Sharp NJ70A laptop gets updated

The Sharp NJ70A laptop that was released a few months ago for the Asian market, has received some upgrades and can now be considered much better, because it has an Optical Sensor LCD Pad to work with Windows 7.

As stated before, this netbook is sold in the Asian market, more specifically in Japan, and inside the small beast you can find an Atom N720 processor, a hard-drive with 160GB of storage capacity, and 1GB of memory RAM. In addition to the good operative system - Windows 7 - you also get an Intel 945GSE Express for the graphics card, and a 10-1 inch monitor.

  • Those of you who are missing out on CEATAC Japan should enjoy this shot of Sharp’s new NetWalker PC-Z1. The photo isn’t much to give it scale, but let’s just say it is the missing link between smartphone and netbook.

It has a five inch touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard. It also has an optical pointer, 4 gigabytes of memory, microSD memory, 10 hour battery life, and a USB port. It is scheduled for release in late October for a price of $500, but it will probably be a Japanese only release.

While the solar-powered trend hasn’t really caught on here in the States yet, it’s all the rage in Japan. This spurr of interest has lead NTT DoCoMo to announce the Sharp solar-powered SH-08A, pictured above.

This device will apparantly withstand submersion in water up to a meter and will feature a VGA display, an 8MP camera and 7.2Mbps HSDPA. As for the solar capabilities, you’ll reportedly get 1 minute of talk time for every 10 minutes in the sun. Hey, it’s not much but it’s certainly something.

NTT DoCoMo says that the handset will go on sale in Japan sometime this September.

Well sure it’s a Microsoft phone you’ll say, it will run some sort of Windows Mobile version on it! That’s true but what I mean is that the phone appears to be Microsoft-branded. Could this Pink smartphone project be the first Microsoft phone? Microsoft denied more than once that it’s working on an own mobile device but what if that changed?

Sure maybe Microsoft will not call it a Zune phone in which case the company was awfully right when declaring that no Zune phone is going to be created soon. The Pink phone is said to run on Windows Mobile 7 and we can expect some sort of custom UI on top of the regular OS. Pink is also said to be a Sidekick-like phone and it could be manufactured by Sharp or Motorola. Unfortunately we don’t have any hot details about it!

A lot of questions come to mind but we shall leave them unanswered for now. We’ll be waiting for someone to leak that Pink-related ad campaign that Microsoft is reportedly working on.

    Sharp LR0GC02 Solar Panel

    Sharp LR0GC02 Solar Panel

Recently, Japanese cellular provider KDDI released a Sharp waterproof, solar-powered cell phone, rumored to be renamed the SH002. Growing interest in both photovoltaic power as a green and clean source of energy and solar-powered devices has encouraged Sharp to globally release its new LR0GC02 solar module for mobile devices.

The LR0GC02 solar panel uses compact semiconductor packaging technology, which aids in keeping the panel thickness to a mere 0.8 mm. Sharp claims this is the thinnest level in the industry. The solar cells in the module are based on polycrystalline silicon and produce a top power of 300 milliwatts (mW). As an supplemental power source for mobile devices, the panel is designed to help save energy.

  • Fractus is a Spanish company which you haven’t really gotten to know so far. Now it’s time for it’s moment of glory! Fractus has decided to sue not one, not two, but ten mobile phone manufacturers which apparently have infringed not one, not two, but nine different patents which concern internal antennas.

These manufacturers are: Samsung, LG Electronics, Research In Motion, HTC, Palm, Pantech, Sharp, Kyocera, Sanyo and UTStarcom. And Fractus is a company which holds more than 80 patents worldwide, 30 of them right in the United States. The suit was filed in the USA and we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next. Fractus’s lawyer said:

It is very brave of Fractus to fight against these cell phone companies, many of whom knew about Fractus and its technology yet still continued to infringe. Fractus’s inventions have added tremendous value to both the cell phone user and manufacturer.

The device in the picture is more special than others. It is water-resistant and solar-powerd and it will arrive in Japan this June from KDDI. Sharp is the maker and we might expect it to make similar phones in the near future.

KDDI says that as little as 10 minutes of sun absorption will get you two hours of standby or about a minute of talk time. So what would exactly happen at night? No more phone calls? The sun can charge the 80% of the battery which sounds pretty good. That’s a great device for those people that always forget their chargers. All they would need will be some decent sunlight.

How much would you pay for such a phone? Prices and availability dates haven’t been officially announced yet.

    Sharp Softbank 9225H Handset

CEATEC is a popular IT & Electronics Exhibition that takes place in Japan, and the latest 2008 edition was one week ago - from 30 September to 4 October. One of the cutting-edge devices presented at the expo came from Sharp, and it is named Softbank 9225H.

The handset is a bit strange in terms of design, but in the inside you can find a full QWERTY keyboard which isn’t very common to see in this type of phones.

On the list of specifications the Sharp Softbank 9225H offers 1seg TV tuner, a 2-megapixel camera, a 3.5-inch VGA (internal) screen, a multimedia player, a microSDHC slot to store all the audio and video data, and lastly, e-mail functionality.

  • Sharp’s Life Changing Promotion

If Facebook doesn’t have anymore secrets to you anymore, you must have discovered the LifeChangingBox FaceBook game promoted by Lowe New York a while ago. For about a month, from June to July people had to guess what the product inside the Life Changing Box was. And it proved to be Sharp. Some lucky winners went home with thousands of dollars worth in prizes. And that was just the begining of Sharp’s Life Changing promotion

As you can see in the video Sharp will continuously work to offer us a better LCD experience as they have quite a few years of LCD innovation. Besides that Sharp will work on including solar energy in their production lines so here’s another company thinking eco-friendly thoughts.

And since Sharp is the HDTV official of Major League Baseball you might want to try one of their LCD’s to get the full Olympic action coming from China starting tomorrow. Any sports action will certainly run smoothly on a Sharp LCD.

Now I am only sorry for not getting that much Sharp Facebook time… Not that I would have ever guessed who was in the box!
