Samsung has a new mid-range device for its home turf, the SCH-B900.  Resembling the Star in its form factor and basic design, the B900 goes for a different navpad instead of the square that we see on the Samsung Star.  The specs are a bit toned down compared to Samsung’s other touchscreen devices, but for a mid-range device, the B900 seems properly loaded with a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display, TouchWiz UI, T-DMB mobile TV receiver, EV-DO network support, a 3 megapixel camera, GPS, a microSD slot, and Bluetooth.  Nice little package, but unless you are living in South Korea and subscribe to SK Telecom, we are pretty sure you won’t be able to get one.

  • Going back to the those good old days of the RAZR yet again, Motorola has announced a new handset, the MOTO Titan, for SK Telecom in South Korea.  The same flip phone form factor shows either Motorola’s undying love for the design or may be its feeling that it hasn’t milked the RAZR cow enough just yet, even after they have started exploring other greener vistas.  The Titan doesn’t have much new to write home about, but Motorola has crammed in a lot of features in a body as thin as 50mm. The clamshell features WCDMA2100, GSM 900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps network support, SKT T-map GPS navigation, Video on Demand service support, an mp3 player, a 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 connectivity, and microSD support that can take storage up to 4GB. The internal display is made of a 2.2-inch 262k TFT LCD while the external stays satisfied with a 1.6-inch 120×160 65k LCD with touch-sensitive controls. We don’t know when it will start selling in other parts of the world but the MOTO Titan is already available in South Korea with an undisclosed price tag.

We have seen many 8mpx cameraphones come and go, but this is a first for the Korean market.  Apart from its 8-megapixel lens, Samsung SCH-W740 or the Haptic 8M has other features that are equally high-end and include a big 800×480 pixel touchscreen display and support for HSUPA for up to 5.7 Mbps.  There is also a T-DMB receiver thrown in for good measure along with Bluetooth 2.0, and a business card scanner.  A host of other camera-centric features like auto focus, face tagging, smile recognition, and a Xenon flash are available.  One feature that sets the Haptic 8M aside from the other 8mpx shooters is its ability to translate a document to English automatically from a picture.  There is no indication anywhere that the handset supports haptic feedback, as one might be led to believe by its name.

The Samsung Haptic 8M will be available from SK Telecom for 900,000 KRW or about 660 American greens.

    MotoRazr Gold Mobile Phone

Motorola has decided to announce a new Razr phone, covered in gold. We’re looking for Moto to launch hot new phones and maybe it’s time the company decided to quit launching new Razr handsets. This one will not impress you with its specs but with that 18K white gold and with that gold plated keypad. Besides all that gold that you’ll have features like 3G, Bluetooth and USB 2.0 connectivity, better speakers and support for video calls and multimedia playback. The phone should arrive from SK Telecom in Korea but you’d have to check with your local carriers to see if Motorola will bring it to other markets too. And while you’re at it, ask for pricing details too!

Looking for a cute phone for your lady? LG has just introduced a new phone for here. The “make-up” phone or the LG-SH490 has a shiny colored case with various designs. It comes with a 2.4 inch QVGA internal display and a 1.1 inch external display. The 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, music and video playing capabilities and the 512MB of internal memory are all under this clamshell’s case. The phone will be available in three colors with fancy names: Smoky Red, Deep Blue and Pearl White. There’s no word on pricing and availability although we heard SK Telecom is going to launch it soon.

LG has unveiled its latest touchscreen phone called the SU100 at the Korean Electronics Show 2008 recently. Apart from a humongous 3-inch OLED touchscreen display, the SU100 also has a 3-megapixel camera, S-DMB TV receiver, worldwide roaming, Bluetooth, web browser, and an electronic dictionary. LG has also included an digital version of the popular Franklin planner, which is designed to make managing time much easier. For those who have no inkling as to what a Franklin planner is, just know that it’s a ring binder with lots of pages and accessories to consolidate tasks, appointments, and records to effectively manage what little time that we have.

The LG SU100 will be available on Korea’s SK Telecom carrier network before the end of the year at an unknown price.

Motorola has a new PEBL phone for the Korean market. The new PEBL will be offered by SK Telecom and it will feature fast 3G connections with HSDPA speeds of 7.2MBps. Other than 3G there’s not much really: a 3.5 mm headset jack, an Mp3 player, a 2.0 megapixels camera and Bluetooth connectivity.

So if you want to get a purple PEBL, head on over to Korea and check with SK Telecom. If not, might as well wait for the next Motorola release.

Sprint has recently bought Nextel and we all know that. Now it’s rumored that SK Telecom is looking to acquire Sprint Nextel. Are we going to have an SK Telecom Sprint Nextel name here? Is this what the third American carrier will look like?

CNBC has reported SK Telecom’s interest in Sprint Nextel, but the sale is far from completed. SK Telecom, South Korea’s top wireless provider, is looking for a friendly merger and isn’t planning a hostile take over. Or so they say. In the mean time members of the Sprint’s board aren’t that happy with such an outcome and I don’t think they will change their minds soon. After all Sprint isn’t doing so bad are they? Of course they could benefit from such an agreement but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bound to happen. And when it happens, we’re going to be there for the coverage.
