The thought of Best Buy receiving a mere 4 Palm Pre’s per store is quite mindboggling but luckily Sprint has stepped in to comfort us a bit.
The Boy Genius Report has quoted the wireless carrier as saying:
At Sprint, we’re excited by the response to the Palm Pre, but what’s been posted is pure speculation. Because of the Pre’s popularity, it’s likely that initially we won’t be able to keep up with the demand for the device. If that happens, we will work diligently to ensure that everyone who wants a Pre can get one as soon as possible.
So yeah, don’t expect the Palm Pre to sell out like Nintendo’s Wii did when it first hit store shelves but chances are if you’re looking to purchase this phone you’ll probably have to do some shopping around.

You know what’s really strange now that I think of it? Everyone got totally excited about the Pre being officially announced by Sprint but nobody noticed how no European carrier hurried to announce the phone for Europe. And I am sure lots of Europeans are more than interested in the Pre.
The Guardian is reporting that O2 has snatched an exclusive deal with Palm and the carrier will bring the GSM Pre this year. Unfortunately rumors say that O2 will launch the Pre before Christmas as it will deal primordially with the new iPhone over the summer. Are we to assume that Palm won’t have enough Pre stock for Europe anyway? I mean we are already expecting CDMA Pre shortages so GSM Pre shortages are only logical.
On a different note, is Vodafone and Orange going to sit quietly and take it? If you know what carrier is bringing the Pre in your country, make sure you drop us a line too.

We are expecting Sprint Pre shortages soon and it looks like Sprint does too. What’s weird about it is the fact that Sprint, according to president and CEO, Dan Hesse, does not want to take advantage of such a shortage situation. Hesse says that Sprint “didn’t intend to advertise [the Pre] heavily early on because we think we are going to have shortages for a while”. More importantly, Sprint “won’t be able to keep up with demand for the device in the early period of time.” There’s definitely something wrong with that. Sprint doesn’t want to build momentum and increase the buzz around the Pre? The phone is undoubtedly going to bring lots of cash to Sprint so the carrier should really consider taking advantage of any foreseen shortages. That means advertising, advertising and more advertising.

Despite the fact the 3G iPhone is unavailable in various worldwide locations, Apple is going to release it in 20 more countries besides the initial 22. August 22nd is the day the iPhone will come to the rest of the world. Well not the rest, as there should be at least 30 more countries to still get it.

With shortages reported everywhere in the US yesterday, some were estimating the new iPhone shipments to arrive sometime in the following weeks. Well it appears Apple’s supply line from Asia is working better. Important Apple shops in New York and California had both iPhone versions in stock today. Well technically there are three iPhone versions, the 8GB Black, the 16GB Black and the 16GB White. Exactly the colors AT&T had suggested a long time ago.

We’ve read numerous reports about various carriers going out of iPhones around the globe. Most of them come from the USA where lots of AT&T stores are waiting for new Apple shipments to arrive. Don’t be surprised if AT&T personnel will greet you this way:

With the recent shortage of both 8GB and 16GB iPhone version, I am sure that some people thought about getting the HiPhone, probably not knowing 3G is coming sooner than soon.
HiPhone is, according to some standards, the best iPhone knock off. And I am sure there are a lot of them. You’d have to congratulate the Chinese people for their ability to clone any technological device no matter what size or what costs in order to make a profit. At some point they will be knocking off their knock offs right?
Of course Apple can’t do anything about that but they can certainly take action against all those distributors selling the HiPhone. In Europe Apple’s counsel Bird & Bird has issued notices threatening over €40,000 both in legal and damages fees for at least one HiPhone provider.
