All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Sure, we’ve seen pictures of the Motorola Sholes before but they have all been blurry, too small, or just downright unpleasent to look at.

Today, BGR has gotten their hands on the above picture of the device and for once you can actually see all of its features. Of course, there isn’t much we don’t already know; it’s a slider, it’s shipping for Verizon Wireless and it runs Android.

We’ll keep you updated regarding a release date.

If that Motorola Droid seems rather strange to you well then we’ll happily remind you that you already know it as the Tao or the Sholes. The phone is supposed to be the first Android handset coming to Verizon Wireless and now we have some leaked info which point to a October 30 release date. The picture here shows a Verizon Wireless screenshot. The Motorola Sholes can be clearly read in that October 30 box so we naturally assume that the phone is coming at the end of the month. Wait a minute there… are we calling it the Sholes again? Someone has to make up their mind regarding the name of this first Verizon Android phone. We really don’t care how you call it as long as you stick to a single name!

We have referred to it as the Sholes and the Tao but it looks like the first Android phone coming from Verizon will be called the Droid. And we’ll start straight with some bad news! The Droid will be a clean Android phone with no MOTOBLUR on top of it. Sadly, and for whatever reason, someone decided that the phone shouldn’t have Motorola’s highly customized social networking interface.

Here’s what specs you can expect from the Droid:

  • 3.7-inch screen
  • 854×480 WVGA capacitive screen
  • 5-megapixel camera
  • ARM Cortex 500MHz CPU
  • Facial recognition using the built-in camera
  • Custom Motorola Interface/UI
  • Available in black and titanium

And if you want a keyboard-less version of the Droid then you’re going to get one sometime in 2010. So what do you say? Anxious about any of these two Droid versions?

  • For the moment CLIQ is the hot Android phone coming from Motorola via T-Mobile. But fear not Moto fans, CLIQ has a worthy follower or so we suspect. The Tao or Sholes or however they decide to call it at launch, has been spotted in the wild running Android. What other OS would it run? As you can see the phone was running Google Maps at the time the picture was taken and you can also see it’s going to offer us a pretty impressive 1390mAh battery. We have no more details at this point in time but in Verizon we trust to launch the phone already!

    Motorola A855 Sholes FCC Approved

Motorola got its latest handset FCC approval branded as the Motorola Tao. The new handset supports EVDO Rev A and also comes equipped with WiFi 802.11. Among the striking features include a QWERTY keyboard, a 3.7” touchscreen display and a built-in 5 megapixel camera. It also has a built-in memory of 512MB, GPS, memory card slots for microSD/microSDHC and a 3.5 mm audio jack. The phone is slated to become available by October.

Motorola’s first Android phone, the Cliq, is not the hottest Android phone available out there but it’s certainly one of the hottest Motorola phones ever created. The phone will be available this fall from T-Mobile but Moto will not stop here. The manufacturer will be launching a lot more Android phones in the near future so you’d better get used to that MOTOBLUR social networking interface quick. And in case you assumed T-Mobile will be the designated carrier for future Motorola Android phones then you were totally wrong. According to Sanjay Jha, Moto’s CEO, the company is in talks with “all large operators in the US” which means that your favorite carrier is going to get a Motorola Android phone in the near future. So far we know that the Sholes is headed to Verizon Wireless but we assume Sprint and AT&T are also going to be interested in getting some Moto Android action.

Above is a recently leaked Verizon document that gives us a hint at the release window for a few forthcoming handsets.

Said handsets are the BlackBerry Storm 2, Motorola Sholes and LG vx8575 “Chocolate Touch” which are all listed to be launching in October. Now, we’ve heard about the Storm 2 and Sholes for some time now but not the vx8575. Although, the “Chocolate Touch” moniker leads us to believe that this will be a Verizon variation of the LG’s highly anticipated BL40.

So folks, if you’re Verizon contract is up soon you may want to wait until October before you consider a new handset.

We were waiting for ever for Motorola to come clean with its Android phones. We’ve seen various leaked shots and we know Moto has been working hard on Android phones and if this whole investment doesn’t pay off, Moto might soon swim with the fishes. The company has scheduled a special event on September 10 in San Francisco in which it will present its creations. We’re counting on the Morrison and the Sholes to be unveiled but we wouldn’t mind seeing something totally new. What do you think? Ready for an Android phone in your life?

Although it’s still the weekend, we’ve seen lots of leaked stuff these days and we’re about to see some more! It looks like Verizon Wireless has decided to leak release dates for the hot phones that are going to be available from Big Red at some point in the future. And here are some of the hottest handsets which you can expect from Verizon in the following months:

    • Motorola Sholes – October
    • Nokia Twist 7705 – September - $230
    • LG Chocolate Touch – October- $230
    • HTC Razzle/Blitz 2 – October
    • Samsung Intensity – September - $130
    • BlackBerry Storm 2 – October
    • BlackBerry Curve 2 – November

We’ll just have to wait for the carrier to officially announce these phones and more but at least we have an idea of Verizon’s roadmap for the following months.

Yesterday we gave you a glimpse at a render of Motorola’s Android powered Shules but today we actually have a live shot of the device, pictured above.

It’s a bit blurry but from what you can make out you’ll notice that the phone looks a bit rough around the edges and that’s because it is a pre-production model so expect a lot to change before it hits any carriers. Spec wise, we’re still lookin’ at a 3.7-inch screen, QWERTY keyboard, 5MP camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.

Motorola’s interest in Android devices is well known and we have another candidate rumored to be available from Verizon soon. The Motorola Sholes is the Android phone in question and if you’re interested in unofficial features then you should know this handset will offer you a 3.7-inch touchscreen, CDMA, EV-DO Rev A support, 512MB of storage, 256MB of RAM, microSD and microSDHC support for up to 16GB, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, GPS, USB and WiFi. Verizon should launch it sometime so you’ll have to wait a while if you have just fallen in love with it.
