All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Back in April, Skyfire was looking for Alpha users of its mobile browser. Now after that phase has been done with, Skyfire for the Blackberry announces its beta phase, oozing with enhancements from the previous alpha version.

Among the expected enhancements for the Skyfire Beta version include new keyboard shortcuts and the “Switch to Skyfire” option which is similar to the multi-tabbed browsing we see from Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Other features for the beta version include:

  • Text Entry in Thumbnail view
  • Contextual zoom with Camera Corners

While the Skyfire browser seems to show a lot of improvements from the alpha release, users are warned that it is still not perfect. Errors and slow performance are still being debugged so don’t set your expectations too high.

If you own a BlackBerry smartphone then you might be exactly the person Skyfire is looking for. And you might consider looking for it too since it could be exactly the mobile Internet browser you are looking for. Skyfire hasn’t created one for BlackBerries just yet but it looks like they’re working on it. In fact testing is about to start soon with Bold users then Curve, Pearl and 8830 phones.

Here’s what Skyfire is saying so far:

Hello,
You sent us an email asking about Skyfire for the BlackBerry. We are looking for early Alpha testers to help us develop Skyfire for BlackBerry. If you like to be the first on the block, and on the bleeding edge (bugs!), please sign up and give us a steady stream of feedback so together we can make browsing on the BlackBerry the best it can be.

To participate, you will need:

  • BlackBerry Bold, Curve, Pearl or 8830 (Note: we are kick starting the alpha with the Bold)
  • Live in the US
  • Participate under NDA
  • Post your feedback and experience in our User Forum
  • Be capable and willing to install new alpha releases as we publish them

If you’d like to participate, please send an email to [redacted] and tell us

  • Preferred email address
  • Cellular carrier
  • BlackBerry model
  • BlackBerry phone number (to send you links to download)

We’ll send you the NDA and details about the program.

Thanks,
Skyfire Support
