  • Samsung’s Got Soul

    Samsung_Soul.jpg

Classy enough to be carried in say, a game of golf with your bosses, and yet spunky enough for a night out with friends — that is what Soul of Samsung is. And by soul, I meant Samsung’s new handset — the Soul. Why “Soul” say you? Soul is short for “the Spirit Of ULtra” as a memento for completion of Samsung’s Ultra Series. The half-inch thin phone captures the hearts of many with mere pictures of it with its sliding frame and 5-megapixel camera. It features High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) network access and a microSD card slot. A quad-band phone, the Samsung Soul boasts the Magic Touch technology which changes the indicators in the keypad as you navigate. Say, the lights change when you’re using the camera, and then changes again when you’re playing music. No price on this baby yet, but the Soul will be rolling out by April of 2008.

    Voyager by LG

Verizon unveiled its latest line-up of hot mobile phones for the holiday season. The line-up includes:

    Juke by Samsung
The Juke is a swivel-design mobile phone that you have to flick open 180 degrees to reveal the keypad. Available in s teeny-tiny form factor, the phone features 2GB of internal storage (fancy term for saying there is no support for additional storage). Verizon calls it a fashion-forward fancy phone (ooh), and the Juke, true to its name, handles MP3, WMA and unprotected AAC files.

Pity it comes with just a VGA camera though. Thankfully, Bluetooth stereo support is a saving grace.

    BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Smartphone
The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 Smartphone needs no introduction.

    The Venus by LG
Available in black and pink, the Venus features dual front screens, with the lower portion offering touch input with vibration feedback, designed for quick access to the phone’s features. The Venus is also music-centric and comes in a slider design. With support for microSD memory cards up to 8GB, this is a decent phone compatible with Verizon’s Get It Now downloadable applications and V Cast Video and Music.

Venus can handle MP3/WMA/AAC files and comes with a 2 megapixel camera; it can record video as well.

    The Voyager, also by LG
The Voyager is equipped with a large external touch screen. Open it up laterally and you get a QWERTY keypad to book. It features a web browser, music player and is compatible with high-speed wireless broadband access. Like the Venus, it features a microSD memory card slot for expanding memory up to 8GB.

No info on the pricing yet. The four phones will be available in stores before thanksgiving.

  • Nokia 6500 slide cell phone

The Nokia 6500 slide cell phone, which we recently saw on the Whack, has been granted FCC approval, paving its way into the world markets. Equipped with a 3.2 megapixel on-board camera boasting Carl Zeiss optics, the 6500 slide offers a TV-out jack allowing you to make video calls on your TV. It supports microSD memory cards, and a USB interface for data sync. Push-to-talk facility is available as well, but of course your provider should support it.

The Nokia 6500 slide features a 2.2″ QVGA resolution screen. The camera allows you to capture video as well, but I must say I am looking forward to the TV out functionality more than anything. Up to 4GB microSD memory cards are supported on the device. It also supports Nokia Xpress audio messaging (which requires MMS to be activated on the phone). There’s also a full-fledged email client and IM app on the 6500 slide.

The phone appears to be on target for its Q3 2007 release, priced at €370.

    BenQ T33, T51 and E72 Cell Phones

    BenQ T33, T51 Cell Phones

BenQ unveiled three new cell phones targeted at the China market. The BenQ E72, T55 and T33 are the three amigos, with the E72 available in a candy-bar form factor. The cameras come with a 2 megapixel camera, and support the Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) for enjoying stereo music wirelessly. They also come with microSD memory card support.

The T51 is available in a flip design and comes in a highly compact form factor that fits in the palm of your hand. The front of the device, when closed, has music control keys for play/pause, next/previous track and volume controls are available on the side. The T33 on the other hand comes in a slider design. The answer/reject (green/red) buttons on the T33 look a bit weird, like the phone’s eyes or something because of their shape. Photos at a max resolution of 1600×1200 can be taken with these camera phones.

No word on the pricing or availability.
