As far as USB drives are concerned, security and care for them since they are perceived to contain valuable information was usually left at the hands of the person handling it. Occupation was never seen to be a problem but it looks like SanDisk will be modifying their SanDisk Cruzer Enterprise secure USB Flash Drives anyway. Besides, we have been seeing a lot of USB drives coming out with modified looks and features so why not make one for the federal government.
The new design was tested and certified under Military Standard 810-F environmental standards and also ideal for the visually impaired thanks to the adherence for Section 508 requirements.
The Military Standard 810-F environmental standards obviously tackles the area of information, an aspect that government employees must safeguard since they normally handle critical information. Waterproofing is one thing that they have added to the drives, a rugged feature we have been seeing in most devices today.
And the Section 508 answers the call to make these USB drives as flexible as possible for the disabled. The law was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to provide new opportunities for people with disabilities as well as to encourage the development of technologies that will help achieve these goals.

When it comes to flash drives, all we know is that storage capacity counts. But as far as SanDisk Cruzer is concerned, adding malware protection to help safeguard data seems to have caught the eye of Network Products Guide for its new found innovation. In fact, Sandisk Cruzer Secure USB drives have copped the 2009 Product Innovation award for its unique portable device.
The new features are very much welcome by users these days as we are all aware of security breaches when it comes to portable media that helps us carry our data anywhere. And for addressing that need, Sandisk Corporation gets lauded for this new important feature. The award recognizes vendors from all over the world whose innovative products bring essential changes to the information technology industry.
SanDisk Cruzer Enterprise secure USB drives help businesses mitigate the risk of data loss by imposing mandatory, hardware-based encryption on all files along with password protection to safeguard data stored on company-issued drives.
Cruzer Enterprise with McAfee Malware Protection extends these security defenses with automatic, device-resident malware scanning that prevents malware from attaching itself to the portable drive and in turn, infecting the internal enterprise host.

The SanDisk SlotRadio is a pretty simple device that comes ready to use with a microSD preloaded with 1,000 of hits selected from the Billboard charts. The user can choose from Country, Contemporary, Rock, Alternative, and R & B/Hip Hop If these preloaded tunes aren’t your cup of tea then you can just connect it to your computer and load up the tunes that you do like with drag and drop.
If you want an MP3 player, but don’t want to deal with the hassles of loading, or messing with iTunes, then you don’t have to. In other words, this may be the perfect Portable Media Player (PMP) for those who are not into messing around with electronics for hours on end. The device retails for around $99.00

After an official announcement in September, SanDisk has used the ongoing CES 2009 as the launchpad for its new Mobile Ultra memory cards in the 16GB variety. But unlike the last release where we were treated to 2, 4, and 8GB models in microSD, microSDHC, and M2 iterations, the company has decided to out the new 16GB cards only in microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro versions. Also bundled is a MobileMate Micro Reader with both versions to save you from hunting out a card-reader when needed. Both the varieties carry over the same fast side-loading speeds and a great deal improved transfers. Available this month at $119.99 and $129.99 for the microSDHC and M2 versions respectively.

In order to enter in the market of USB Flash Drives for the Mac platform, SanDisk decided to upgrade the Cruzer Enterprise line, which now works with Mac OS X Tiger or Leopard, and has a 256-bit AES encryption system. In other words, users won’t need to go to a Windows computer if they want to manage passwords or have access to locked folders, instead, they just need to plug-in the pen drive and start working.
So far there is no information about the price or release date, but it is known that the drives will be available in 4 formats - 1B, 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB - and the upgrade is available online on the SanDisk website in a form of a firmware update.

Samsung decide to break up from SanDisk despite the fact they weren’t in fact together. I guess Samsung heard about SanDisk going out with Toshiba and that’s simply unacceptable. In response it has withdrew the initial buyout offer. The $26 per share is history as of today. Below you will find the break up letter itself.

