.4 laptop designed for business. It weighs a little under 6 pounds but it offers some smart business solutions. You get a hard drive shock protection system, a spill resistant keyboard and a magnesium-alloy case. The BZ will be the only Vaio to include Intel’s vPro management software and the Vaio Care support package. The pricing will start at $1,000 and you will get one by the end of July

The Vaio SR is a 13.3 highly portable laptop. It comes in five colors and weighs about 4 pounds. There’s a backlit-LED display, a webcam and microphone and a hard drive shock protection system. You will get one starting from $1,400 by the end of July.

The Vaio Z is a 13.3 laptop. It must be even more portable than the 13.3 inch SR model. It weighs a little over 3 pounds and features hard drive shock protection system, a fingerprint reader, the Trusted Platform Module and a password protected hard drive. All you need is a password protected sleeve that might perfectly fit into the password protected bag of your choice. Optionally you get an 128 SSD, WWAN, Blu-ray drive and HDMI-out port. The prices start at $1,800 or $2,300 depending on whether you chose the SSD or not. The Vaio Z is going to be customizable from August, if that’s what you want.

Which model do you like best?