So it’s Toshiba the company SanDisk chose to strike a deal with and not Samsung whom we all suspected. Toshiba will get 30% of SanDisk’s manufacturing capacity in $1 billion deal. The two companies will continue their 50/50 partnership in the remaining 70% of their joint factories. Toshiba will get 65% of the production capacity but I guess that’s what 50/50 means in their language.
Samsung is angry probably. Are they going to up the ante and still go for the complete buyout of SanDisk? They’d have to outbid their former $6 billion buyout offer which was rejected about a month ago. Their royalty arrangement with SanDisk will expire in August 2009. We’ll probably going to see some action by then!

SanDisk is trying to revive the walkman. But instead of tapes, or even CD’s, you use SD cards. SanDisk is launching a portable music player based around its pre-loaded Micro SD card notion. The Sansa SlotMusic Player is designed to take the storage firm’s SlotMusic cards, unveiled last month. Fortunately, it also accepts so-called “self-loaded” Micro SD cards crammed full of your own musical mixtures.
SanDisk teamed up with a stream of artists, including Coldplay and girl-kisser Katy Perry, to launch a series of SD cards with the artists’ albums pre-loaded. The Sansa slotMusic Player comes pre-loaded with an album on a 1GB SlotMusic card, but some of the capacity’s consumed by liner notes, album art and content “personally chosen” by the artist.

SanDisk has officially announced plans to make 16GB microSDHC and M2 cards for mobile phones and other devices that accept such mediums.
This makes the company the only manufacturer of such high-capacity memory cards. It can be noted that not even Sony makes such large capacity M2 cards.
These cards can be all yours starting November in Best Buy Mobile and Verizon Wireless stores where they will retail for $99.99 and $129.99 for the microSDHC and M2 cards, respectively.

Samsung wants to apparently buy off flash memory makers Sandisk. Such a move would consolidate its share of the flash memory market. Samsung is currently the main chip supplier for Sandisk so a relationship is already there. According to Sandisk spokesmen:
Sandisk periodically has conversations with multiple parties, including Samsung, regarding a variety of potential business opportunities. We evaluate all of these opportunities, but maintain a policy of not commenting on market rumors or speculation.
So does this mean “yes, we are going to be bought out by Samsung but we don’t want to tell you guys” or what?
To further strengthen rumors it appears that J. P. Morgan has been hired as an adviser for the deal as Samsung would want to close the purchase within six months.

SanDisk, the leader in storage solutions, has announced a slew of memory cards for our cell phones on its new Mobile Ultra line. Covering all bases, SanDisk will be releasing microSD, microSDHC, Memory Stick Micro (M2) varieties in 2, 4, and 8GB versions. If you think what’s so different about this compared to the cards already available on the market from SanDisk and others, then you might want to consider the Mobile Ultra line’s accelerated transfer rates and fast side-loading speeds on cell phones. Now, how many times were you stuck without a memory card reader to transfer your favorite photos or video? Well, SanDisk has conveniently included a MobileMate Micro Reader just for those times, which can be plugged into any USB 2.0 port.
Here’s what Michael Romero, VP of SanDisk Mobile Retail Business, had to say:
SanDisk’s new Mobile Ultra line will make consumers’ digital lifestyle more manageable by offering them greater ability to quickly transfer photos, maps, music, videos, games and other large file size content wherever they go. These cards are truly the most convenient way for people to store, move and play content using their mobile phones, so we’re excited to introduce this high-performance, premium product to market to meet this need and growing demand.
The SanDisk Mobile Ultra range will be available in June retailing for $34.99 to $129.99 depending on the type and the storage capacity. Not much for that extra bit of space if you ask me.

After a successful stint with its 8GB microSDHC cards, SanDisk is looking to take it up another notch with its newly announced 12GB version, the highest ever for a cell phone as of now. Samples are being sent out as we speak to all major cell phone manufacturers for testing purposes.
The new 12GB card can hold up to 1500 songs, 3600 photos, and up to 24.5 hours of video. It adheres with the new SD 2.00 specification, a standard for any card with a capacity of above 4GB up to a maximum of 32GB. The 12GB card also meets the SD Speed Class 4 Rating.
Being a pioneer in flash storage cards, SanDisk has also taken up the initiative to educate people about mobile storage options with a “slot education” program called “Wake Up Your Phone.”
